Answer:	No, but hot air/smoke does come out from the back. So I place it under a hood to vent and you want to keep the back away from things that don't like heat. It is basically an oven so the heat and the smoke from the food have to come up some how. However because it is generally much tightly enclosed, the heat is better trapped inside for cooking, which is one of the reasons why this things is more efficient than an oven.

If you are cooking something like black beans or any other food with a strong color; you will have a mess on the kitchen. Very disappointing. I have replaced this pot with a WMF Perfect Plus made in Germany, which has all the performance characteristics and quality that I expected.

Answer:	There is no need to panic. The Cooker has to release the extra steam gathered inside. So, it does whistle and release the steam from the outlet thru valve. At the same time, you should know how long you need to let Cook the item, otherwise the cooked item will overflow or stuck at the bottom and blacken the base of cooker. There should be a manual inside the box explaining the procedure. Depending on the time required for item to be cooked, it whistles one/two/three times after the interval of 1-2 minutes.You can gain experience by shutting off your Stove after the first big whistle, and take the cooker aside and then put the stick in the top whole of VALVE and slowly pull up a little bit, to let the remaining steam come out gently.. you can do this 4-5 times to take the whole steam out.I always put some water in the Cooker and put the items in the container, lock it up properly with the ring inside the handle, put the valve at the top and then put the cooker on stove for 5-15 minutes depending on the items. Again, if you are not sure how long to cook, please use the above method to gain some experience.MAKE SURE YOU ARE AROUND WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN USING COOKER :)Hope this helps.
