Answer: I have put my cast iron pan in the oven along with the silicone handles, but I still had to use an oven mit. Each pan is different as far as what the max temperature allowed would be. I would look up the pan on Amazon and see what is said.

Question: what is the difference between this lodge pan LCS3 @ $25 and the lodge LK8S3 pan which is $15? Both are ten 1/2 inch pans look the same
Answer: the LK8S3 is 12" diameter, has more a sharper "corner" where where the sides join the bottom, has more vertical sides, and is 2" deep. the LCS3 is 10" diameter, has sides that are angled outwards more, the sides join the bottom in more of a curve, and is 1.75" deep. basically, it much easier to slide an omelet (or anything else, I suppose) sideways out of the LCS3 without breaking.
Question: Mine seems to be rusting. I just bought it. Should it have rust? It got worse after the first use and wash
Answer: It sounds like you may have accidentally not cared for it correctly right at first. The nice thing about cast iron pans is that the rust problem can be fixed and it can be made just as good as new with a little elbow grease as long as you haven't let the corrosion go on long enough so that it causes pitting. What you'll need to do is remove the rust and any current seasoning with steel wool or something like that. When you remove the rust and seasoning, that is about the only time you might want to use soap along with the water, because the soap will help to remove the seasoning. You want to remove the current seasoning because you will be re-seasoning the entire pan and you don't want thicker parts of the seasoning or else the pan will become sticky or tacky in spots. Lodge seasons their pans with a canola oil spray. However, the best initial seasoning method I found stated to use Crisco (vegetable shortening). Their method worked extremely well for me. I don't remember the process to exacting details, but here it is to the best of my memory. First, heat the pan up by putting it in the oven at about your lowest oven setting of about 150F-200F for about a half hour or maybe a little more. This should make the pan pretty warm but not burning hot to the touch. Still take care in handling the hot pan to not burn yourself though. Before you start wiping the pan down with Crisco, turn the oven up to about 300F because the pan will go back in the oven. The first heating makes sure the pan is dry before applying seasoning and gets the pan just warm enough to spread Crisco over the pan and have the Crisco melt. Once the Crisco is spread all over the pan (inside and out) wipe it down some with a paper towel to keep the seasoning thin. You don't want too much seasoning on the pan. If the seasoning is too thick in spots it will get tacky at those spots. Place the pan back in the oven upside down with a sheet pan or sheet of aluminum foil underneath the pan to catch any oil drippings. After about 45 minutes, pull the pan back out and wipe the pan down again. You want to do this because the seasoning will drip downwards due to gravity and collect near the rim, etc. You want to wipe that excess off before it gets too dry and tacky. I can't remember if you sort of buff it at this point or at the end. I think you may want to buff it some with the paper towel at this point some. At the end it should have a somewhat dull black finish. But after you remove the excess, stick it back in for about another 20 minutes. Pull it out, buff it a little more if necessary and let it cool and the seasoning is done.At this point, your pan should be back to a nearly brand new state. My recommendation for the first few times you cook with it is to cook some chicken with the skin on or some bacon or something with some grease or fat to it. One of my grandmother's old cast iron pans stated "Chicken Fryer" on it. On one of my cast iron pans, the first couple of dishes I cooked in it was skin-on chicken. I used a little olive oil to cook the chicken in with the skin side down first. It was a chicken dish with olives, grapes and rosemary from the Smitten Kitchen Cookbook. After you cook the chicken on the stovetop, then it goes into the oven for a bit. After cooking that dish a couple times on the stovetop then finishing it in the oven, it gave my cast iron pan an amazing finish that looked like my grandmother had been cooking with it for 60 years. I think that the chicken fat from chicken skin, especially when cooked in the oven does an amazing job of helping to season the pan beyond the initial seasoning.Now after you cook your first dish, what I do is let the pan cool down some. Then I wash it down with plain hot water and no soap. If anything gets stuck to the bottom of the pan, I use this little 3" x 3" chain mail scrub pad. It gets the gunk off without damaging the seasoning. It kind of surprised me with it being metal. I thought it would hurt the seasoning but it didn't at all and it got the burnt on black gunk off pretty well if you have any. After I rinse it with hot water, I then just dry it off. I don't oil mine down or anything after that. If oil is added after cleaning it can become a gummy sticky mess with too thick of a seasoning that becomes tacky. Not to mention you can get oil all over where you store it. Instead, you just want to make sure you store it in a dry place right after you dry clean it and dry it off.For example, I once let some of mine sit on the counter close to the sink too long and the bottom of the pans started rusting. But when I let them cool and clean them off, dry and store them in a dry place right after cooking, I've had no issues at all with rusting.I wouldn't say there was likely anything wrong with your pan. You just need to get use to cooking with cast iron. Also as an FYI, avoid cooking foods with a high acidity at first until the seasoning is somewhat well developed. Acid can tend to break down the seasoning.PS - You don't really need to put it back on the stove to evaporate any remaining water. I've tried that and you really don't need to do that to prevent it from rusting. In fact, I think there is more risk to it than to not doing it. That's because if you're not careful you can overcook the pan with nothing in it and then you burn and ruin the seasoning. You can tell if you've burned and ruined the seasoning by how it will change the color of the pan from that nice dull black finish to this off colored spot on it. Then you have to go back and re-season it all over again.

