Plastic will oxidize over time. If the color of the plastic has started to change or the surface has become rough then they're probably not safe to store water, the star san will sanitize it, but the plastics will leach into the water. |

You may just need to increase your frequency of cleaning with warm soapy water and make sure to brush all inside surfaces. Algae can grow relatively quickly given the right environment.
