Answer:	I wouldn't strain hot oil! It's nylon. It's also pretty fine weave, so it wants squeezing, I think it would be too messy and disappointing for used fryer oil.

And splatters do become history but as i stated in my review, it scratches easily down at the bottom or near the bottom where the bottom surface curves up to the vertical sides - we were using them to eat out of, ie like soup bowls after cooking. The shape of this bowl is perfect, just wish it was a better grade plastic.
