Answer:	They are slightly hollowed out with a little bit of a ridge on the edge. We find them to be well balanced and comfortable spoons to eat and serve with although the eating end seems huge when you first look at them out of the box. They are awesome soup spoons.

Answer:	I haven't used mine for this purpose, but I think that they would stand up easily with food. They stand up on their own without food. The bottom of the spoon is flat. With food in the spoon, I think they would be even more stable. The handle is angled slightly upward, but maybe slightly less than some other appetizer spoons I've seen. just fyi- The spoon shape is large, and a bit awkward to eat soup with. It would hold a good portion for an appetizer. They are a nice and sturdy set for the price.
