10 best penetrating oils
Penetrating oils are a type of industrial lubricant commonly used for various maintenance and repair tasks. These oils are formulated to have low viscosity and high penetrating properties, allowing them to seep into tight spaces, crevices, and threads to loosen rust, corrosion, or stuck parts. They are typically used in the industrial, automotive, and construction sectors for a variety of applications, including:
Rust Removal: Penetrating oils are excellent for breaking down rust and corrosion on metal surfaces. They penetrate the rust, making it easier to remove with a wire brush or other mechanical means.
Lubrication: These oils can serve as temporary or long-term lubricants for moving parts, such as nuts, bolts, hinges, and chains. They reduce friction and wear, extending the lifespan of equipment.
Threaded Fasteners: Penetrating oils are commonly used to loosen stuck or rusted nuts and bolts. Applying the oil and allowing it to penetrate can make it easier to turn and remove these fasteners without damaging them.
Preventative Maintenance: Some penetrating oils also have rust-inhibiting properties, making them suitable for preventive maintenance. They can be applied to metal surfaces to protect them from future rust and corrosion.
Electrical Contacts: In some cases, these oils are used to improve electrical connections by displacing moisture and preventing oxidation on contact surfaces.
Automotive Applications: Penetrating oils are essential in the automotive industry for tasks like freeing up exhaust manifold bolts, removing brake caliper bolts, and breaking down corrosion on battery terminals.
Popular brands of penetrating oils include WD-40, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, and Kroil, each with its unique formula and intended use. When using penetrating oils, it's essential to follow safety precautions, including proper ventilation, wearing personal protective equipment, and handling them as recommended by the manufacturer.
In summary, penetrating oils are versatile industrial lubricants primarily used for loosening rust and corrosion, lubricating moving parts, and facilitating maintenance and repair tasks in various industries.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use it for the convertible top hinges instead of grease |
Answer: | No it's a penetrating oil |
Question: | How does kroil spray penetrating oil work on old bathtube faucet stems |
Answer: | Never tried it on that but Kroil is a penetrating oil that lubes and dissolves rust. Needs to be applied and allowed to work for several hrs. No guaranties but it has never failed to work for me. |
Question: | Can I use Kroil on a frozen water valve |
Answer: | This would not be wise as you cannot guarantee there will be no cross contamination ("penetrating oil"). If the valve is frozen it is best to replace it. Aero kroil is a great product but if you do use it be sure to flush the system well. Think about the answer by Larry, this creeps into places you won't believe. |
Question: | Kroil Vs PB Blaster |
Answer: | Kroil is better, IMO. I've used it on aircraft engines for over 30 years to free hardware that's been in place for who know how long. A friend used it to free up a frozen 1955 Studebaker engine. He had tried several other products (diesel fuel, PB Blaster, WD40, etc.) over the years on other cars and most didn't work without letting it sit for several days or weeks. He poured some Kroil into each spark plug hole in the Stude, and the next morning he could turn it over by hand. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this form a foam when sprayed on ??? J. Payne |
Answer: | No, it is more like the consistency of WD-40. It bubble a little when you first spray it (probably from the propellant) but it leaves more of a thin (penetrating) oil residue. |
Question: | Is it safe to use for breaking loose rusted stuck exhaust bolts? i know it is flammable but i figure i could clean it off after i get the bolts out |
Answer: | It's totally safe |
Question: | After it dries, does anyone knows if it will prevent rust |
Answer: | It does prevent rust. Been using liquid wrench for 40 years to prevent rust on my tools stored in my garage. After iI use a metal tool I spray it with Liquid Wrench. Never lost a tool due to rust. |
Question: | Can i use liquid wrench penetrating oil on a large pvc water shut off valve? it runs to a waterfall. it has been buried for years and won't budge |
Answer: | It should not hurt the pvc. If valve has been buried, I would first clear around it then clean it as best as possible. Take a hair dryer or heat gun(be very careful with heat gun) and warm, just warm valve, let cool and warm again. Apply liquid wrench let sit 10-20 mins. Use valve wrench to try and open valve, repeat id necessary. Heat done right(low) ought not cause any problems with liquid wrench which is a flammable. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it unstick pistons |
Answer: | Depends on what made it stick. If it is a mechanical problem like over heating are broken rings, NO.If it is old dirt build up then maybe. Carbon at the top of the cylinder probably. |
Question: | What is the difference between the Kroil penetrating oil and the lube???? I plan on using either for gun maintenance, which is better |
Answer: | Use both Kano and a premium gun lube. The Kroil should be used for rust removal and bore maintenance - its amazing how much stuff Kroil will remove from a "clean" bore. It is not an ideal operating lube, being too thin to persevere. It was designed as a cutting and penetrating oil. Really great stuff for lubing drill bits during cutting. Use premium lubes on action friction surfaces. Anything from Microlon, Break Free, or probably a dozen other manufacturers. |
Question: | I have a bolt that goes through a 5" collar. The bolt and the collar are fused together by rust. Will this product penetrate through the whole |
Answer: | That's pretty much a see what happens. To my knowledge this is the best penetrating oil available anywhere. Give it a try. I would give it about 5 to 10 applications, with a minute or two in between then give it a try. Give it time to work thru. Good luck. |
Question: | Would this product be safe and effective for removing rust from a blued firearm |
Answer: | It will not harm your blued finish. You would not believe how well this works, it is just amazing. I used it on firearms with a little bit of rust and cleans things right up with no issues. I also like to plug The end of the barrel filled with Kroil and let it sit overnight 24 hours. I do this after a thorough cleaning of my fire arm and barrel that looks like his perfectly clean. 24 hours after I've soaked the Kroil in the barrel you would not believe the amount of blacks soot/junk that came out after the soaking. Also I have used it on squeaky doors, the door on my Dodge Ram starting to squeak, one application no squeak whatsoever. I swear this stuff must be waterproof. Even going to use it on my shot on my truck when I replace my shocks to help loosen the bolts. You will definitely not be disappointed. Definitely buy it, but it, but it. |

