Question:	How well does this slice cold butter out of the refrigerator? I am sick of my current butter knife not being able to cut through cold butter
Answer:	I bought three different spreaders at the same time. This is my least favorite. It will slice the cold butter but the butter will stick to the blade as you pass through it and with the wide width of the blade you'll end up peeling everything off the spreader.

Answer:	It is long enough to reach the bottom of the pb but not for the 30 ounce mayo jar. I love mine because it is wide.

Answer:	It says "German-made" in the description... The only thing I'm pretty sure is from China is the knife block, but not the knives themselves.

Answer:	The big difference is the model. This one doesn't have the full tang that tapers from the handle to the blade. The blade is a stamped one running all the way through the handle but not as thick at that point. I have both and for what I have used it for, I think I prefer the Gourmet version as it has a little more flex in the blade for spreading than the higher priced one. It was a little transition for me from the butter knives we traditionally use but I have come to really like it as a universal sandwich knife that can slice, spread, and do all. I have even used it to turn an egg when making an egg sandwich since it is a little wider. Needless to say, I really like it and have thought about getting another one or two to add to the collection.

Including the handle, he total length is 9" The blade itself is just shy of the 5" (as is stated in the description). The width of the blade at its widest point is not quite 1.5" and the handle (approx. 4.25" long). is the equivalent size/shape as other knives in the series.. This knife is actually one of my favorite tools - it makes spreading butter, mustard, peanut butter, mayo, whatever you need really easy and smooth, while enabling you to either spread a very thin layer or more. The serrated edge is adequate for cutting the sandwich, although I usually prefer another knife for that. This version - the "Gourmet" class - is lighter, more flexible, and less expensive than the "Classic" model (I have both), but I actually prefer the Gourmet... I like this tool so much I've bought several to give as gifts to friends...

Answer:	It is some sort of semi-hard plastic. Is comfortable in the hand. Same material Dexter uses in its knives. Cleans up very well with some and water, in a dishwasher. I bought the product as I worked in an institution, that had same Dexter tools which were cleaned in high-temp sanitizer. Always looked clean and new.

Answer:	The blade is as thick as a regular knife and the serrations are very sharp. I love my set for spreading and cutting! The wood handles do not do well in the dishwasher though.

Answer:	I can't remember. I ended up donating them because they were larger than I needed for my purposes.

Answer:	I'm sorry I don't know, but if it helps, ours seem high quality. No rusting only shiny. I've put them on the dishwasher a lot and the wood has lost some of its' oils. So handwashing now and will replenish wood handle w coconut oil.

Answer:	I have had the sandwich spreader for several years. Since it has a wooden handle, I have never washed it in the dishwasher. Non-wooden handles are usually dishwasher safe, wooden not so much. .

Answer:	Natural wood can and will dry out with age and washing. Try food grade linseed oil. A light coat every now and then will keep your knife looking and working well for a long time.
