Bialetti is a well-known Italian brand famous for its stovetop espresso makers, particularly the Moka pots. These iconic coffee makers have been a staple in Italian households and around the world for many years. Here's what you should know about Bialetti Italian espresso makers:
Moka Pot Design: Bialetti's Moka pots have a distinctive design consisting of three main parts: a bottom chamber for water, a middle chamber for ground coffee, and a top chamber for the brewed espresso. The Moka pot works by using heat from the stovetop to create pressure, forcing hot water through the coffee grounds and into the top chamber.
History: The Bialetti Moka pot was invented by Alfonso Bialetti in the 1930s and has since become an iconic symbol of Italian coffee culture. Its unique design has remained largely unchanged over the years.
Material: Bialetti Moka pots are typically made of high-quality aluminum, though stainless steel and other materials are also available. Aluminum models are often more affordable and heat up quickly, making them a popular choice among coffee enthusiasts.
Variety of Sizes: Bialetti offers Moka pots in various sizes, ranging from single-cup to 12-cup capacity. This versatility allows users to brew the desired amount of espresso based on their preferences or the number of coffee drinkers in the household.
Ease of Use: Bialetti Moka pots are known for their simplicity. They are easy to use and require no electricity, making them a convenient choice for those who enjoy traditional stovetop coffee brewing.
Maintenance: Maintenance is relatively straightforward. After each use, it's essential to disassemble the Moka pot, rinse it with warm water, and allow it to dry thoroughly. Avoid using soap or abrasive materials on the coffee basket, as this can affect the flavor of future brews.
Flavor Profile: The espresso brewed using a Bialetti Moka pot is known for its rich, bold flavor and aromatic qualities. It's often compared to espresso from traditional espresso machines, though it has its unique characteristics.
Cultural Significance: Bialetti's Moka pots are not only practical coffee makers but also hold cultural significance in Italy. They are associated with the Italian tradition of gathering around the stovetop for a cup of espresso and conversation.
Availability: Bialetti Moka pots are widely available internationally, both in physical stores and online, making them accessible to coffee lovers worldwide.
Bialetti Moka pots are beloved for their ability to brew a strong and flavorful cup of espresso with a simple and timeless design. They continue to be a popular choice for those who appreciate the art of stovetop coffee making and the rich history of Italian coffee culture.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many ounces of coffee does the 3 cup make |
Answer: | There are too many elements involve to keep your espresso staying hot. Assuming you use boiling water, you heated up your provided espresso cup, you sip your espresso right next to camp fire, there is no cold winds blowing at your face, and you drink it quickly - yes it stay warm for the time you have it. |
Question: | Where is it made? Is it made in Italy |
Answer: | Yes, you can foam with this device, it's very simple. |
Question: | Is there any cause for concern when buying a color pot? I wonder about the color fading or chipping off over time |
Answer: | Adding a few "pin holes" at the bottom of the pod with a pin pusher will ensure that the unit will work when the capsule is compressed against the bottom. I have had many capsules not work (but some do) without pre-making the holes in the bottom of the capsule before using. |
Question: | Can you use it on a glass top stove |
Answer: | Yes, it's the only way I've used the Moocoo. Very simple but be sure to use a very fine grind, preferably with a burr grinder. My problem with the Moocoo is that even with preheating all the parts, the coffee coffee comes out warm at best. |

How to make an espresso
- Fill the base with water to just below the level of the safety valve. Be careful not to overfill as the air in the space between the water and the coffee filter is what heats and forces the water up through the coffee. If the water tank is overfilled the result is boiled coffee, with a bitter or burnt taste.
- Insert the funnel.
- Loosely fill the funnel with espresso ground coffee, do not press coffee down.
- Screw the top section firmly to the base.
- Place the coffeemaker on a low to medium heat.
- When using on gas adjust the flame so that it does not extend up the side of the pot.
- It takes only 3 – 6 minutes, depending on the size of the coffeemaker and the intensity of heat, until it’s ready to serve.
- All Bialetti stovetop espresso makers are suitable for use on gas, electric and ceramic hobs. Venus is also suitable for induction.
