3 best knife with plastic sheaths

Plastic sheaths for knives are common accessories used in the culinary world, particularly in home kitchens and professional settings. These sheaths are designed to cover the blade of a knife when it's not in use, providing several benefits:

  1. Safety: One of the primary purposes of a plastic knife sheath is to enhance safety. When knives are stored without a sheath, the sharp edge can pose a risk to the user or others who may come into contact with the blade. The sheath acts as a protective cover, reducing the chances of accidental cuts or injuries.

  2. Blade Protection: Plastic sheaths help protect the knife blade from damage. Without a sheath, knives can be easily scratched or chipped when stored in drawers or on magnetic strips. The sheath provides a barrier that helps preserve the sharpness and quality of the blade.

  3. Edge Retention: By preventing the blade from coming into contact with other utensils or surfaces, a sheath can help maintain the sharpness of the knife's edge for a longer period. This means less frequent honing or sharpening, which is essential for chefs who rely on consistently sharp knives.

  4. Hygiene: Plastic knife sheaths can also help maintain hygiene in the kitchen. They prevent dust, food particles, and other contaminants from settling on the blade, ensuring that the knife remains clean and ready for use.

  5. Easy Identification: Sheaths often come with labels or color-coding, making it easier to identify specific knives in a set. This is especially helpful in busy kitchens where various types of knives are used.

  6. Travel and Storage: Plastic sheaths are convenient for transporting knives or storing them in a knife roll or bag. They add an extra layer of protection during travel and ensure that the knives are securely held in place.

  7. Affordability: Plastic knife sheaths are typically more affordable than their counterparts made of wood or leather. This makes them a cost-effective option for protecting and storing knives.

It's important to note that while plastic sheaths offer these advantages, they may not be suitable for all types of knives. For example, high-quality chef's knives with a wooden handle and a decorative bolster may benefit from a more tailored storage solution. Additionally, some knife enthusiasts prefer alternative materials like leather or blade guards made of softer materials for their knives.

In conclusion, plastic sheaths are practical and affordable accessories that can help enhance the safety, protection, and longevity of chef's knives and other cutlery in the kitchen. They are widely available and a popular choice among both home cooks and professional chefs for maintaining the quality and functionality of their knives.

Question: Could you please tell me how long the blade is, and how well it fits into the sheath? Thank you
Answer: The Indigo light has quit. Bought it in May 6, 2017, 6 months ago. I have not found mine to even be water resistant. I have not swam, snorkeled or immersed it in water, doing dishes, shower. However, it looks rusty around the back of the watch. I have the worn the watch on hot days. I guess one should not perspire in this watch! In order to repair, I must send $7.00. Timex will also charge me for a battery if needed. I don't know if the light uses a battery of it's own. I have really liked the watch up to this point of a few days ago. really disappointed in Timex's quality!

User questions & answers

Question: I have to cut 50 µm mm (om4+) cable and it notches my every day carry. anyone know how this blade will perform
Answer: If you want to actually CUT the metal conductor, it will notch as the blade is stainless, but for anything smaller than gauge 22 (like Cat5e cable) it's not gonna dent the blade much. If you wanna strip (cut the plastic housing) cables, then this knife works wonder, especially the top hook. I try to only use the top hook when slicing down housing or when striping the end of the conductor, to not dull it too quickly and the main blade for everything else. I have the Lansky BladeMedic (http://www.amazon.com/Lansky-3143-PS-MED01-BladeMedic/dp/B0085PPSIQ) that I keep in my tool box next to my everyday tools and it makes quick work of fixing the edge of the blade when you feel like it's not cutting fast enough anymore. Still, this blade isn't as hard as the Klein one, but resharpen a lot easier and the top hook actually gives you twice the lifetime between resharpening when you're out in the field without a sharpening stone for a while. And be careful, you can cut yourself easily at first when you're not used to a razor sharp fixed blade knife.
Question: Does its sheath clip onto the craftline pro sheaths? The pictures show one that does, and one that doesnt. One picture obviously lying
Answer: Well, both pictures are probably right. :-) The top one is the original Craftline Electrician (which is what we currently have in stock). Cannot say with certainty, but educated guess is Morakniv revised these to use the newer Craftline Pro sheath at some point and left the part number (and EAN) the same. That is what it looks like, in any case. Best bet will be to simply ask the individual sellers which sheath they have.
Question: What is the notch for
Answer: To slit the main (outer) insulation of the cables and to help skin small gauge wires and slit sheet material or anything that requires a very sharp but not necessary long blade. On NMD90 (common household wiring), the back notch does an excellent job to slit open the outer jacket without risking to cut trough the insulation of the wires inside. I only use the back notch to cut soft material (by choice) to keep it sharp and clean, since it's not easy to sharpen quickly and would be hard to prevent rounding off the tip thru sharpening cycles. You'll find many uses for the notch, I promise you. Best electrician knife for residential/soft jacket insulation duty, everyone is jealous !
Question: Any thoughts on how to keep it sharp
Answer: Basically, any standard knife sharpener works just fine. A sharpener with a flat surface is easiest to use though. :-)