Question: | Is this a case or is it a single |
Answer: | I prefer this to Kroil |
Question: | How does this compare to Kroil |
Answer: | Not sure what you are trying to do, but we use the Knocker loose for rusted and hard to remove fasteners from various types of material, if you are having an issue with a bolt or some sort of fastener that you are trying to remove this product works great for that aspect,,hope this helps |
Question: | does this work on cast iron |
Answer: | Its all opinion. But I am a 30 professional auto technician/shop owner and my opinion is KL or aerokroil is best. PB does great advertising. |
Question: | Why do so many more people seem to use and recommend pb blaster, compared to knock'er loose? is pb just hype or is kl actually better |
Answer: | I would say no but it is a nice bottle... Home depot sells a good spray bottle but 32oz i guess ur looking for 16? Amazon sells some empty ones for chemicals but ive never tried them. Good luck! |

Answer: | Yes it dissolves the rust, industrial strength Free All spreads deep into rusted or frozen parts, freeing them in seconds with ease! |
Question: | Anyone ever use it on bicycle chain |
Answer: | wear gloves with long cuffs & old clothing if you get it on your skin it makes a dark spot that last for 3 daysotherwise it's not a problem it is water washable |
Question: | As the title says "rust eater", what does this mean? Does it actually create a chemical reaction to dissolve rust? or is this just bs advertizing |
Answer: | As a Ablebody Seaman (Unlimited, Any Waters) and US NAVY VET. I've probably busted more rust than 99.9% of anyone hear. While working on the TW Nelson (Mobile oil's Survey Vessel) we helped develop this stuff. Also aboard Supertankers for several oil Company's we got to try several different Brands of rust converter/reformer.. We brushed it. rolled it. sprayed it ( w/ air gun pick-up) and they all worked better than all previous methods.. and there were a bunch!!! In my opinion Corroseal was the Best of all!! I still buy it in quart & gallon sizes (when required as it goes a long way) DO NOT LET ANY OF THESE FREEZE!!! WATER BASED & WILL TURN INTO A ROCK. Talk about wasted $$$? Don't waste time & money on Rattle Cans as caps k-rap-out way before product does! U want to spray a large area? use air-sprayer w/ large orifice, more thin coats better than 1 thick. let dry. Just Bust off any Scale & Leave the rust. wash down, let dry then get after it! Just give up on acid & paste & all that k-rap. (I took more accidental showers in Ospho than I care to remember, before the new stuff) Wan-kers Away. Old Salty |

User questions & answers
Question: | If I buy 20 units what the expiration date of the product |
Answer: | there is no expiration date on the product |
Question: | Is this better than regular Kroil |
Answer: | In My Opinion It Is Better |
Question: | This pertains to Lennox gas f/air furnace. Would kroil be beneficial on vent blower bearings -(no oiling ports |
Answer: | Keep in mind this is a penetrating oil designed to work on loosening stuck bolts and nuts. Hence you would need to set up a oiling routine. You may also want to try powdered graphite in suspension available at any auto parts store. |
Question: | what is the difference between aero kroil and sili kroil aerosoles? I want to loosen a hinge on a door knocker |
Answer: | The manufacturer likely is the best source of info. That said, aero kroil is a Kroil variant intended for the aircraft industry, so I expect that it is tweaked to work with aluminum as well as steel. Sili Kroil is much the same, but will leave a slight silicon lubricant film in the joint, perhaps useful in locks, closely fitted gun components and such. With a door hinge, I might just use the basic Kroil, and after things have loosened up, use a couple of drops of 10-30 motor oil. I just suspect that the heaver oil film will be more useful over time in the hinge. Your mileage may vary. |