- Makes 6 espresso cups = appx 12 fl oz total
- Stainless Steel Construction
- Heat resistant and ergonomic bakelite handle with extra wide reach

User questions & answers
Question: | does it work with an induction cooktop |
Answer: | Yes. You put a largish cup under the hot water dispenser and dispense as much hot water as you want (may take a few experiments to get the proportions you like), then put the cup under the coffee dispenser and hit the 'long coffee' button. Very easy and tastes good. Typical Americanos run 2 parts water to 1 part espresso. That's a little strong for me, so I use a little bit more hot water. |
Question: | Is the water supply section polished stainless steel inside? My Venus pot has corroded in the bottom |
Answer: | It heats the water and steam |
Question: | I just got this. The instructions say not to use coffee that is fine ground. I am confused - because expresso is fine ground and this is supposed to |
Answer: | For a top of the line Espresso Maker like the Eletta I sourced a product from an importer called Caffe Vergnano 1882 blend it comes in a 2/3 lb. pack vacuum sealed containers It is the finest medium roast espresso beans I have ever had; it was expensive but puts all other espresso beans in another category. But at $.30 per espresso and a household that consumes a lot of espresso drinks; it is the best value available. Website is www.atalantacorp.com. I had to pick it up at local public warehouse. But after having 3 dinner parties my guests who love their espresso all have purchased the beans and love them. If you prefer dark roasted beans then Illy is very good as is Peet's. |
Question: | How is the handle? It looks a bit "junky"... Does it stay cool? Is it unattractive or ok |
Answer: | Amazon US sells 110v . Maybe try Amazon UK or other European outlet . You would have to contact seller if he sells 220 v option. Mine is 220 volt as I am in Egypt. I love the machine |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it an espresso maker, or is it for making coffee, which one is it |
Answer: | Well it may work but it is not ment for Induction !! People keep answering yes to the question of is this ment for an Induction Cooktop - NO ** The one for Induction Cooktops is- Bialetti 4832 Moka Induction Espresso Maker around $55** Flat Top or Ceramic Cooktops are not the same as Induction Cooktops. This is where some are getting confused and giving out the wrong information. Most Induction cookware has magnetic bottoms. You may have some other pans that will work on a Induction Cooktops but its the Nice magnetic pans that do the good Cooking. The induction Top does not ever get hot to the touch unless the pan is on the surface. Anyways This may work on an Induction surface but it is not ment to they have one for Induction. |
Question: | Want to buy this steel kitty maker for round base. (original bialetti's hard to clean due to shape).if handle breaks, is replacement handle available |
Answer: | Yes it's polished stainless steel inside and out. That's why I bought this model not the iconic shaped aluminum one. If you do buy one be sure to get some extra rubber gaskets though |
Question: | Bialetti espresso makers are by far the best on the market. But can anyone please tell me if the Bialetti Kitty works with induction cooktops |
Answer: | You are correct Espresso is fine ground. I use it all the time without any problems. Just make sure you clean the bottom of the pot (filter) carefully. |
Question: | where is this made? thanks |
Answer: | Handle is great! We've had this for 3 years and have never had an issue with the handle being hot or junky. As Sascha mentioned we grip the body when tightening the top to the bottom *never the handle. Is what most people do not realize is you do not need high heat for these units. If you are heating up your handle, you have your stovetop heat setting far too high! We live in NYC and have had all gas top stoves. Use a medium to low flame. Your espresso will take no longer to make and honestly, taste far better if you cook at a lower temperature +you won't risk burning the coffee or the rubber gasket ;) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the inner cup that holds the coffee aluminum or stainless steel |
Answer: | It is a mocha pot. It makes coffee strong, for small cups. It is low pressure. I like this steel mocha pot. It makes 4 espresso sized cups of mocha coffee. |
Question: | Does this give the same taste as the MOKA expresso aluminum version pot? Thanks |
Answer: | The handle is pretty durable and does not get hot on the stove. I've not had any problems with it. The base is rounded, but generally does not get dirty at all as it only holds water. It is super easy to clean, has not stained, and is very solid. I've loved it so far, all of it is super easy to clean. I have been very pleased and would highly reccomend. |
Question: | Will the stainless steel bialetti work on an induction stove |
Answer: | It may or may not work depending on the induction stove top requirements. This model does not work on even the smallest element of my GE induction range (model PHS920); the bottom surface area of the espresso maker is too small to be detected by the stove top. |
