User questions & answers

Question: Country of origin
Answer: the box says 'Made in China, Blade manufctured in Japan'.
Question: Where is the knife made in? Is only parts of it made in Japan? Thanks
Answer: I really don't know where it is actually made. The address to where I sent my knife for repair (they replaced it with a brand new one) is in Costa Mesa, California, USA. The name of the company is Kyocera Tycom Corporation and it appears they have offices globally. All I know is that the knife is very WELL made, and if I were to guess, I would guess it is made here in the good old US of A.
Question: If these are dropped on a tile floor, will they chip or crack? Seems these knives need alot of care
Answer: Yes they’ll break and chip if you drop it. I’ve done both but bought more because they’re such good knives especially for vegetables.
Question: What is difference between white and black blade
Answer: According to Kyocera's website:What is the difference between a black-HIP blade and a white blade?A black (HIP) blade is made out of a black zirconium oxide and offers extra durability. This type of blade goes through an extra firing process called a "hot-isostatic press," creating a tighter weave between the ceramic molecules, thus creating a tougher blade. The white ceramic blade is also made out of zirconium oxide but does not go through this expensive sintering process.

User questions & answers

Question: This 'chef's knife' looks identical to their Santoku knife... is it actually the exact same shape, or, might someone post how they really look
Answer: I don't used them on any frozen food. I have used the ceramic knives to cut cheese, but steel knives seem to do that job better.
Question: can you wash them in a dishwasher
Answer: no chips. only problem i had is when a house guest tried to cut a frozen corn cob and a piece of the knife broke off. I myself broke a piece off one by cutting into a chicken thigh bone. They aren't flexible blades, so slicing is their specialty.
Question: Instructions say "Use traditional knives for cutting frozen food and cheese." Do they mean frozen cheese too or just regular soft cheese? Not clear
Answer: Sharpen against a diamond stone.
Question: Chips in ceramic blades
Answer: Yes they are! Had them for a few months, and use them almost daily with a dishwasher cleaning afterwards. They are a great quality and are also pretty to look at! :)

KYOCERA CERAMIC KNIVES AND KITCHEN TOOL SETS

These KYOCERA ceramic knife sets offer a great introduction to using Kyocera in the kitchen at a value. Once you experience the lightweight, ultra-sharp cutting edge during peeling fruits or slicing vegetables or boneless meats, you’ll find meal preparation fun and easy. These sets make a perfect gift for the new couple, home cook, professional chef, or cooking enthusiast.

Unrelenting Sharpness

Like diamonds and sapphires, the elements of ceramic are formed in nature through thousands of years of crystallization, extreme temperatures, and literally tons of pressure. The result is a pure, dense, unrelenting material that is 50% harder than steel and close to diamond in hardness. Kyocera advanced ceramic blades offer superior edge retention, holding their edge longer than traditional kitchen knives, including high carbon steel.

Unparalleled Purity

In addition to wear resistance, Kyocera advanced ceramic knives are chemically inert so foods look and taste the way they should. The smooth, polished surface resists germs and is impervious to acids, oils, and salts so cleaning up is easy to do, simply wash and let dry. Because they are ceramic, Kyocera knives and kitchen tools won’t brown foods, won’t transfer a metallic taste or smell, and will never rust.

Ultra Lightweight

Half the weight of traditional knives and kitchen tools, these products provide a new experience in cutting fruits and vegetables. Perfectly balanced and lightweight, Kyocera ceramic knives reduce fatigue during repetitive cutting tasks and make meal preparation easy and fun.

Question: Can these be sharpened with a regular knife sharpener
Answer: Don't know but the strings are very good and sound nice.
Question: How do you sharpen the Kyocera knives
Answer: Yes they can. Ive done it with no issues
Question: Is the 4.5" pictured in the middle of the pack of 3, a micro serrated blade
Answer: Yes; they are the same as those. Fortunately they are not the blue steel type which are notably inferior. Never use those as a substitute for these or you will be gravely disappointed if you truly shred.

User questions & answers

Question: The info says this is a 5" knife. Is this the size of the blade or the entire knife
Answer: I am not sure about the place of origin - but mine are incredibly sharp and I have not sharpened to date. I use nearly daily and have had them for 2-3 years.
Question: How do you sharpen this knife
Answer: No, it doesn't come with a sheath, but you can probably pick one up at Walmart or Lowes even if you have to buy a inexpensive tool of some sort. The tip of the knife is not sharp (that is my only disappointment with the knife.) With the tip not being sharp you can get by for awhile without a sheath. Overall it's pretty cool at a good price.
Question: Where can I get a cover for this knife
Answer: The tip is not sharp, rather rounded - I believe all ceramic knife is designed that way. It may not get into chicken joint.
Question: Is this knife cerrated enough to cut crusty bread loaves
Answer: Japan
