User questions & answers

Question: I have since coffee grind on the outside glass stuck between the glass and bottom part: how to clean without breaking the glass
Answer: Yes, there is plastic as you are pouring it out. Good question.
Question: Last I checked, 4 cups is 32 oz. Why does it say this is an 8 cup (34 oz) coffee maker
Answer: Yes it is, I have put it in the dishwasher multiple times and had no issues. You can also remove the glass from the metal part which is good
Question: How is this model different from the standard bodum 12-oz press with the metal holder which is twice the price
Answer: Not single cup. This is a large french press for 34oz. A standard coffee mug is 8 - 10 oz. so, depending on the size of your mug, you could get 3-4 cups out of this.
Question: Is it made by glass
Answer: There is a tiny label on the box that says "Made in PRC" which stands for Peoples Republic of China. Müller is an Austrian company who has their products manufactured in China.

User questions & answers

Question: Where is this French Prench made in
Answer: probably cant use paper alone, would slip into pot with weight combination of grounds and water. but dont use paper, just use the provided metal/plastic filter, otherwise youll take away all those tasty coffee oils.
Question: The product description says the carafe is made of glass but a lot of the customer reviews say plastic. Which is it
Answer: It's a little strange and confusing, but coffee is measured in 4 oz cups instead of 8 oz cups. As the description states, this coffee maker holds 34 oz, which is 8.5 4-oz cups. Most coffee mugs are 10-16 oz, so most people will only get 2-3 "cups" of coffee out of one 34 oz pot.
Question: Can the glass beaker be easily removed from the base? thank you
Answer: Use COARSE grind, use more or less to taste (experiment is best)! >DO NOT use a paper filter, as this captures the essential oils that make the coffee more flavorful. Pour a small amount of water over the grounds to just wet. Wait 15-30 sec. -It will "puff up" the grounds, THEN pour the rest of the water slowly. Also it is important to use filtered water heated to (about) 177 degrees. (Boiled water will scorch giving you a bitter taste).
Question: Already broken. I've only had this for 2 months and the plastic part that holds the filter together is broken. Can I send this back for a better one
Answer: The mesh is stainless but it does not do a good job of filtering the finer sediment. It also always the water to drain to quickly.

Bodum Bean Cold Brew Coffee Maker, Press, Plastic, 1.5 Liter, 51 Ounce, Black

Bodum

Product description

The French press Coffee system is what Bodum is most known for. We've produced millions of presses; we've added more designs, more sizes, more features like double wall glass and a lid that closes completely between pours. As far as we were concerned, we knew everything there was to know about the French press. So imagine our surprise when a customer tells us they've discovered the best way to make ice Coffee with a French press. We've tried it their way and we have to agree - it's fabulous. And simple - which fits our philosophy perfectly. So here's how it goes: first you put the ground Coffee in the jug as usual. Then you add cold water and put the jug in the fridge overnight. In the morning you press down the plunger - et voila - you have the most smooth tasting ice Coffee you can imagine. Enjoy it Black or with milk and let yourself be surprised. The bean comes with two lids: one for the fridge overnight and one with a plunger to press down the Coffee grounds in the morning. The 1. 5 L bean ice Coffee maker is made from plastic, silicone and stainless steel.

  • Innovative locking lid system keeps your Coffee hot or cold and helps prevent spills
  • Includes two lids; one for the fridge overnight, and one with plunger
  • No paper filters required, means more flavor without any waste
  • Dishwasher safe
  • BPA free plastic

