Answer:	Definitely not steel, but not like a plastic straw you get at a restaurant either. It’s a pop up straw so it is meant to fold down/collapse within the lid. I would say it’s more of a thicker silicone type material. I got it for holding my smoothies, which are too thick to use the straw with anyway, but I can say this tumbler keeps my smoothies icey cold all day long!
