Answer:	This dehydrator only goes to 160 °F. USDA says poultry needs to be taken to 165 °F to kill the bacteria. From USDA"Why is it a food safety concern to dry meat without first heating it to 160 °F? The danger in dehydrating meat and poultry without cooking it to a safe temperature first is that the appliance will not heat the meat to 160 °F and poultry to 165 °F — temperatures at which bacteria are destroyed — before the dehydrating process. After drying, bacteria become much more heat resistant."

Answer:	It makes a nice background white noise that you could use to help you fall asleep. If you want to set it on the kitchen table between yourself and someone else you're trying to have a conversation with, it is too loud for that. I don't think it was your food dehydrator that drove you nuts. ;)

Answer:	No timer or power switch. Just a temperature control. To time it, you would need an external timer switch rated for at least 700 watts -- the power rating on the heater/blower unit. The timer will need a three-prong (grounded) outlet, as well. One listed on Amazon is the "Woods 50009 Indoor 7-Day Heavy Duty Digital Outlet Timer with 2-Outlets."
Question:	My heating element no longer works..can it be replaced
Answer:	Beware! I replaced the fuse and seemed to work fine but found out the thermostat no longer kept the temperature that it was set at. It never cooled down and was not able to be regulated any more. It started to melt my trays and made them mis-shapened before I caught what was happening. Question:	Are the demensions given the true demensions
Answer:	Both have positives, I find this one easier to use and to have less hangups. The Foodsaver cost so much more and when it breaks Foodsaver says buy another. MY first experience with the Nesco, it did not seal perfectly. I found that setting it to extended seal time makes for perfect seals every time. On performance I actually like this Nesco better, especially the price. Oh, I had just ordered the 11 inch rolls for my foodsaver just before it died. Those work just as well in the Nesco as did the roll that comes with the Nesco, but the one that comes with it is I believe 8 inches. The foodsaver is narrow and tall, this one is squat and wider. The Nesco actually fits better in my kitchen as I have it on an Island, so being squat there is better. I had one of the most expensive Foodsaver's and was quite disgusted with their attitude when it broke, plus it wasn't very old when the heater strip quit sealing.
Question:	Is the lid enameled on the underside? Really don’t like the aluminum top I have now
Answer:	According to my wife, you can probably seal a ziploc bag with the unit (although it's also possible that you'll create a melted mess), but you cannot use the unit to evacuate the air from the ziploc bag. Why would you want to do this anyway? Ziploc bags are already easy to seal and they cost more (I believe) than the bag rolls.

Answer:	To reiterate what davlaw said, the bag sealing lid on the Nesco VS-02 must be shut on both left and right sides in order for the vacuum sealer tube and attachment jars/lids to work. I have lots of vacuum canisters & tubes from other brands of sealers. I could not get them to seal until I read davlaw's answer - close the bag sealing lid. This Nesco VS-02 is quite good for the price. Nesco's dehydrators are also very good. I have the Nesco Professional model FD-75A.

Answer:	They are not enameled on the underside, but they are still aluminum.

Question:	can you adjust the temperature
Answer:	I have not found extra parts for this gun. They may be available but I don't know where. I need a new plunger top. As many other reviewers have also indicated, the plastic plunger will crack and make the gun unuseable. Otherwise, I found the gun pretty good. As far as loading multiple tubes at one time rather than just refilling as you go .... well .... come on now. 6 x the clean-up and no overall time savings. Unscrewing the cap and re-loading takes about 20 seconds. Even if you find more barrels they will probably cost nearly as much as the whole kit when you add shipping. At the current price with the coupon these guns are pretty cheap but even so I think I will pay the extra 8 bucks for the LEM model since I know the Lesco will crack and fail again. Not that I'm pushing other brands but you can get extra barrels for the LEM. Silly pricing but nevertheless available if you really want them.

Answer:	I didn't use the cure. I made my own - Thai style. But, the ingredients listed on the box are: salt, sugar, sodium nitrite (0.44%), Propylene glycol, and less than 2% silicon dioxide (anti-caking). Sounds like chemical to me.

Answer:	Hi William, The spice packs that come with the kit are all "original" flavor. I buy additional spice packs and mix them together to make a delicious flavored jerky my son and and his college room-mates love to eat. I usually make a 3 lb. batch at a time using 1 spice pack per pound. So, I make the boys a batch of 2-hot & spicy and 1-teriyaki and I'll make a less spicy batch for my wife and her friends when they go hiking of 2-teriyaki and 1-original. This gun kit works really good and is easy to clean too. I think I remembered writing a review for this item that would be posted by "skoot61". Have A Happy Easter!
