Answer: | PETG as a plastic is food safe, and this filament is only made using virgin starting materials. However, 3D printing in general is considered not to be food safe. The number one problem with 3D printed parts is that there are small cracks and spaces where bacteria can get lodged and flourish. Even if a print appears to be smooth and was printed with a high resolution, there will always be small cracks and gaps. There are also other factors such as typical stock brass nozzles contain lead. |

However, one of the biggest differences is the solvent used to dissolve HIPS. Limonene is used with HIPS instead of Acetone for ABS. Answer: | Yes, PETG sticks well to PEI sheets. Sometimes you almost need to do opposite adjustments than what you would normally do to get better first layer adhesion such as upping the print speed. You almost want worse first layer adhesion. |

Answer: | Hi Jack. PETG is not the same as Ninjaflex. Ninjaflex is flexible filament. The Ninjaflex filament is TPU, which is Thermoplastic Polyurethane. Gizmo Dorks also sells flexible TPU filament as well, which is very similar to Ninjaflex. However, for your question, PETG is completely different. PETG is a much more rigid filament compared to Ninjaflex. It is very similar to PET filament, but it is a lot easier to print. Please let us know if you have any other questions. |

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) 3D Printer Filament share many of the same printing characteristics and qualities as ABS. It has comparable strength and durability. The main difference is HIPS filament dissolves in D-limonene (acetone is used to dissolve ABS). Therefore, HIPS filament is commonly used as a supporting material especially in conjunction with ABS filament.
When printing using an FDM 3D printer, sometimes there are issues with objects with large overhangs or bridging. This is where printing with a dissolvable material such as HIPS filament really shines. Using a dual extruder printer with HIPS and ABS filament can produce complicated objects with the HIPS providing support for the ABS. Dissolving HIPS filament in a Limonene bath will leave behind just the ABS filament printed sections.

ABS plastic has always been a great thermoplastic to use in manufacturing and 3D printing for various reasons such as strength and durability. It's why so many commonly used products are made using ABS such as Legos. It has a high glass transition temperature to reduce deformation, but it is also low enough to be safely attainable with standard 3D printers. ABS is a hard strong plastic with increased flexibility when compared to PLA. It is also soluble in Acetone, and it can be easily sanded and machined. Being one of the most widely used filaments in 3D printing, ABS extrudes easily and smoothly with very little stringing or oozing. ABS does cool and shrink after extrusion, so it must be printed on a heated bed and preferably within an enclosed chamber.

The Gizmo Dorks Nylon filament is a strong durable material that is not as brittle as ABS or PLA. Nylons are classified in the family of polyamides, which is a polymer consisting of amides joined together by peptide bonds. For Fused Deposition Modeling, FDM, Nylon is a great material to use for 3D printers. The strength of the filament is remarkable, especially when using a higher fill setting. Nylon prints are generally very wear resistant, and they are incredibly flexible as well. Many users prefer Nylon when printing engineered parts such as gears. However, Nylon does have a considerable amount of warping when compared to ABS or PLA. Pyrolysis occurs around 350C.
Nylon prints will stick to blue painter's tape. Because Nylon adheres to cellulose surfaces poplar wood can be used as a bed. Nylon will also adhere to cardboard. Nylon also sticks extremely well to machinable garolite, but that may be hard to come by. Users have also said that using a glue stick on a glass bed works well. PVA glues (think of Elmer's white glue all) can also be diluted and applied on with a sponge head. Please use in a well ventilated area or in a closed ventilated system.

Answer: | Hi Ryan - Not sure which solvent is the ultra thin model cement glue. It may work. Do you have a brand name or somewhere we can see your glue? I believe most thin cement glues are used for polystyrene plastic. HIPS filament does fall under this category, but again I would like to see what cement glue you are using. |

Answer: | I used 100% D-Limonene Citrus Solvent Oil 1 Gallon (by Pro Supply Outlet) that I got on Amazon. It worked for me with an overnight soak and had no noticeable effects on the ABS. You do need to be careful what the container you put it in to soak is made of. A big Disney souvenir plastic glass was fine. A Solo cup, not so much. |