Answer: Think of seasoning like this: if a pan says it is "seasoned" by the manufacturer, that simply means it is "food grade anti-rust protection". You can use the cleaning mode on your oven to remove this layer and apply your own although it will heat up your house and stink it up as well with burnt oil. Your best bet is to take some sand paper to it and smooth it out so it's not so rough to remove some of the "seasoning" applied by the manufacturer and then reseason it with whatever you'd like. You can use pretty much anything you have on hand although I'd recommend something cheap but with a high smoke point like peanut oil or canola oil. I personally prefer peanut because when it burns it tends to smell sweet and canola tends to smell fishy. Aside from that if the above paragraph sounds like too much work, just start using it out of the box after washing it well and you'll never have to worry about it. The more you use it the better the seasoning will get. You can use wood, plastic or metal spoons or spatulas but I'd avoid plastic because it'll melt on ya. It will be strong like glass once it's seasoned properly. I personally use a sander on any new cast iron that isn't pre-polished. I know it will wear down over time but I just hate the rough finish it has and prefer to get it broken in quicker.

Answer: I don't know. Mine came with the handles. I use them like everyday. The handles are a big help when moving it. My husband doesn't cook, however he is my set up team in the morning. He chooses my pots and skillets. Since I started using thee, he always have one or both on the stove waiting. My mom loves to fry fish and chicken in her cast iron pot. She told me buy cast iron and take care of them and they will out live any skillet I own. So I will get her a set and write the seller about the handles. If doesn't get the handles as promised, I would send it back also, unless the agree to send the handles. The skillets are with keeping.

Answer: I really have no idea what they mean by 'heat enhanced' other than it sounds like part of the pre-seasoning process. I do know this is a great little skillet. I use this 8" inch skillet to fry two eggs. Their 10" skillet is perfect for cornbread and the 12" for everything else. You probably already know how to care for your cast iron skillets, but if you don't - that will be the deciding factor whether this skillet ends up in the garbage or passed down for generations. Caring for cast iron is easy and when properly done, it's a good cookware investment.

Answer: It simply means it's made rust resistant via an exclusive heat treat process. In response to other comments: I have yet to see a Lodge Cast Iron product that isn't pre-seasoned and ready to use. Don't waste your money on flax seed oil (theoretical unproven BS), or 2 hours at 450-500: 350F for 1 hour with any organic food oil is all that's needed. Multiple seasonings help to produce a smoother cooking surface on newer cast iron because it's not *yet* machined to be smooth.

Answer: The dimensions of the cast iron skillet are 17.5in x 11in x 2 in. The diameter of the pan is 11 inches with the entire length including handles is 17.5 inches. The depth of the pan is 2 inches.

Answer: The top edge of the cast iron pan is about 11.22inches. It extends to 11.7 inches where the pour spouts are.
Question: Can I use on glass top stove
Answer: In general, most modern cast iron skillets are not designed to be used on glass top stoves. Even among vintage cast iron pans, the only ones that are really safe to use on glass top stoves are the large block Griswolds, which had especially smooth bottoms. But a No. 9 (11.25") Griswold skillet in very good condition would cost you around $100 or more. Some people do use modern cast iron pans on glass tops, but if you do, you will want to be careful to set your pan down gently and avoid moving it once it is on the stove. That wouldn't work for me, because I tend to move pans around a lot when I am cooking. But I have a old electric coil type stove. I believe you'd probably get more even heating on a glass top, so you may not need to move pans much when cooking on one. To sum it up, if it were me, I would sand (and re-season) the bottom of this or any modern cast iron pan if I were going to use it on a glass top stove. This is not that hard to do, and the benefits of cooking with cast iron are certainly worth the extra effort. One other alternative would be to get a high quality carbon steel skillet. They cook much like cast iron, and most of them are smooth on both the inside and the outside right out of the box. But again, a good carbon steel skillet will cost several times more than the price of a cast iron skillet and a few sheets of sandpaper.