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone been able to purchase the flat lid as a replacement? I melted mine
Answer: I was wondering too! The one I am replacing was bought from Amazon Jan. 2015. It stated Poland on the Glass, but nothing on the plastic. Now they all seem to state Portugal on the glass portion. I like the BODUM embossed plastic frame, but it is an older model with the flat top and D handle. Even Bodum does updates.
Question: How long does the coffee last in the fridge after making
Answer: Beaker is glass. The handle and the part that the beaker fits into is plastic.
Question: What's the advantage of this plastic press over the Bodum 51-ounce "Brazil" glass French press, which costs less and can do both hot and cold brew
Answer: I had the other Brazil version. I was able to remove the beaker. VERY CAREFUL, it is in there tight. SOAP and warm water, you should get some movement from it. I wouldn't recommend removing the beaker unless you really have to clean it. If you don't feel comfortable removing the beaker, then I wouldn't.
Question: How much coffee to I add to make a full pot of cold brew coffee
Answer: It is sad, isn't it, that some misguided bean counter at Bodun decided to earn a bonus by replacing a sturdy, metal piece (like my 30 year old Bodun has) with that ridiculous piece of plastic; saving, what? Two cents worth? Well, that was mine. I will take another commenter's advice and be gentle. It is informative that the elaborate pictures in the description do not show this particular piece; apparently they know.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have writing on the glass? Is it actually a Bodum original glass
Answer: The person that asked this question probably already got a lid replacement however, anyone else that has found themselves in the same situation, I was going to suggest that if you need a lid just go to Walmart and buy a whole new one for less than 10 bucks before tax -they also sell it on their online store for 3 dollars more.
Question: Will the 12oz glass replacement fit a Melior French
Answer: Mine doesn’t last long because I drink up too fast, but as long as you keep it refrigerated I’d say it’ll last a couple weeks or longer!! I have two pots so when one is finished I’m making another!! Add your favorite liquid creamer and you’ll never buy those high dollar over sweet cold coffees again!!
Question: What is the inside diameter (ID) measurement of the holder? Measurements for the beaker itself are moot, when you cannot measure a shattered beaker
Answer: No advantage, can use both for hot or cold press. I purchased this one because at the time the tan colored one was sale priced at $13
Question: Can someone tell me why buying only a replacement beaker and screen costs just as much as buying a brand new coffee press? Where's the logic in that
Answer: Most people find you need to add more coffee grounds to cold brew than if making hot coffee. I usually use somewhere around 40oz of water and 1 cup of ground coffee to make it the proper strength. If you use the classic 1 table spoon per cup you will end up with a very weak product that is closer to tea than coffee.

Product description

No other coffee maker has fascinated passionate coffee drinkers like the Pebo (former Santos). Its exceptionally effective vacuum brewing method extracts all precious oils of your favorite coffee. The vacuum brewing process is entirely sealed off so no aroma can escape. In addition, the brewing time and temperature are perfectly calibrated, ensuring a perfect cup of coffee with each brew. Monitor the eye-catching brewing process through the two firmly attached glass bowls! Depending on the amount of water used, the Pebo (former Santos) can brew delicious coffee within 5 to 11 minutes, serving anywhere from 4 to 8 cups (0. 5l/10 ounces, max. 1. 0l/34 ounces).

As beautiful as sculpture, as fascinating as chemistry, and as entertaining as theater, this coffeemaker from Switzerland converts the ordinary process of brewing coffee into an artful performance. And it makes six 5-ounce cups of full-flavored coffee while it entrances. The coffeemaker fits together like this: water goes into the carafe, a filter fits into the mouth of a tube in the top globe, ground coffee goes into the globe (a scoop is included), the globe fits atop the carafe with the tube extending into the carafe, and the carafe goes onto the stovetop with a trivet or heat diffuser between it and electric or gas heat. (This is all much simpler and quicker than it sounds.)

Water boils up through the tube into the globe and brews the coffee. When brewing is complete and the carafe has been taken off the stovetop and set into its accompanying sculpted trivet, the coffee drains through the filter into the carafe. The globe can then be lifted off the carafe and set on its stand, and coffee can be poured from the carafe, which has a stay-cool handle. A stopper for the carafe keeps second cups warm while the first cups are sipped. Fully assembled, the coffee maker stands 11-1/2 inches high. It's made of heat-resistant glass and durable, gleaming nylon, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

