Question:	What is the board part made of? And how sturdy is the whole thing? How well does it hold up
Answer:	The board is hard plastic. Well I like it. To me its sturdy enough. I like it how it has a measurement on it & I've cut meat's, cheese's & fruit's on it with no problem. The blade is REALLY sharp.
Question:	How thin can you cut softer cheeses
Answer:	Actually it doesn't cut the hard cheese right either. The blade is so fat that it pushes the slice way out from the block as it slices and it crumbles, breaking apart. I bought it for cheddar and had to return it. See my video below.
Question:	How big of a block of cheese can you cut? 3x3, 4x4? 5x5? How long is the blade
Answer:	I bought this for my elderly father. He has trouble holding knives. He buys these huge blocks 5x5 sharpe cheddar cheese and it works great for him. He can control the thickness of slices easily. It is extremely sharpe though so be careful while cleaning. I sliced my finger while washing the blade. It is still the best cheese slicer we’ve ever had. No wires to break and replace.

Answer:	Germany. I've had one for at least 15 years; except for the paint chipping off (which won't happen with this one) it is still in excellent shape.
Question:	Will this slice baby red potatoes with the skin on
Answer:	Yes, you can slice egg in both directions to get a "chopped" egg rather than just sliced. Easy to clean, practical, and worth the money compared to other plastic egg slicers.
Question:	Is it wide enough to cut spam
Answer:	I did not try it with mushrooms or strawberries. I did try slicing pitted black olives and it did not work - just mashed them. The rest of the story is that the wire broke after only a few uses - on EGGS!!

Answer:	Mine also came off. Doesn’t seem like it was glued or attached. It can still be used. Position that piece in the right place and it still works.

Question:	how thick and thin does it slice
Answer:	Not sure how thin, maybe 1/4", max thickness about 3/4". Careful with the sliding tray your using to slice as it does not pull back very far in order to touch the blade...
Question:	Is this german product made in germany or china? there's conflicting information in the customer reviews
Answer:	The instructions are in German & English. The box has the German Logo/information on it, like were it comes from. Somebody along the way put a small red sticker "Made in China" on it.
Question:	What is the diameter of the blade
Answer:	I would say around 5 or 6 inches in diameter. That being said, I would not recommend buying this slicer. It is very poorly made, the suction cups will not hold the slicer on the kitchen counter, made of light weight plastic, almost impossible to get a uniform cut in whatever you are slicing. I bought this and almost immediately a part cracked while slicing something. My opinion is that it is a waste of money.
Question:	How wide a loaf can it slice? I make artisan loaves at home that can be up to 8" in diameter
Answer:	You'd be hard pressed to slice bread max. 3/4" wide. The blade is sightly over 6" dia.. The slide area is a little deceiving. Of course slicing bread is not why I purchased my unit....I make chicken, beef, and fish jerky for our dog!...Works perfect!, easy to clean, and I save a boat load over purchasing these kinds of products in the stores....Hope this helps....

Question:	Is the wire replaceable
Answer:	Mine did not come with wires. And it broke after about 6 months, but my lovely spouse was cutting a large chunk of fairly hard cheese and tried to rush it, and did not cut it properly. If you have a large (the chunk in question was about 3 inches), you don't just pull it through. Pull it down on the left, then the right (or right then left and then center. Work the slicer through it like that until you come out the bottom. Or be prepared to go very slowly. The is no cheese slicer made on which the wire will not break if you push it to hard.
Question:	How wide is this slicer
Answer:	The Westmark HD cheese slicer is 4" in total width. the exact width of the cutting wire is 3 1/2", and to complete the sizes it is 5" in length. In my own opinion, this Westmark German made HD cheese slicer is the highest quality food slicer offered in the kitchen utensil retail market! I'm a MInnesota native and I enjoy eating cheese almost on a daily basis, as a snack with Wheat Thins, etc, I melt a slice of white goat cheese on my morning breakfast sandwich of a poached egg on a toasted everything bagel and a slice of tomatoe. I have only owned the Westmark slicer for a few months, but even when I slice a 2lb thick block of cheese for a home made whole wheat pizza, it handles each and every slicing demand, the wire is super strong, and appears to be life time kitchen gadget, I would buy another Westmark slicer for myself as a replacement or even as a gift to friend.
Question:	Is it dishwasher safe
Answer:	You should never wash a wire cheese slicer in the dishwasher, like never ever. You shouldn't wash aluminum in the dishwasher either, no matter what the instructions say. It oxidizes. And this is an aluminum & stainless steel wire cheese slicer.....so no, it's not dishwasher safe. It states in the description to wash it "Simply with soap & water" meaning hand wash only.
Question:	Can any one review one that is a couple yrs. old
Answer:	I have had about 5 of these cheese slicers over the years. I think the average life is about 6-7 years. They might last longer but things happen. They don't work well on playdoh, although it lasted about 2 years. One I had for about 5 years I gave to my new daughter in law who was visiting during Christmas and commented about on the ease of use - she's been using it for about a year. I broke the wire on one - I'd only had it for 2 or 3 years. I was trying to cut a solid cheese brick of Irish cheese. My husband told me the cheese was too hard, but noooo... I'd had my slicer experience going good for years - I just knew it would work. Or Not. Even using a knive was hard to cut the cheese. I was so dedicated to this slicer that I ordered it from England and Germany when I needed one - and I've given the many slicers as gifts. They are greatly appreciated and seem to last well at cutting Tillamook Cheese, a hard cheddar cheese. I'm very glad that they are now sold in the US. The name on the one I bought through Amazon was the same as the ones I bought through European sources so I'm assuming they will give many long years of cutting hard cheeses, and soft ones, too. I guess I should say that toward the end of their life, the wire does get a little sloppy, so depending on your use you will know when it's getting old.
