User questions & answers
Question: | what weight is the pan |
Answer: | Hello, the weight of the pan is approx 11 lbs |
Question: | How do you season cast iron ? What temp an for how long |
Answer: | Seaoning cast iron requires a chemical reaction.Seasoning is really not the correct term. I prefer coating with a non stick finish because the "seasoning does not affect the cast iron. How To Season Your Cast-Iron Skillet: Scrub skillet well in hot soapy water. Dry thoroughly. Spread a thin layer of melted shortening or vegetable oil over the skillet. Place it upside down on a middle oven rack at at least 450 degrees. Most oils need this heat to start the chemical reaction to cling to the cast iron. (Place foil on a lower rack to catch drips.) Bake 1 hour; let cool in the oven. Repeat 2 0r 3 times until the pan is a s slippery as ice. |
Question: | Rusted inmediately. what am i suppose to do? the deep pan is heavily rusted even though the frying pan is perfectly fine. i followed all instructions |
Answer: | Copied directly from their product information on Amazon Use & Care While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After cooking, we recommend cleaning with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap or the dishwasher is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately cleaning and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm. But because it's already damaged through this barely acceptable "pre-seasoned" layer. After you get your skillet back to a smooth surface, Fry some chicken in it or use Crisco or lard when you first cook in it as the fats will bind with the iron as it heats. Don't use too high of a heat until you have reseasoned it well. I use a rough steel wool for removing food or a green scrubby if I don't think it's too bad. Yes I have used soap but very little and never soak it for more than a hour. I always follow up cleaning my skillets by heating them at a medium heat on the burner then use a generous amount of Olive oil then put it in my oven upside down to cool. |
Question: | can you tell me where this is made? thanks |
Answer: | This is not manufactured in Tennessee. Lodge is manufactured in Tennessee. I know of two other cast iron cookware manufacturers in the United States. They both extremely nice, they are pricey. American Skillet Company is in the process of making state shaped pans (7 so far). The other American company is Finex (the skillets are gorgeous and high quality. This brand is made in China. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a ceramic cook top. Is there an accessory to adapt using cast iron on my ceramic stove |
Answer: | I no longer have a ceramic coo top. I do remember the instructions said not to use cookware that was too abrasive. I have an electric stove and only will be using this to bake bread in the oven. i think the texture is too rough for your stove. |
Question: | Can you bake with the silicone mitts attached |
Answer: | Yes and NO. it depends on the temperature. If it gets 350 degrees or more, even for a short period of time, they get very hot. They may not burn but you don't want to use them to remove the pot either. If you are cooking something at a very high temperature (like sourdough bread), I don't think it would be good to leave them on. They won't burn but they won't be useful and could get in your way when trying to take out a very hot pan, thus not very safe. |
Question: | Is this a good one for big green egg |
Answer: | Yes sure, it is made of heavy duty cast iron |
Question: | Where is this manufactured |
Answer: | Flashlight nut is wrong and should stick to flashlights. Bezos is a billionaire from selling subpar items from chinaland. They are not particularly concerned with American satisfaction only the money. Cast iron should last a lifetime of taken care of properly not this. |

