User questions & answers
Question: | Where can I get a replacement holder/sleeve for this thermometer |
Answer: | My suggestion would be to try contacting the manufacturer directly. Their website is www.cdn-timeandtemp.com Good luck! |
Question: | can it be used for turkeys and roasts |
Answer: | I've used it on whole chickens, turkeys and on tri tip roasts with perfect results |
Question: | What does LL.L reading mean |
Answer: | I'm considering purchasing a digital probe type thermometer myself and I don't see it specifically stated on this unit, but on a lot of others I researched the LLL/HHH was to let you know your temperatures were too low or too high to register, depending on that particular thermometer's temperature parameters. This one is good for: -40 to +450°F/-40 to +230°C. So anything below that temp, you'd get the LLL warning, above it, you'd get the HHH warning. I know you asked 6 years ago, but if I can't help you, maybe I can help the next one with that question!🤷🏼♀️ Have a happy ☺!! |
Question: | Can you recalibrate this thermometer |
Answer: | I don't know how to answer your question specifically, however, these instructions for recalibrating give some indicators regarding temperatures.1. Place the stem into at least 1 inch of crushed-ice with water. Do not let the stem touch the bottom of container.2. Press the CAL button for 2 seconds. CAL appears on the display for 2 seconds, then 32.0°F appears. And this thermometer has a built in fail safe for recalibration. If the ice/water mixture isn't within the range of 30deg F to 34 deg F you will see an error message on the screen (ERR). Wait a bit longer for the mixture to come down in temp and try again. So you pretty much are in the zone with the recal on this one. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what does the "hold" button do |
Answer: | Holds the temperature so it can be read outside the oven or grill, when it's too hot or the display has to look the opposite way |
Question: | Can you calibrate this thermometer |
Answer: | No. You cannot calibrate this thermometer. |
Question: | Can this be calibrated |
Answer: | In order to calibrate such a probe, the manufacturers would have to add a calibration potentiometer to the circuit. Without opening up mine I doubt it was made for field calibration. You can test the accuracy of the device by filling a 8 oz glass with ice and water. Allow to set for 3 to 5 minutes and insert the probe. That water ice mixture should be 32 deg F. what your device shows should be considered where 32 is. That means if your device shows 29 you are off by -3 deg. this should not be a big deal a plus or minus 2 degs. Also, as the battery degrades, it will affect accuracy. Test your probe once a month and replace battery based on any drifting away from what you started out. I have used these types of probes for many years in hvac and they fail long before I lose accuracy. |
Question: | What is the difference between this model and the CDN DTQ450X ProAccurate Quick-Read Thermometer |
Answer: | Not sure I can answer your Question but this little thermometer is sturdy, accurate and I use it all the time. I've had it a couple of years and it's working great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | In fine print at the bottom of a product sheet on DDN website, it states "Made In China". But it works well, is easy to read, and there are so many things we use manufactured in China that I don't have a huge problem with it. |
Question: | Can you leave in Oven while food is cooking |
Answer: | Yes, it has sort of a hook from which you can hang it on a rack. |
Question: | Can you wash this |
Answer: | You cannot soak in water. You have to wipe clean with soap and water or clean heavily soiled thermometer with baking soda and water. |
Question: | The pictures show 2 different types of product. Which one is it? There is another $10 model. What's the difference them |
Answer: | I bought this thermometer in May 2020 and paid $13.99 and my order shows the one pictured without the red line. The one I received was the one with the red line under the temperature scale. This appears to be the one in the picture in the oven and matches the $10 model. It seems in retrospect that I got cheated but I never checked after ordering so my fault for not paying attention. The thermometer works well but I would pay close attention if you order to make sure you get the correct model. |

Perfect for roasting or grilling. Choose the type of meat or poultry and the doneness desired. The unit has been pre-programmed with 6 meat/poultry choices and various doneness temperatures. The pre-programmed temperatures are based on USDA safe cooking temperatures. The TASTE mode will not allow the user to undercook when it is not safe to do so. Both the taste chosen and the temperature will be displayed during cooking. Simply insert the probe into the food. Place the food in the oven or barbecue and close the oven door (or grill cover) directly over the probe cable. Alert Mode: This feature allows the user to set a desired cooking temperature. This is perfect when the user prefers a different temperature than has been pre-programmed. For candy or deep frying, attach the stainless steel clip to the saucepan edge and insert the probe into the mixture. Set the desired internal food temperature using the ALERT mode, then wait for the alarm to indicate when the cooking is done. It’s that easy. Complete instructions with candy and oil temperature guides are included. The control module can sit on a counter top or the magnet can attach to a convenient surface. DO NOT attach to a hot barbecue. The plastic case will melt. In MEAT mode, the cooking temperature is continuously displayed along with the set temperature, type of meat and taste preference. When using the TIMER mode, the time counting up or down is shown at the top of the module. It counts down or up by minutes. The timer alarms for 60 seconds when the set time is reached. Note: Remove sticker from display before use.
If you've ever opened the oven door to check on a roast only to watch the heat escape while an "instant read" thermometer measures temperature, you'll appreciate this impressively-accurate, remote cable thermometer. Simply insert its high-heat stainless steel probe into meat, shut the oven door, and monitor internal food temperature on a large, easy-to-read digital display. You can even program an alarm to sound when food has reached a desired temperature. Predetermined settings are also available. This capability is especially useful for smoking, barbecuing, or any "low and slow" technique--eliminating the need to check on food and allow precious smoke to escape.
Unlike other remote probe thermometers, heat resistance makes this versatile tool ideal for candy making or deep fat frying. A special clip secures the probe to your saucepan. Plus, since the Proaccurate withstands temperatures up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit, you won't melt through several probes in the course of a year's cooking.
A magnetic back and folding stand let you store the thermometer on a counter or stove. A handy 24-hour count-up, count-down timer also functions solo to aid any cooking task. This commercial-quality thermometer is calibrated to the National Sanitation Foundation standards--the highest standards achievable. It runs on a single AAA battery, included with purchase. --Mary Park

