Answer:	I you step on the lever, it will crush the can. You don't need to jump on it but you also can't do it with your hand. Be sure to have the sharp pointy thing screwed out enough to puncture the bottom of the can and have the can closed end up.

Answer:	Yes, that's what I use it on. I took the front bolt out for the small cans so it would crush them all the way. Just make sure your footing is stable if you do that and then crush it with your foot.

Answer:	This can crusher is capable of crushing most standard 15oz cans. Vegetable cans and others similar is size and shape both steel and tin. There maybe a couple of odd sized cans that it won't work well with, but for the most part, One can size it didn't work well with is the Dinty Moore Beef Stew 20oz can due to it's irregular shape and construction. So, as for the standard 12 to 15oz dog food can, it should work.
