I suspect you could change the straw out for Silicone. This was a compromise for us. Small enough for little kids and their school bags, mostly safe/clean, and not glass. As compromises go, its pretty good. I hope you find the illusive healthy water bottle! Goodness knows the marketplace needs more of them for kids!

Answer:	It's a silicone straw with no built out stop piece on it like the hard plastic reusable straws. There are flexible rubber teeth (instead of just a hole or flip top) in the straw area of the cup that slow down removal but don't prevent the straw from being removed all the way.

Sometimes the screw top can leak when they tip over . That's the only thing I watch for . Also a great size for a picnic in the kayak to refill smaller drink bottle I keep in front with me when on the lake . This product is light to carry , Dosent crack or break easily . And even at the beach when it breezy it is not so very big that I can't drink directly from the spout instead of using a sandy wind blown cup or water bottle of normal size . i have their small coolers also . I like them as they are light , they work well , and are wonderfully price and all their products are logically designed , no frills , easy to use and easy to clean and timeless . Answer:	I believe it is supposed to do both, but haven't used it for hot beverages. I have used it for cold and don't think it performs very well. My water does not stay very cold and I don't think the various different drinking tops work well either. I would pass on this
