But technically you can do oil paintings on anything, as long as the surface is properly sealed, otherwise the oil will rot the fabric. Ashcan painter John Sloan (b. 1871) once did a very fine self portrait on a window shade. You will need to apply a layer of glue size (either rabbit-skin glue or pva size). A subsequent layer of oil based primer is recommended but not strictly required. |
