9 best granite ware roaster
A granite ware roaster is a type of cookware designed for roasting meats and other dishes in the oven. It falls under the category of roasting pans and is commonly used in the kitchen for preparing large cuts of meat, poultry, or even vegetables. Here are some key points about granite ware roasters:
Material: Granite ware roasters are made from a type of carbon steel that is coated with porcelain enamel. This enamel coating gives the cookware a speckled appearance that resembles granite, hence the name "granite ware." The enamel coating not only adds durability but also makes the roaster non-reactive with acidic ingredients.
Versatility: Granite ware roasters are versatile kitchen tools that can be used for roasting a wide range of dishes, including whole chickens, turkeys, hams, roasts, and even casseroles. They are also suitable for slow-cooking and braising.
Size and Shape: Granite ware roasters come in various sizes and shapes, including rectangular and oval. The choice of size depends on the type and size of the food you plan to roast.
Heat Distribution: The porcelain enamel coating on granite ware roasters helps distribute heat evenly, ensuring that your food cooks uniformly. This can result in more consistent and flavorful results.
Easy to Clean: The non-porous surface of the enamel coating makes granite ware roasters relatively easy to clean. Most of the time, you can simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth. However, some models are dishwasher-safe for added convenience.
Handles and Racks: Many granite ware roasters come with integrated handles for easy transport to and from the oven. Some models also include racks that can elevate the food above the pan, allowing for better air circulation and even cooking.
Durability: The porcelain enamel coating not only enhances the appearance of the roaster but also makes it resistant to rust, staining, and odors. With proper care, a granite ware roaster can last for many years.
Temperature Range: Granite ware roasters are designed to withstand high oven temperatures, making them suitable for both low-and-slow cooking and high-temperature roasting.
Maintenance: To maintain the longevity of your granite ware roaster, it's important to avoid using metal utensils that could scratch the enamel coating. Also, be cautious when transferring it from extreme heat to a cold surface to prevent thermal shock.
Cost: Granite ware roasters are often an affordable option for those looking for a reliable roasting pan without breaking the bank.
In summary, a granite ware roaster is a versatile and durable piece of cookware designed for roasting a variety of dishes in the oven. Its porcelain enamel coating helps distribute heat evenly and makes it easy to clean, and it can be a valuable addition to any kitchen for preparing delicious roasted meals.

User questions & answers
Question: | How deep is the bottom of the 15" pan, from the inside bottom to the lip of the pan. There is no consistency in the listing, questions, or reviews |
Answer: | You have to buy a HEAVY DUTY 5/8" (16mm) Magnetic Drill Chuck with 3/4" Weldon Shank Adapter |
Question: | what color is the pan |
Answer: | On the side of the base, then the line runs down to a collar on the drill. Limits you to upright drilling. |
Question: | I only cook small roasts and (more frequently) a whole chicken. What size oval roaster would be best for my needs |
Answer: | No, this is not the hookdrill. It uses a very different concept to apply leverage. By clamping to the material and using a lever arm you are able to deliver powerful leverage at a perfect right angle. Made from quality parts to last a lifetime, the Rapidrill PRO is truly one of a kind. |
Question: | Is there a rack included |
Answer: | Hi there, the max width of the top clamp to the bottom clamp is 8.5", and that's not even accounting for the drill or drill bit... so no it WILL NOT fit this type of application. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Exterior dimensions 5"H to the top of the lid handle |
Answer: | Nope. The bottom section will fit length-wise. But with the lid on, the the lid handle makes it too tall. Wish I knew this before I bought it. I still use it in the Breville but will cover with aluminum foil when I have to cover it. |
Question: | I have a granite roaster that measures exactly 13 inches from inside handle to handle without the lid. Is this one the same |
Answer: | Unless the porcelain "enamel" surface is cracked or broken, the pan should continue to perform normally. The "enamel" surface was sprayed on and then fused to the carbon steel using extremely high temperature. It is not repairable in the usual sense. As Ms. Lembris states, this type of pan is never intended for use on the stove top. Doing so will lead to discoloration as you have learned; and could lead to actual failure of the surface finish rendering the pan unfit for cooking use. |
Question: | Will the 13 inch roaster fit in the Breville large toaster oven with its' lid on |
Answer: | The normal baking temperature up to 450 degree would not cause any issue. |
Question: | I put it on a stovetop to heat bean soup. Enamel on the inside discolored (lightened and dulled) right where the stove element was. Any way to fix |
Answer: | Have not used it in that way. Not sure. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you roast with at 500 degrees for an hour and turn down |
Answer: | Parameters as follows: Reach of arm center of shaft to center of rubber hold-down foot= 3.30" (a little more than 3 1/4"). Shaft of rubber hold-down foot is 1 1/2" long total with about 3/4" up/down adjustability (with locknut), and can be removed entirely (it's a standard 1/4-20, and I bet you could get creative and replace the foot with a short horizontal arm extension to hack a longer reach if the clamping pressure didn't have to be high). The shaft of the clamp has a max clearance of 4 3/4" from worktable to bottom of rubber hold-down foot. The tool is all metal and nicely solid except for the clamping lever which is durable industrial plastic. I have found it to be useful for close-in jobs requiring switching between different clamping heights and locations during a build (I have two of them). Hope that helps. |
Question: | What weight turkey will it hold |
Answer: | It fits my 10"-- "fit" depends on the diameter or size of the holes on the drill press bed so you can screw the holddown firmly onto the bed. My guess is its a pretty standard fit. |
Question: | what are the internal dimensions |
Answer: | It is a "M10.1.5", ACR Hdw. carries them. |
Question: | What size turkey can you fit in it |
Answer: | The clamp fits in holes in the drill press table and not the table the drill press is mounted on. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How big of a Turkey can you cook in this Roaster |
Answer: | I went through a LOT of trouble to get the roaster made in Indiana. I can tell you this: I contacted Granite Ware and they told me that ALL of their roasters are made in the U.S. (It was not clear to me whether this has always been the case, but obviously someone is doing a poor copy out of Mexico.) Anyhow, at that time Amazon's listing had Granite Ware as the name of the Seller and that is when I bought my made-in-Indiana roaster that I love so much. Since then I have seen it flip twice. For a couple or few weeks the seller was listed as "Columbia House," and it is apparent they are the ones selling the Mexican knockoffs. Now today I see the seller is again listed as "Granite Ware." If you want to be certain that your roaster is made in the USA then double-check on the listing before you buy and first make certain that GRANITE WARE is listed as the seller. Otherwise, my guess is that you will get one from Mexico. Why Amazon allows this to flip-flop like that I have no idea. |
Question: | does it come with a rack |
Answer: | I had a 26-lb turkey (pasture-raised by my brother-in-law) last Christmas. It was just the right size (I was so relieved!!!). |
Question: | How can they get away with claims of family made in Indiana for a product made in Mexico |
Answer: | It has some small ridges in the bottom, but mostly flat. |
Question: | what is the largest size of turkey does it hold |
Answer: | No, mine did not come with a wire rack. |

