I think we just wash the upper part in soapy water then rinse and drain dry, the bottom we clean without immersion. It may have openings that will allow water to seep in and turn nasty. I've used it to dispense beer, juice, bloody Marys and whiskey punch. |

| Answer: | We have used Oggi carafes for home and travel for many years, because it keeps a quart of coffee hot for 10 or more hours better than any other thermos we have tried. Since it is tall it can tip over when driving if not supported by some means. And if turned over on its side sometimes it will dribble a very small amount of liquid (teaspoon?) for a second or two, most times it will not leak anything at all. While this carafe is obviously designed for indoor use we use it in and outside because it WORKS at keeping liquid hot better than others.And it is possible to break the glass liner if you drop it but even when dropped the liner usually does not break.An all-steel or plastic thermos obviously would be almost unbreakable, but none we have tried keep liquid hot for more than a couple of hours-- the Oggi keep stuff hot all day long. HINT: It works best if one fills the Oggi with very hot water and let it preheat for 15-25 minutes while your coffee is brewing and then decant into the thermos. For only $10 this carafe is a great value -- and nothing I have tried will beat it for keeping my coffee hot all day. |