User questions & answers

Question: Since there is no cover for the upper chamber, does this cause splashing of coffee out of the pot as it bubbles up
Answer: Yes, the replacement glass is made and labeled by Bodum. Way cheaper than a whole new press. This is probably the 4th replacement I have purchased for my French press purchased about 15 years ago.
Question: Why aren't replacment parts available
Answer: Hello and thanks for asking ... as my answer will save you a lot of grief and dollars. Even Bodum coffee presses are different sizes. I ordered this Beeker and it was too wide at the bottom to fit. The company, when contacted, told me that I had to pay the postage back PLUS a 25% restocking fee. It wasn't worth the effort or cost. I would never purchase from this company again. I hope that my answer has helped you. perhaps if you contacted the company that made your press ... they could supply you with the correct replacement . :)
Question: what exactly is the difference between the SANTOS and PEBO
Answer: Per tape measure: height 7 in. diameter 4 1/2 inches. I hope that helps.
Question: Is there a plastic filter in this product
Answer: Yeah I won't buy this carafe for more than the whole press assembly will cost me. I was looking for a metal nut to replace the plastic one that comes with the Bodum Brazil 51oz that stripped on mine. Turns out the larger cold brew press comes with a metal one which I was able to switch out with the plastic from the Brazil. Apparently the plastic isn't dishwasher safe. But for 20 bucks just get a new press. Crazy

Do you have 4 minutes?

The French press coffee maker is the simplest of all brewing systems, where coarsely ground beans meet hot water right off the boil. The right temperature (92–96 °C, 195–205 °F) brings the optimal extraction power for the essential oils in the beans to develop their full flavor profile in just four minutes. An easy press on the plunger locks the grinds at the bottom of the glass carafe and stops the brewing process.

Java French Press Collection

The Java coffee maker incorporates the Bodum's motto beautifully: good design doesn't have to be expensive. Just hot water and ground coffee is all that's needed. And that's all that coffee lovers are left with too, no waste, just taste.

Step 1

For each 4-ounce cup, put 1 rounded tablespoon or 1 Bodum scoop of coarse-ground coffee into the pot.

Step 2

Pour hot (not boiling) water into the pot. Leave a minimum of 1 inch of space at the top. Stir with a plastic spoon.

Step 3

Place the plunger unit on top of the pot. Turn lid to close off the pour spout opening. Do not press down. Let the coffee brew for 4 minutes.

Step 4

After 4 minutes press down the plunger and enjoy.

Product description

Designed in honor of the great Irish designer Eileen Gray, as well as all Coffee lovers who frequent the bistros and cafes of paris—gray’s adopted City. Bode classic Eileen French press makes a stylish addition to any tabletop decor. Perfect for gifting and entertaining.

The Eileen coffee press is a tribute to designer Eileen Gray and is built to withstand the rigors and crowds of a cafe in Paris--the city that Gray loved most. Bodum instills quality craftsmanship in this press and the result, according to coffee purists, is a brewing machine that produces a superior taste and aroma to any electric coffeemaker. The secret is that the grounds are able to steep in boiling water for about four minutes before they are pressed with the plunger, producing a richer, full-bodied flavor.

The heat-resistant glass carafe on this Eileen model holds a maximum of 32 ounces or 8 cups of brewed coffee or tea, making it a useful size for all-day-long drinkers. The stainless-steel frame encases the carafe and protects it from breakage while still allowing coffee drinkers to see their rich coffee through the slotted design. The santoprene-coated square-shaped handle provides a firm grip on the press while pouring and the stainless-steel lid and plunger are durable and will hold up to years of brewing. For easy cleaning, the carafe and all its parts go right into the dishwasher. Replacement parts are available from the manufacturer. --Cristina Vaamonde

User questions & answers

Question: Do you heat the water in coffeemaker? Does this go on the stove top
Answer: Yes! This Bodum Java Coffee maker is 100% BPA Free
Question: Is the glass secure in the decorative metal or does it fall out easily
Answer: Not that I know of, but most plastic when exposed to cold temps can get brittle. Have you been using it for cold brew in the fridge? Other than that, perhaps just a flaw in this particular one, sometimes that does happen.
Question: is there any plastic inside? thanks
Answer: The one you’re looking at is just a press. The mugs can be purchased from Bodum; which is probably why there is an image of it. Also, I would not buy the plastic bodum carafe holder - go with the metal. The plastic breaks easily.
Question: ive seen in some reviews that the metal part actually rusts? also, where is this product made in? thanks a lot
Answer: Chrome or plastic? Upload a photo, send to Bodum.

