Question: | Has anyone else had the red "mercury" separate into little sections across the thermometer? I've had mine less than a year, and that has happened |
Answer: | This is a common occurrence especially when mounted horizontally. You can fix it by running it under warm water until the column moves all the way to the top. Then slowly reduce the temperature until it starts back down. If you do it slow enough it will not separate. If it does, just try it again. Be sure to keep the column vertical with the bulb down while correcting the problem. Good luck. |
Question: | Can this thermometer be hooked over a shelf or wire rack |
Answer: | In my freezer it had wire racks and I hooked the thermometer over the wire rack and it worked fine. The thermometer has two hooks which also have suction cups on each, on my glass shelves in my refrigerator I just pressed the suction cups to the glass and it worked fine. I purchased two, one for the freezer and one for the refrigerator and they have worked great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the typical battery life for this thermometer |
Answer: | Have not had item long enough to determine. |
Question: | made in usa |
Answer: | Don't know if it was made in the USA but it is an excellent product! |
Question: | What temperature the refrigerator should be? also what temperature freezer should be? bought couple of them. appreciate answer |
Answer: | That's an easy question to answer via Internet search. Refrigerator should be 40 or lower (ideally 38) and freezer should be 0 or lower. However, freezer temps just above 0 are not a problem. Refrigerator temps above 40 ARE a problem. |
Question: | How long are you suppose to keep this in one place to measure the temperature? As thus far mine is not accurate. Thanks |
Answer: | I would guess, it being made of metal, that it would not be long. maybe 5 minutes, tops. my units read 2 degrees F less than the more accurate digital clocks. How much variance are you getting? |
Question: | Can it be calibrated? How do you calibrate it to 32 F |
Answer: | The way to calibrate a thermometer like this is to take a bowl of ice water, stir it up, and the water will reach exactly 32 degrees F if there is still a lot of ice in the water. Next, put the thermometer in the ice water and check the reading. If it reads 32 it is right on. If it is high or low, you can take that into account. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what does the LL mean on thermometer reading |
Answer: | Although I haven't experienced an LL reading, according to what I've read...regular alkali batteries will operate to about 25 degrees F. Below this they get too cold to generate enough power to give a temp reading. Lithium batteries will operate to about -4 degrees F. If the temperature is colder than this, the display will show LL.L until the temperature rise above -4. So it sounds like maybe the temp is too cold for the batteries of the digital thermometer to work properly. Don't know if that helps any. |
Question: | Is this really 4" x4" x6" large |
Answer: | NO - it is 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide and maybe 1/2 inch thick. I really like it. Easy to read in the back of the fridge. |
Question: | i cannot get the battery cover off any suggestions |
Answer: | There's a pinhole on one end of the unit. Unfold a paper clip, and press it into that hole, while at the same time pulling on the battery drawer to slide it out of the bottom of the unit. It may take some playing around with the paper clip to press the right spot, which should feel a bit springy. You might have to keep going in and out because the paper clip will keep sliding past the "target" and too far in, but eventually you will hit the right spot. A paper clip is better than a pin to press inside of the hole, and a fingernail should be fine to pull out the battery drawer. |
