User questions & answers

Question: or 6 inch knife? Which one is more universal
Answer: I own both. The 6” at One at home and the 5” at a vacation home. The 5” is slightly easier to control. But the 6” gives more versatility for large cuts such as beef roasts large fowl, etc. If I had to buy one, I’d go for the 6”. I hope this helps.

Wusthof Gourmet 5-Inch Boning Knife

Wüsthof

Based on 51 reviews Check latest price

Product description

For boning raw meats and poultry, this sharp boning knife from Wüsthof's moderately priced Gourmet line performs with perfection. Made in Solingen, Germany, home of Wüsthof since 1814, Gourmet blades are precision-cut by laser from sheets of high-carbon, stain-resistant steel, resulting in a slightly thinner profile and lighter weight than the company's revered forged steel blades. There is no bolster, but there is a full-tang. As with the more expensive Wüsthof Classic knives, Gourmet handles are made of a triple-riveted, black composite shaped to fit the hand comfortably.

The shorter of two boning knives, this one features a narrow, five-inch blade formed in the traditional S-curve with a very sharp tip. The blade on this particular model is on the stiff side, which makes it better for boning beef; Wüsthof's more flexible model excels at poultry. An excellent gift for any home chef, the knife is covered by a lifetime warranty and is dishwasher-safe, though Wüsthof recommends washing and drying its cutlery by hand. --Ann Bieri

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a grand prix 2 handle like in the description, or is it a traditional handle like in the picture? Thanks
Answer: Yes, that's my question as well. There's no confusing the Classic line handle (3 rivets) with the Grand Prix II (1 rivet). The main description and part numbers indicate a Grand Prix II standard boning knife, while the photos AND the "item model number" in the product information indicate a Classic curved boning knife. This is a very conflicting listing.
Question: Which knife is this? description indicates a grand prix ii standard boning knife, but the photos show a classic curved boning knife
Answer: I got exactly as pictured. Classic curved
Question: Is this a cheaper version of the classic forged
Answer: Not sure that price is s good comparison. Great boning knife.
Question: Does this knife come with a cover for storage
Answer: No, you will need to buy one if you want a cover.
Question: paring knife
Answer: Wusthof only makes a 5 inch Classic ikon Boning Knife
Question: what's the bevel and can a lefty use it
Answer: Wusthof's newer precision calls for a 14 degree angle per side on Classic Ikon knives for a total of 28 degrees. The boning knives are great for lefties or righties.
Question: Does the knife come with a sheath
Answer: Just a little tiny plastic tip. I keep it in its original box with the plastic thing on it.
Question: How flexible is the blade or should I opt for the Wusthof Classic with the flex blade
Answer: It's not very flexible, I would go with the flex blade if you're looking for flex.