Question: | Is it made from China or original country |
Answer: | This line ( Kitty ) is made in India and only supervised by Bialetti |

Forty years before StarBucks.Treat yourself to some ILY Espresso beans, ground. That is about as good as coffee can getCiao!( sorry, I am only half Italian ) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these fit in the Bialetti Diva |
Answer: | The pot is aluminum, the hazy finish is probably aluminum oxide aka corundum aka sapphire. Its why you want that in all your aluminum cookware because that is what stops the aluminum from leeching out into your food. Its the reason why people always recommend you boil water in a new aluminum pot to get this to form (ie seasoning.) Don't use vinegar or lime-away to remove this beneficial layer! |
Question: | What is the expiration date of these items |
Answer: | Its made of aluminum. |
Question: | Can you describe the taste of these different (or any) Bialetti espresso made from these capsules |
Answer: | 2015 update - if you use Starbuck beans, you can more closely recreate the taste of Starbuck's.A conditional yes, please let me explain why. I should also mention that for years I was a Starbuck's two doppio's a day fanatic. I did find, using Starbuck's beans bought in the smallest quantities for freshness gave me great results in the moka pot. How close you find your satisfaction with the moka pot is really unknown until you work with one and evaluate the results for yourself. That being said, I will share two years of experimentation with the Moka pot, in some details, hopefully without overwhelming you. Keep in mind, if you simply want to put coffee and water in the machine, there is no need to read further. The moka pot is pretty consistent in making a good strong coffee. There are some other variables you can work with, depending on your interest, and motivation. I love espresso and am highly motivated to capturing that elusive finest cup. There are some constants:1. Since the water is a constant (you fill GOOD water to the bottom of the valve), and 2. You fill the basket with ground coffee (and do NOT tamp it down) 3. You heat the pot on very low heat and remove it when the water sound stops and no not let the pot boil. Then there is only one other variable, the grind of the coffee.1. There is only so much ground coffee the basket can hold, so the taste of the coffee will change depending on how fine or coarse the beans are ground. 2. If you are using pre-ground Starbuck's coffee, that would seem like you have it made right? Well, no. Keep in mind Starbuck's uses a big machine and this is a little pot for your home. What I and others have found, is grinding your own fresh beans will maximize the likelihood you are getting the best results. I have moved over to the dark side and got a burr grinder as a gift. Having worked with it for two years, I can attest to the fact I can work with a fine or coarse grind to get great and strong coffee from the Moka pot. Just remember to remove the pot from the heat when you hear the water stops. Leaving it on longer will not make the coffee stronger, it will boil it and most likely make in unpalatable. My preference is for the aluminum pot vs stainless steel and I do NOT wash the pot with any soap. A wipe down with a moist paper towel and leaving it air dry has given me great results after the initial one or two first pots I needed to break in the pot in.Whew on the details here but I am trying to give you an honest explanation of what you can do to get more consistent results for yourself. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this work with benotti |
Answer: | It means 3 espresso shots. The upper chamber of the pot, which holds the coffee, has a capacity of 3/4 of a measuring cup, or 6 ounces. |

Question: | Will this caffe maker work properly in an induction cooker |
Answer: | I have the Mini Express but it does look like the Diva uses the same capsules. BTW we love our Bialetti and these capsules make a delicious cup of espresso! http://www.bialetti.com/www.bialetti.com/coffee/capsule-system/diva-c-1_5_58.html |
Question: | Why is water left in the base after making coffee? Almost half the water does not come up to the top |
Answer: | Usually the expiration is one year. But the one I got is already expired, beware. |
Question: | I received this moka pot as a gift. Despite tightening it firmly, it shoots steam from the center seam instead of making coffee. Is this defective |
Answer: | Each of the espresso capsule boxes lists its flavor. They range from bold to mild. I personally find the bolder flavors more bitter so the Milano (mild) is my favorite. All in all, the espresso from these capsules is as authentic tasting as you can get without going to a coffee shop. I've not found any other capsules that work with the Bialetti machine but that's not a problem for me. |
Question: | where made |
Answer: | I'm not familiar with Benotti so I can't provide an accurate answer. Best of luck |
