It has nothing to do with the amount of water or the lid too tight. Actually the lid on the one we purchased was the same as to it's fit. Something is wrong with the construction of this brand and it's too bad. West Bend has always been so reliable in the past.

They said if you cannot see a clock on the front of the coffee maker, then it won't have an auto shutoff. I sent it back since I know I will often forget to shut it off.
