10 best stove coffee maker
A stove coffee maker, often referred to as a stovetop espresso maker or Moka pot, is a classic and popular device used to brew espresso-like coffee on a stovetop. It's a compact and efficient tool for making strong, concentrated coffee with a rich flavor. Here's what you need to know about stove coffee makers:
Design and Components: A typical stovetop espresso maker consists of three main parts: a bottom chamber for water, a middle chamber for ground coffee, and an upper chamber where the brewed coffee collects. The top chamber usually has a spout for pouring the coffee.
Brewing Process: Stovetop espresso makers work by using steam pressure to push boiling water through the ground coffee in the middle chamber. As the water is heated, it creates steam, and the pressure forces the water up through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber.
Coffee Strength: The coffee produced by a stovetop espresso maker is stronger and more concentrated than regular drip coffee but less concentrated than espresso made with a high-pressure espresso machine. It has a robust and bold flavor that many coffee enthusiasts enjoy.
Coffee Grounds: To brew coffee with a stovetop espresso maker, you'll need to use finely ground coffee beans. It's essential to use the right grind size to ensure a proper extraction.
Heat Source: Stove coffee makers are designed to be used on a stovetop. They can be used on gas, electric, or induction stovetops, depending on the specific model's compatibility.
Capacity: These coffee makers come in various sizes, typically ranging from one to twelve cups of coffee. The size you choose depends on your brewing needs.
Maintenance: Stovetop espresso makers are relatively easy to clean. After each use, disassemble the components, and rinse them with warm water. Avoid using soap, as it can leave a residue that affects the taste of your coffee.
Materials: Most stovetop espresso makers are made of aluminum or stainless steel. Stainless steel models are durable and resistant to corrosion, while aluminum versions are more affordable but may require more care.
Affordability: Stovetop espresso makers are generally more budget-friendly than espresso machines, making them an attractive option for coffee lovers who want espresso-style coffee without a significant investment.
Versatility: While primarily used for making espresso-style coffee, some people also use stovetop espresso makers for frothing milk to make cappuccinos or lattes.
In summary, a stove coffee maker, also known as a stovetop espresso maker or Moka pot, is a versatile and affordable tool for brewing strong and flavorful coffee on your stovetop. It's a popular choice among coffee enthusiasts who appreciate the rich taste and simplicity of this brewing method.

User questions & answers
Question: | how many ounces of coffee does this make? The cups must be very small |
Answer: | Mix 2oz with 8oz of hot water for an Americano or with 8oz of hot milk for a cappuccino. For full effect you can whip the milk in a french press. The straight espresso (if brewed with find ground espresso and not regular ground coffee) that this makes is very strong by itself. You could drink a full pot of it but you'd be pretty wired, they're usually served in 1.5oz shots. |
Question: | Is this the same as the Moka pot, but cheaper? Any differences between this and the Moka brand |
Answer: | The main difference is the material being used. This is steel, while many are aluminum. There are alleged health problems with aluminum, plus it does leach into the flavor at times. This also has a different shape than the classic aluminum moka pots that have sharp angles. I don't think it makes any difference to the coffee, but it will look a bit different. I personally would still call this a Moka pot, even if it's not the Bialetti brand. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | Made in China on my box. No markings on pot. |
Question: | how to get the allumimum taste out |
Answer: | First VERY RARELY EVER use soap! I learned the hard way not to use soap. That caused a little bit aluminum taste but as I used it by the 3rd time all that bad taste was gone. If you run water only thru a few time this might help. There are some easy powder cleansers you can purchase at stores in the coffee pot or pots and pans area. But very important for you to rinse several times with clear cool water. Also maybe put a little coffee grounds in the bottom and soak it over night the rinse well with water ONLY. This may help. Good luck!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Got the percolator and replacement glass top but have to re-learn exactly how much coffee to use for this perfect percolator |
Answer: | 1 max loaded teaspoon per cup + 1 teaspoon for the pot. Now you have to define the volume of your "cup.". Some coffee lots state 6 oz is a " cup. ". This is dinky. My volume "cup" is a good size mug, about 10-12 oz.I I also wad up a piece of aluminum foil and jam it into the pouring spout ( I have an 8 and 12 cup stove top percolator: Farberware Yosemite). I use enough aluminum foil to have a "handle" I can grab to remove before pouring. What is the purpose for my aluminum foil spout plug? It greatly reduces vapor loss during percolating. You may START with 3-4 mugs of water, but if you forget about the coffee pot, you will quickly boil off a mug of water and change the flavor/strength. Set a simple timer for 6-8 minutes of percolation time, or about 16-18 total minutes from the time you apply heat. For coffee? I like Maxwell House Columbian. Tried many other brands, and "high end" designer / coffee snob beans. I keep coming back to Maxwell House Columbian. I have stopped searching for coffee. |