Answer: | Hi, it is made in CHINA. |
Question: | How deep is it, can you boil pasta in it, and make a roastery chicken? I want something I can make mac and cheese in or roastery chicken |
Answer: | Hi Linda: The microwave weighs 23 lbs and the outside dimensions are: height 10 5/16" X width 17 13/16" X depth 13 5/8". The inside dimensions are: height 7 13/16" X width 12 3/8" X depth 11 9/16". The capacity is .06 cubic feet. It has glass turntable inside. We bought it because my son's college dorm required the microwave to be no more than 600 watts. It sits perfectly on top of the mini fridge in the dorm. Highly recommend. |
Question: | what is the diameter |
Answer: | The input is around 850 to 900 watts. I don't have the oven in front of me to look at but this was the reason I bought it. I am running it off of a 1000 watt power inverter in my semi truck and needed a low wattage microwave. My old microwave drew 1050 watts and the new inverter would not run it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much does the 3 quart dutch oven weight without the lid |
Answer: | I'm not sure. But keep in mind these puppies are heavy no matter what. Especially if you're thinking you may have trouble lifting things due to joint issues |
Question: | How do you prevent the non-enameled areas (like the edge of the lid) from rusting |
Answer: | This happened to me as well. First time I used it rust dripped into the simmering food and stained the enamel. I haven’t used it since. |
Question: | Has anyone ordered the 7 quart that does not specify oval? Is it round? I'm cooking on induction and need a round vessel |
Answer: | I have the 7 qt round. It is absolutely amazing. It cooks exactly like my $360 Le Creuset we got as a wedding gift. The fact that I paid $42 delivered same day as ordered makes everything taste even better. I have used it over a dozen times since receiving it and it cleans up like new. No chips, no damage and I toss it around and treat it like a $42 pot. I have used our Le Creuset only a couple of times in 15 years! I felt like I had to baby it out of fear of damaging it. In fact, we decided to make it a family heirloom - i.e. I won't use it again and will gift it to my daughter when she is married. She is thrilled! Of course, I had to let her believe that the Crockpot was nearly as expensive and the only reason I am keeping the Crockpot is because it is blue. The Le Creuset is red, her favorite color. I figure I'll deal with explaining my lie when the time comes. She's just a tween and has not yet fallen prey to the cynical capitalism that would have her checking prices on Amazon. Hell, maybe I'll be dead when she marries then I don't have to worry about the Crockpot lie (OR paying for her wedding!) |
Question: | Where is this pan manufactured ? Thanks |
Answer: | The package insert says made in China. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the diameter of the area that actually touches the burner (on a flat induction cooktop |
Answer: | The bottom is 9", but part of that includes the curve between the bottom of the pot and the sides so only about 8" would actually be touching the stove surface. When you reverse the "lid" to be a frying pan, 8" would be touching the stove surface. |
Question: | can it be used in a 500 degree oven to bake bread |
Answer: | Even though you may not BAKE bread at 500 degrees, it is a good idea to preheat the oven and cast iron up to 500 to compensate for heat loss when you open the oven. I typically turn oven down to 450/425 after I've placed the dough and covered. The preheating seals the crust and allows for a good steam. |
Question: | Exact dimensions |
Answer: | Handle to Handle width: 12 5/8"Non-handle width: 10 5/8"Depth including lid: 6 1/4"Depth without lid: 4 1/2"Depth of lid including lip: 1 7/8" |
Question: | what is best way to re-season the lodge logic l8dd3 before using it |
Answer: | I'm a bit late for you, but for anyone else who comes along wondering ...Wash well with hot soap and water when you get it home. Then dry it. Then put it on the stovetop on a low heat for a good 10-15 minutes to thoroughly dry the pores, while preheating oven to 350-400. Coat VERY thinly with a HIGH-smoke point oil (grapeseed or flax seed oil). Stick it in the oven, upside down (protect bottom of oven in case you've put too much oil on) and bake for a good hour. Turn off oven and leave pan in oven until cold. You can/should repeat as often as you want initially, up to about 6 times (if you stay aware of the pan, you can remove from oven while still warm to apply another THIN coating of oil, if not then start at the heating pan on stovetop point - best to apply oil to a warm or hot pan), but a couple to a few times should be enough if you're conscientious about applying oil to the heated dry pan after every use. (Oh, don't use soap again, just rinse or wipe out well after every use - using a scraper or hard brush if needed, then heat on stove). Eventually applying another coat of oil to the pan is something that only needs to be done every so often, and you'll have a beautifully seasoned pan without waiting for years! After cooking something greasy, I'd wipe out all the grease, heat the pan well wiping out the extra grease as it heats til pan looks dry. Not necessary to apply oil again since the bacon grease (or whatever) serves as a coating of oil.I have to admit, though, that I've never done the oven method, although I know it's highly recommended. Mostly because I have the time/patience to do it all on the stovetop (takes more babysitting and time). I've always PLANNED on doing the oven method, but it was summer when I got my first cast iron and didn't want to heat up the house. It worked so well for me, I've done all my pans that way. Now that it's winter, I may try putting a couple of my newer pans in oven, but most simply do not need it any longer. The reason I heat the pan on the stove every time after I rinse it is because there could be water vapor in the pores that I can't see. You need to dry that out before you season the pan! Besides, oil is applied better/easier to a warm/hot pan.Lastly, you ALWAYS want the pan to look dry after you've applied the oil. If you can see the oil, or the sheen from the oil, you've applied too much. Literally only takes a few drops! If you apply it too thickly, you'll probably end up with your seasoning flaking off down the road.If rinsing or scraping your pan isn't taking cooked on foods off, then you can use kosher salt as an abrasive. Toss it into the pan (I like to do it while it's warm), and wipe over the spot hard with a towel. It's worked for me every time, though I rarely get stuff cooked on (usually will happen if my daughter cooks since she's new to cooking). Worst case scenario - if you've done the seasoning recommended above, you cannot hurt the pan by boiling water in it for a few minutes, till the cooked on stuff softens. BUT ... you MUST then season the pan, on the stovetop at least!Hope this helps someone! |

- WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.

