| Answer: | Interesting question. Some of this is likely obvious, but I'll mention anyway since I don't know what information you've already gathered. I'd love to provide a table, but not sure if that's possible short of creating a screenshot. The good news is that both provide excellent sound reproduction so it boils down to your personal preferences for their use.ATH-M50x (black, but WH for white and DG for dark green) vs ATH-SR5BT (BK is black; WH is white).M50x are Pro line because they're designed for studio settings where near flat response (as close to live audio sound) is required. While SR5BT are geared more to audiophile use which is why it includes a microphone (for answer phone calls) and bluetooth/NFC (for easier mobile connectivity) as well playback controls on the exterior of the ear cup. Also, the SR5BT sounds is not as flat as the base and highs seem slightly accentuated to me, but as a result it's a bit more forgiving of lackluster audio where you might need an amplifier with the M50x as the near flat response is closer to live and if the original lacked base it's not going to accentuate it, at least from my listening experience. M50x are over-ear (cup goes around your ear and sits on your skull) vs SR5BT on-ear (flat, but comfortable pads cover, but sit on your ears). I prefer over ear for extended use, though I can wear the SR5BT for about 3 hours comfortably (but that's my personal experience and bear in mind most over ear I can't stand for more than 15-30 min if at all). I have a big head and large ears, but the SR5BT pads seem to mold to my head providing better fit and less noise leakage which is why I think I can wear them longer. Most on-ear pinch too hard and make my ears hurt, but the SR5BT pressure is gentle, but firm so it doesn't feel like I'm wearing a vice :-) Just a matter of preference. For extended use I prefer the R70x, but that's because they're both over-ear and open-back. The models you asked about are both closed-back which means they block out ambient sound (ideal for isolating oneself with whatever you're listening to). I prefer closed for short sessions (say up to 3 hours or when I want to block out those around me), but the open for long sessions or in situations where I need to hear if someone walks up, etc. Again, open and closed back are preferences, but noting for reference.M50x has no microphone, but SR5BT does. So if you want to use with your phone or computer that's a plus and those at the other end of my phone calls say the sound is very clear and crisp. Also the range on the Bluetooth is excellent (AT says about 33 feet, but I've gotten just over 40 with line of sight) and the battery life is phenomenal with a reasonable 4-hour recharge to go from 0-100% (though you can use while charging).M50x 15-28000 vs SR5BT 5-40,000 frequency range, but two notes there. First, many will argue most humans can only hear 20-20,000 so anything outside that range is a waste, while others counter argue you can still feel the lows and highs, such as the rumble of base, even if you can't distinctly hear the sound. I believe there's truth to both, but I find it varies by person the same way some can tell a storm is coming because of the change in barometric pressure. If you demand the full range, then you'll want the SR5BT. But there's a catch, which is my second note. The SR5BT 5-40,000 is only while wired! The range is 20-20,000 (note same as human ear) while using Bluetooth. Both are closed-back so you hear no ambient noise (if you like open I highly recommend the ATH-R70X). Both have 45mm drivers & 2-year manufacturer warranty.As noted at the start, you won't go wrong with either in terms of good sound, so it boils down to use and preference. If you're using them professionally to mix audio, then you're probably going to want the M50x as you'll hear about as close to recorded quality of the sound (without amplification and modification) as possible which is very handy for identifying artifacts, cleaning the audio, etc, etc. If you're an audiophile who just wants clean, dynamic sound, then you'd probably prefer the SR5BT since it's not as flat so there's a bit more bass and treble that allows it to be more forgiving of poorly recorded audio (though it's not going to fix a bad recording) and is usually preferred by most persons. If you can't stand on-ear, then the M50x over-ear is better. If you need mobility and wired will be a challenge, the SR5BT wireless is great and it's good for consumer use of phones, computer meeting software, and other items which also require a microphone.Sorry for the lengthy response, but wasn't 100% sure which aspects you were comparing.