Glass beaker

French press coffee makers feature a durable borosilicate beaker. Borosilicate glass is an outstanding material: It is ultra-light and strong, has great heat resistant properties, and will not get cloudy in the dishwasher.

Spiral plate

The spiral plate keeps the filter mesh in place and makes sure that water goes through but no ground coffee. The flexible spiral provides a universal fit taking into account the manufacturing tolerances of glass jugs.

Mesh

The filter mesh is a key component to the Bodum coffee makers. It separates the ground coffee beans from the water after the brewing has stopped.

Cross plate

The cross plate holds the mesh in place together with the spiral plate.

Product description

In terms of excellent coffee brewing, manual labor is more popular than ever - that is if pressing a plunger can be qualified as manual labor. The French press lets the coffee beans develop their fullest aroma so it doesn’t come as a surprise that it is the brewing method of choice for coffee tasters trying to determine quality beans. User questions & answers

Question: Any idea where I can get a replacement glass carafe
Answer: You heat your water in a pot on the stove first. Now that said, my parents have a water cooler that has both cold and hot water dispensers. It's pretty close to boiling but not enough if you ask me when it comes to making coffee correctly. Because our stove top has all small burners, we purchased the Cuisinart PerfecTemp Cordless Programmable Kettle. This thing boils water in about a minute vs. our gas stove top burner which takes almost 10min. So to conclude, DO NOT put the French Press on the stove! Grind your beans in burr grinder first and dump into press. Boil water wherever else you prefer and pour in when it is boiling! I feel water at 212*F really releases the aroma from the bean best. Hope it helps. Also, we do not use that French Press anymore as it poorly designed. Looks great, but failure to launch. There is no screw that you can tighten the metal sleeve with so the glass beaker tends to slip out. No es bueno. I would strongly suggest you go with the original bodum french press. Question: I received the Bodum 34 oz press with the locking lid, and manual is unclear: Can you tell me how to lock and unlock the lid? Thanks
Answer: The glass is separate and is not secure, but it doesn't fall out easily, you can pour the coffee normally.
Question: Does Bodum model 11172-16 come with a double walled beaker
Answer: There is no plastic "inside" which comes in contact with the coffee. The lid (top cover) does have plastic, and when pouring coffee it would contact this plastic piece.
Question: Can you make iced coffee also
Answer: I've had mine for 2 years and there's not a speck of rust anywhere on. When it needs to be cleaned I just wipe it with a wet paper towel. I do not submerge it in water be and i do not use any chemicals on it. Maybe that makes a difference? Bodum's international headquarters have been located in Switzerland since 1978. All of their items made from borosilicate glass (a high-heat tolerant, anti-shatter glass, used in chemistry labs the world over), or items where that type of glass is a component of the whole, e.g., the carafe that's a part of the overall French press, are manufactured in China.

Product description

Chambord is a true original - the classic French press coffee maker designed in the fifties. And Bodum is still producing it with the same painstaking craftsmanship used way back when with the original. The frame and lid, made of steel, undergo several chrome plating processes to obtain a durable shiny surface that will last for many years of intense use. The only difference in the production process since the fifties is Bodum's commitment to the highest standards of environmentally correct manufacturing, which is especially important during the chrome plating process. User questions & answers

Question: Is it compatible with US electricity (110V
Answer: Once the hot water is inside, place the plunger/lid inside the container and then rotate it so it locks into position.
Question: Where is this product made
Answer: No. It's single-walled glass. Excellent coffee, but take care you don't press so hard as to crack the glass.
Question: The beaker is plastic or glass?...at Bodum website it says that this model is plastic, is it correct
Answer: I use my French press almost exclusively to make cold brew ice coffee, and nothing beats it! I put in cold water with a ratio of 1/4 cup of coffee to 1 cup of water. Let it sit overnight (10 to 12 hours), push down the plunger, pour into carafe, and add equal parts water (if you end up with 3 cups of coffee, add 3 cups of cold water). You'll be converted after the first cup.