Answer: | It moves a little |
Question: | Will the V shaped rack fit a 20 lb turkey on it, or with a bird this size, would it have to be used without the rack |
Answer: | If you can find a way to mount it to the saw, it should work. You would have to modify the mounting that is meant for a drill press column. |
Question: | can I use the rack to roast a turkey in an aluminum pan on my gas grill |
Answer: | The base is 3 1/8” wide by 6 9/16” long. I just drilled 30 holes with the drill and it worked wonderfully. Definitely worth the money. |
Question: | Title says nonstick rack but it looks like stainless steel? I don't want any nonstick coating. Inside depth is 3.37 inches |
Answer: | Yes this unit has the pilot light. Buy one of the fabricator's Kits (0904105 or 0904109) and you will also get a 1/2" drill chuck and a five piece cutter kit. |

Question: | Will it roast a 8 pound turkey |
Answer: | The 3" annular cutters are custom for Hougen unless you use the Industrial Line of cutters that have an 1-1/4" shank. There is not Hougen drill that takes a 3/4" weldon shank that can fit a 3" diameter cutter. I would look into the Jancy Slugger 4X4. |

Question: | Country of origin? What size rack fits |
Answer: | Yes, I use it as usually 50% of what I feed it and then about 30% of the flour for the actual dough. My family really likes the end result. |
Question: | At the top it says the pan measures 19'' x 13'' x 9'', but down below it says the pan measures 22 x 20.5 x 15.5 in. Which is it |
Answer: | It's been awhile since I used it, but I do not believe it was bleached. |
Question: | What do you mean by the set of 3 in the headline |
Answer: | Yes, but the recipe needs to be one for coconut flour, not gluten free 1 to 1 or all purpose flour |
Question: | Are the edges of the pan sharp? I have a pan by this maker that cuts my fingers wondering if they fixed this problem |
Answer: | I have not tried it for bread, but muffins, cookies etc it is awesome! |
Question: | I need a replacement broiler pan that goes under the gas stove. It measures exactly 17" from side to side. Will this fit |
Answer: | Yes. This product will work well in a bread machine with a gluten setting. |
Question: | Is this a good roaster to steam/roast a ham or turkey |

Question: | I need a pan that can both be used in the oven for baking and can then be moved straight to the stove top (for reducing gravies) will this hold up |
Answer: | Most protein powders also have other amino acids.... I add quinoa flower to other flours or cereal to increase the protein value, or alone. But in a sizeable amount in a smoothie it might overpower fruit flavors, but that might take some experimentation for taste and texture. I find that the quinoa flour will help thicken the flour in making pancakes, especially corn, so that I often don't have to use baking powder (the gluten free type). I also use buckwheat flour in small amounts to thicken pancake batters made from corn, or rice. So if you like a thick smoothie you might try quinoa as a thickening agent, but again experiment for taste. However, I've never use quinoa as a substitute for my rice based protein powders, but in addition to it. |