Answer: I didn't find any markings on the skillet as to where it was made. I would not recommend this skillet, it is actually an 11" skillet, you can't find a lid that fits it.

Question: Whith what OIL was it seasoned
Answer: Our cast iron had been seasoned with Kosher Certified Palm Olein for years. We changed the seasoning to organic Flaxseed oil on the second half of 2017, which has had better results in testing, and skillets with that seasoning started hitting store shelves in August 2017. So both oils are vegetable oils baked at super high temperatures, but we just changed from Certified Kosher Palm Olein to Flaxseed, which is not certified Kosher. If you buy one today from Amazon, it'll be a flaxseed oil pan.

Question: Will it work on a glass topped electric stove
Answer: I have an induction stove with a glass top and it works fine. I bought it specifically for my glass top since a regular cast iron pan is a bit rough on the bottom this is smooth and will not scratch my stove top. However, it is heavy I always use care setting it down on the stove I think it is heavy enough that if dropped it has a possibility to break the glass.

Answer: I have the Lodge Dutch Oven and I use the lid from this which fits the skillet. I would assume that you might be able to pick up a lid from Bed, Bath and Beyond because they sell individual lids.

Our History

Victoria was founded in 1939. We are a three-generation family business located in Medellín, Colombia. The founder Raúl Mejía was 16 years old when he decided to start a small business in the foundry industry. He crafted his first products: metallic toy soldiers and decorative crosses. Question: Can you keep this on while cooking on the stove
Answer: Since it's made of silicon it's probably good to use while cooking. If you have a gas stove and the flame comes around the side of the pan, the temp may exceed 500 degrees and it may scorch.
Question: The sleeve did not fit the smallest pan that comes with the Lodge Cast Iron set. Is there a smaller sleeve for that
Answer: If you read the information published on this listing, it says that this handle is for 10" and larger and then gives you the Lodge number for 8" and smaller. Since the handles vary in size, one pot holder cannot fit all
Question: Can you leave this on always if you use it on the cook top, and NOT in the oven
Answer: I have an electric (coil) stove top. I leave mine on all the time. It doesn't get hot when I preheat the pan and it hasnt ever melted. I do take it off when I clean the pan and don't put it back on until the pan has thoroughly dried. I don't have drawers in my kitchen to store it in, but leaving it on hasn't caused any issues for me.
Question: I read it protects up to 450 degrees, wondering if it's oven safe or only meant for quick use to move the pan from burner
Answer: Remove it as soon as you put the pan in the oven. Then you can put it back on just prior to removing the pan from the oven. You must realize that it would get hot in the oven just like the pan. The up to 450 degrees is just saying not for use if the pan was heated beyond that temp.

Question: Can you use it on a glass top stove
Answer: Yes you can use it on a glasstop and any other heating element including induction. For glass tops, try not to move, or slide the Skillet around while cooking. It may scratch the surface, though it won't affect the heating element. And a note to Chris... Don't use a metal pad. Use a pinch or two of course Kosher Salt in the pan and scrub. The salt will release the sticky foods and clean the pan. Seasoning the pan regularly will build the anti-stick properties of the skillet. Over time it will become completely non-stick if properly cared for and seasoned. I use a number of Cast Iron pots and pans, and am a Home and Personal Chef. They are awesome cooking devices!

Answer: All pre seasoned Skillets come that way, I researched on Google before I purchased and learned what to do so I wouldn't have to go thru the process taking months to get the pan seasoned properly. Use sandpaper on both sides until smooth, then oil and leave the oil in the pan until you use it, wipe and reoil for cooking. Please do some research, it's easy to find on google.. C. Diaz.....

Ready to Use: Factory Seasoning

To provide you with ready to use cast-iron skillets, all our cast-iron cookware pass through factory pre-seasoning stage in which soy-based oil is used on these high head allowing the polymers to create an initial layer of seasoning. This one factory seasoned layer is equivalent to 10-15 rounds of normal home seasoning. The normal cast iron seasoning we create at home is attained when the fats and oils used in cooking are collected on the cast iron.

This makes our cast iron cookware completely ready to be used straight out of the box. No initial seasoning is required. However; in order to maintain the factory-seasoned cast iron layer, you need to season it from time to time. Factory seasoning is just a kick-start to your cookware’s seasoning life.