Question: | I bought this and love it. Can you leave the basket in after brewing? That would sure be easier but the instructions say take it out |
Answer: | We live on our yacht. I brew a full pot about every three days. I replace what is served with hot, boiling water directly into the basket to extend the grounds as I start with a full basket of an extra dark, gourmet blend. I leave the basket in with the grounds as when the brew has cooled and one desires a cup of coffee, we heat in the microwave. Also, if you add a scant amount of salt to the fresh grounds before you brew a pot of coffee, the brew does not turn acidic, an old restaurant trick! I love our percolator! |
Question: | Does it work on induction stove top |
Answer: | I just bought this to replace my electric percolator. I saw that many people had answered this question positively. I checked the Yosemite bottom with a magnet and the magnet did not stick but never-the-less it still worked on my Duxtop Induction cooktop. The manufacturer says the bottom was 18/0 stainless which is suitable for induction which is, I'm sure, why it works. I tested it against my regular glass top electric range top the water boiled about twice as fast on the induction cooktop. My method ended up being to set the induction cooktop to high until the water boils then turn down the power to 2 (500W, 180 degrees F) and let perc for 6-7 mins. Worked like a charm. |
Question: | Is the filter basket and stem made of stainless steel also or aluminum |
Answer: | Do NOT be fooled. You still need to use a Paper coffee filters in this basket. There is a certain type of Unhealthy oil material that comes off of All coffee..Only the coffee filter can catch it.If you notice with this is sold separate, Melitta 628354 Disc Coffeemaker Filters - Pack of 2 (200 Filters total)by Melitta ...Btw Dr. Oz talks about the need for coffee filters all the time even if your coffee pot comes with the mesh, or percolator , for a good reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pot need to be seasoned |
Answer: | The person who answered "Italy" to your question was the China factory trying to fool you... why are they ashamed of their own products? Cheaply made, for one. |
Question: | the gloss top of the lid of my percolator broke can I get a new one |
Answer: | I bought this coffee maker because it is induction ready. I have always cleaned my espresso maker with plain soap and water or use the dishwasher. Honestly, I only do this once a week, otherwise I just rinse and dry. I find coffee taste better this way as opposed to washing after each use. |
Question: | Hi, if you can make just one cup of coffee how does this work - what's the minimum amount of water required? thx |
Answer: | I don’t have an “opaque lining” in mine. I’ve used mine several times and nothing is corroded. |
Question: | Is the top glass or plastic |
Answer: | I don't know what that is in reference to. I have made maybe 140 pots of coffee with this, with no problems. One thing is to use good water; i always use filtered. Also good quality coffee. I would recommend this pot, as it does make a very good expresso for the type of pot it is. It will not be like espresso coming out of $12,000 machine like starbucks or in europe. But in Italy where we spend much time, almost everyone and family has this. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of beans or coffee ginds do I need to make espresso with this |
Answer: | If you have the chance, grind your own whole beans finely. I use dark roast beans with a high caffeine content, just a personal choice. Grinders are inexpensive. There are many to choose from on Amazon for $20 - $30. You will find that a pound of beans will last for quite a while, stored in your refrigerator. It only takes 2 tablespoons of ground beans to make a strong espresso, using this product. |
Question: | What grind of coffee works best with this |
Answer: | We use a fine grind, similar in size and feel to that of sugar. It should also be slightly coarser than a grind used for a regular espresso maker. Fine grind is required because of the short time the coffee grind comes in contact with water. |
Question: | Will this work on an electric coil stovetop |
Answer: | Yes. That’s the same type stove I have and it works. Only thing I do and just because I’m afraid of the arm melting is to place it closer to the edge of the coil. |
Question: | Can i wash it in the dishwasher |
Answer: | I’m 100% Italian senior citizen. I’ve been drinking espresso all my life and using an espresso pot and demitasse cups for 50 years. In Italy we don’t put it in the dishwasher. We just wash it out with cold water under the faucet in your sink, you don’t wanna use dish soap, you just wanna rinse it out. If you have to use anything put a little bit of Clorox in some water with a dish rag or spong and wipe it out and rinse it good. If you want to use Dish soap it’s up to you but it leaves a residue and can make the coffee taste funny. But to answer your question I wouldn’t put it in the dishwasher. Your call. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Is rice cooker made in japan |