User questions & answers
Question: | One of the reviews said you can't brown meat in this pot. Is that correct |
Answer: | I made chili in mine as soon as I got it, and I browned 2lb of meat as the first thing I did ... 1lb. ground chuck (85% / 15% fat) and 1lb. ground pork ... and then obviously many other ingredients, but it came out fine. I would think you can brown just about anything you wanted in it... Not sure why you couldn't? |
Question: | Is it made in the USA |
Answer: | Yes, they are made overseas, not in the USA. I've had my pan for 7 years now...and it's used weekly, and more often in the winter months. I was a bit disappointed when it came and I realized it wasn't made in the USA but decided to give it a chance. After 7 years of hard use I can honestly say it's the best pot I have ever owned! It's discolored a bit, not surprising with the amount of use it gets and all the soups stews and roasts I make in it throughout each year. But that hasn't affected the pot at all. It is just a good as it was when I first bought it. I'm going to try the 1 cup baking soda and 4 cups water trick (boil 5 min let sit with the lid on for 2 hours) that I read about in one of the other questions to see if it will return to it's original beige coloring, but even if it doesn't, it's still going to be my "go to" pot for everything I can use a dutch oven for :-) I highly recommend this pot, even though it's not made in the USA! |
Question: | Flat bottom suitable for glass top range |
Answer: | Yes. I use mine on a flat top electric range all the time with no problems. I allow it to heat on medium heat and it's good to go! |
Question: | I followed the cleaning instructions and after 6mths of use the interior is not slick anymore and everything sticks is this normal? Is there a warranty |
Answer: | That is because it is cast iron. Every so often, you need to "season" it, which is what makes the surface slick. The basic process is coating the exposed iron in high-heat oil, and heating it to a very high temperature for about an hour. There is a bit more to it, but just look up "how to season cast iron". The oil you rub in and heat onto it fills the porous surface of the iron and makes it non-stick. To clean cast-iron surfaces, you don't want to submerge in water or use soap on it. It is best to clean right after using, and overall just scrub any residual gunk off. You don't even need water, usually! If you use a bunch of soap and water on your pot, it will just ruin the coating, and you will need to re-season it. If you take care of your cast iron though, it will be with you for life! :) http://www.seriouseats.com/2016/09/how-to-season-cast-iron-pans-skillets-cookware.html |

Cooking And Caring For Your Lodge Enameled Cast Iron
1. Allow cookware to cool.
2. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon Scrub Brush is recommended to preserve the cookware’s original appearance. Citrus juices and citrus-based cleaners (including some dishwasher detergents) should not be used, as they can dull the exterior gloss.
3. If necessary, use nylon pads or scrapers to remove food residue; metal pads or utensils will scratch or chip porcelain.
4. Slight stains can be removed by rubbing with dampened cloth and Lodge Enamel Cleaner or other ceramic cleaner according to directions on bottle.
5. Dry cookware thoroughly before storing. Do not stack cookware.

User questions & answers
Question: | can this pot be used in a capfire - directly on the coals? Would oven with legs be bettet for this |
Answer: | Ys this can be put directly on the coals of a fire. The dutch ovens with legs and flat, rimmed tops are made specifically for use in fire pits. Remember to cook in the coals and place some of the coals on top, that what the rim is for. This model will work if you have a couple of bricks in the fire to give it stability. |
Question: | Can the wire bail handle be removed from the lid |
Answer: | The wire bail is not connected to the lid but to the Dutch oven itself |
Question: | Is the 13 1/4 inch a top or bottom of pot measurement? I need to know measurement across diameter of BOTTOM of pot |
Answer: | That is external top diameter, not counting wing handles or lip tab on one side. Outside bottom is approximately 11 inches in diameter. (Slightly rounded edges. :)) |
Question: | Can a whole chicken fit in it |
Answer: | Yes this is an excellent vessel for ANYTHING that fits. Until you become accustomed to it size, try a medium size chicken first. I love this unit. |