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this probe be used in a deep fish fryer oil heats to |
Answer: | Yes, The manual has mentions using it for deep frying up to 400 degrees |
Question: | Can it measure inside temperature of the grill and how do I do that |
Answer: | It is a meat thermometer, not intended to measure air temperature inside a grill. |
Question: | Can it be used with a slow cooker? Through the glass or not |
Answer: | Sure can. Place the probe in the middle of the thickest portion of meat ( or whatever you cook) and make sure to leave the wire out of the liquid. Place the lid to the slow cooker on and enjoy. |
Question: | How long is the probe |
Answer: | The long portion of the L shaped probe is roughly 6" - 7" long as I recall. I found IKEA sells a simpler (more durable) unit for way less that has worked very well for me http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80100406/ |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used in a Microwave oven |
Answer: | Definitely not. The probe predominantly steel. Google "metal in microwave" to see videos of what might happen |
Question: | Just got it and cant get the probe out of its holder on the side !! No amount of pulling will work . Am I missing something |
Answer: | Ours was stiff too, but I got it out eventually. The probe is just a sharp rod that is jammed into that holder on the bottom right. My advice: pull the probe, twisting as you do, with the holder secured in your other hand. |
Question: | Is there a clip for keeping it in the pot |
Answer: | I don't have this unit (but am considering buying it if I can get over all the negative reviews) - no clip, but you should be able to rig one up out of a binder clip if needed - for example http://www.finecooking.com/item/50934/how-to-attach-a-thermometer-to-a-pot |
Question: | Can you use this to monitor just your oven temperature |
Answer: | I've never tried that. The meat probe would be exposed to the same temperature as the oven. It looks much less substantial and I would fear damage to it. |

CDN's IRXL220 ProAccurate large dial Insta-Read, NSF Certified cooking thermometer is perfect for professional results with meats, poultry, yeasts, dough and chocolate tempering. Use this thermometer for foods cooked in conventional or microwave ovens, smoke ovens, rotisserie or on the grill. This Insta-Read thermometer is a precision instrument, yet is rugged and durable. Use it for quick, accurate readings during stovetop cooking — or after food has been removed from conventional or microwave ovens. The slender stainless steel stem penetrates meat easily, and minimizes the loss of juices. Important: Do not leave in hot oven. Tip: Meat should be allowed to “rest” for 10 to 15 minutes after it is removed from oven. This allows time for the meat’s internal temperature to stabilize and the juices to redistribute. This will result in a roast that is both juicier and easier to carve. Question: | can i just put this in my turkey without doing anything else? never did calibrations and don't understand. can i just put in bird before i cook it |
Answer: | I can't answer you on that question for you, I don't think you can leave in Turkey. It didn't come with instruction for calibrations. The way I judge if turkey is done is the ready pop up turkey comes with and also if the leg comes off the bird without trouble pulling. If you keep poking turkey the turkey comes out dry when done. |
Question: | can this thermometer be left in an oven during the cooking of a roast |
Answer: | No - Found this out too late. I was under the impression that this was a conventional type of oven thermometer that you insert and leave in the roast while it is cooking. It melted! |
Question: | What tools are required to recalibrate the thermometer? (hex wrench, pliers, screwdriver |
Answer: | Hi, there is a hex nut that holds the stem to the dial. I measured it, and it is 11mm. That is an unusual metric size. An adjustable wrench would work perfectly. The nut isn't very tight, so pliers would work OK.You would of course need an accurate thermometer to set it to.Boiling water is OK if you live close to sea level. At 3000 ft altitude, water boils at 206 degrees F.At Denver (mile high), water boils at 202 degrees. My thermometer did not come with a wrench. That would be a good idea.Mine was set close enough for cooking, maybe not for lab work. |