Answer: | Yes it is. It says "made in japan" on the front of the rice cooker. Its the reason I choose this model over the others. So far, its an excellent rice cooker. Best one I've ever owned. I find the 10 cup size works better than the 5 cup as sometimes you want to cook extra and refrigerate it for fried rice. Get this cooker, you won't be sorry. |
Question: | Does the Teflon wear off easily in the pan |
Answer: | Yes. We have a very similar model, slightly earlier; we've replaced the liner pan once, after someone used a fork to serve up their rice, but now even with strong admonishments to the household, it's been peeling again for a couple of years... and we can no longer get a replacement. I don't know why Zo doesn't make a household-level stainless liner model. |
Question: | Have you tried cooking other whole grains in it- such as barley, quinoa, polenta, or buckwheat? If so, what settings have you used? Thanks |
Answer: | I cook brown rice mixed with 25% wild rice at the setting of "Brown Rice." The mixture cooks well with 150% of water without presoaking, but it takes 110 min. When time is short, I use a pressure cooker; it takes about 30 min. When I was a child, I used to eat barley at every meal, but I don't know how to cook. I will ask around. We always ate buckwheat in as noodles. I have just bought a bag of quinoa. I will find an answer in a month. |
Question: | Does anyone know what is the differences between Neuro Fuzzy and Mitcom Zojirushi rice cooker? Which one is better? Thanks |
Answer: | This model, the NS-ZCC10/NS-ZCC18, is the only one I've found labeled "Neuro Fuzzy" and is made in Japan, while the comparable Micom Fuzzy Logic NS-TSC10/NS-TSC18 is made in China. Two differences are that on the ZCC there are cool touch handles to pull out the pot and the steam vent is easier to clean. I have read in another answer related to the NS-ZCC10 5.5 cup model that the Neuro Fuzzy models have 2 extra sensors to also check room and lid temperatures, while the cheaper TSC units just have a sensor on the center post the pot sits on. I haven't been able to confirm the existence or lack of extra sensors independently though.Steam vent cleaning video showing both models -https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UU2Tssa-a-rEEWM5il8cWRuw&feature=player_detailpage&v=aypd1H2h_aA#t=40The biggest difference though between these models though, is that the ZCC has a spherical heating element, which was a pretty big innovation. Spherical heat is an important reason why induction models cook better, so I'd say the ZCC sits between the non-spherical TSC, and spherical induction HBC models. The ZCC Neuro Fuzzy model appears to be the sweet spot in quality and performance for money spent.Better comparison information than what retailers are displaying - http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/how_and_chart/comparison_pdf/Zojirushi%20Rice%20Cooker%20Chart.pdBEGIN Japanology - Rice Cookers - mentions the introduction of spherical induction in the 1980shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KbRRHRbprUAs far as differences in programming between Neuro Fuzzy and Fuzzy Logic models, as the names insinuate, there may be some differences because the Neuro Fuzzy has the extra room and lid temperature sensors. The higher end models, up to the $500 NVC pressure induction units, don't mention Neuro Fuzzy but they likely have these extra sensors too. Fuzzy Logic is something they teach in textbooks, but "Neuro Fuzzy" seems to have been pulled out of nowhere by marketing, so the lack of clear explanation from Zojirushi confusing. It seems to me Zojirushi wanted to differentiate the Japanese made ZCC unit from its less expensive Chinese made cousin, the TSC/TGC, and Neuro Fuzzy was used as a buzzword to help identify the better model at a glance. Especially since ZCC has plain white appearance compared to the TSC. There are no comparable Chinese made versions of the higher end induction units, so the Neuro Fuzzy label is not needed for them. I also suspect the margins on the China made Micom Fuzzy Logic TSC models are good, and Zojirushi doesn't want to upset those sales by touting the spherical heating element or extra sensors on the Neuro Fuzzy ZCC too hard. I ended up ordering ZCC and would recommend spending the extra $20 over the TSC for it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the handle made out of Wood or is it panted |
Answer: | I add about 300ml. water, or almost 10oz. to the reservoir. Remember-these are meant to espresso-size cups...not big 'ol coffee mug size. |
Question: | Is this made in italy |
Answer: | Yes, Italy. |
Question: | I want to know if the handle really melts ? thanks |
Answer: | No. Bought one years ago. Only wash by hand. Doesn’t fade. |
Question: | Is it supposed to have dark spots after first use? I cannot post photos here but there are spots of a different shade after first use. Is it safe |
Answer: | Yes, I use mine on a glass top stove and it works perfectly. I just move it to the edge of the burner to make sure the handle is not directly over the heat. |
