Answer: | The surface is not really nonstick. This is a pre seasoned Wok, but you will need to season it again. After a couple of good "seasonings" it will basically have a non stick suface due to the oil that becomes the barrier next to the cast iron. After each use, if you apply a seasoning spray to lightly coat the cooking surface the foods will no longer stick. Some people use melted vegetable shortening then wipe it out with paper towels. There are instructions on seasoning spray or you can look up videos online on how to apply other oils. I purchased this Wok and I love it. |

The black you see is factory seasoning. Some comes off when you actually begin to use it. It is hard to find photos of "fresh" cast iron, but here is one. Seasoned for a natural, easy release finish that improves with each use. Seasoning is a necessary step in using cast iron cookware. Oil is baked into the pores of the iron at the foundry to prevent rusting and to eventually provide a natural, non-stick cooking surface.
After cooking, clean wok with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Avoid putting hot cast iron into cold water.
Thermal shock can occur causing the metal to warp or crack. If you are having trouble removing stuck-on food, boil some water in your wok for a few minutes to loosen residue, making it easier to remove.
Towel dry immediately and apply a light coating of oil to the wok while it is still warm. Store in a cool, dry place.

Answer: | Do not return it. If you live in high humidity climate it needs extra coating of good peanut oil or a mix of vegetable and sesame seed oil. After I oil mine, I cover it with a plastic wrap or just a kitchen towel since I live in Texas where is humid in winter and super humid in summer. Please try it. This is an excellent wok. |

Care: Before use, rinse pan with hot water (no soap), then dry thoroughly. Place pan on stovetop with heat on low, and coat interior with a small amount of Crisco or a mild flavored vegetable oil. Remove from heat and wipe any excess oil away with a paper towel or cloth, and store.
To Season: Cover pan completely with a thin layer of vegetable oil or shortening, place cast iron upside down on the top rack of your oven, place foil on the bottom rack to catch oil drippings, then heat your cookware for one hour at 350F. Let your cookware cool, then it is ready to use.
To Clean: Simply rinse with hot water (do not use soap) and wipe with a sponge (do not use steel wool sponges). If there are stuck-on food remnants, scrub with coarse salt until clean, then rinse. Dry thoroughly and rub with oil.
