HOW TO INSTALL THE VELIMAX WINDOW FILM?

3 TIPS BEFORE YOU START:

• A small utility knife with breakaway blades is the best tool for trimming film. Film can dull a blade edge quickly; and a dull blade can tear film.
• Fill a spray bottle with a soapy water solution: to 1qt. bottled water, add 1/4 tsp of liquid soap. Avoid using concentrated or degreasing detergents. If you can't find proper liquid soap, the clean water is also OK for the solution.
• Remove any caulk, paint or glue debris that may be stuck to the window.

8 STEPS OF THE INSTALLATION:

1. Measure and record the dimensions the target glass.
2. Clean the glass thoroughly.
3. Add 1+ inch on every side when cutting the film so you have excess film to trim away.
4. Peel off the backing liner.
5. Generously spray the soapy water both on the glass and the window film.
6. Place the film on the wet glass, adjust the position of the window film.
7. Using a plastic squeegee or card, begin squeegeeing the water and air out from under the film.
8. Trim excess material away with a VERY sharp razor or craft knife, leaving a 1/16” wide gap around the edges of the film.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

• 1. How to deal with the air bubbles?

Use a hard plastic squeegee or any plastic card to squeegee air bubbles and water. If you find it's hard to get rid of the bubbles, uncover the window film, spray more water between the glass and the film and squeegee firmly again. Water will make it much easier to remove bubbles.

• 2. Why the film fall off after a while?

Please confirm if you have removed the liner, trimmed the edges or squeegeed excess water and bubbles.

• 3. Can I remove the film at a later stage?

Absolutely. Our blackout film is removable and reusable. You can just simply peel the film off the glass in seconds with no mess.

Answer:	Did you use this film and find out that the remote beams DO penetrate the film?

Answer:	I have used for my car windows in summer and I never even considered using any type of solution to apply. I put it on and took it off all the time - almost every day. There is no need for a solution except to make it appear less bubbles? I would just roll it up and throw it in the trunk. Once in a while I had to wipe it down and dry it with 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils or dust which keep it from sticking well. It’s totally permanently reusable if you do this. You can make front windows 5% and use them only when parked. The real value of this static stuff is removability. Forget the spray and soap etc if you are going to use it this way. Maybe in an apartment but that’s it.

Answer:	That is exactly what we are using it for. Yes, with very little effort, it does come off. I also left a some extra along the side to make it even easier to take down. Also, make sure you use either the Gila Solution or a baby shampoo/water mixture when you put it on the window. Good luck.

Answer:	The only thing I see when I stand outside my window is the light and if you walk right in front of window you can tell its a person but not very clearly. If I had neeighbors I would not rely on it for total privacy at night. During the day you cant see inside at all.

Step 1: Clean the target surface of the window, make sure no stain is left.

Step 2: Measure the width and the height of the target area, cut the film and leave an extra 2-3 cm on each side for easier adjustment.

Step 3: Peel off the transparent film.

Step 4: Spray A LOT OF soapy water onto both the window surface and the backside of the static film.

Step 5: Paste the wet side of the film onto the wet glass, smooth the film with hands.

Step 6: Use the squeegee to remove extra water and bubbles from the center to the around with proper strength.

1. Before pasting, remember to tear off the protective film.

4. If you want to remove it, simply peel the window film from any corner. It comes off cleanly without residue.

Answer:	You can see thru this film even though it is dark. True privacy film that guarantees that you will not see through does exist. I purchased some for 1 of the rooms in my home.

Answer:	I tested with an IR thermometer against a tinted and untinted window next to each other in the sun. The window glass with the tint stayed around 112F regardless of outside temperature while the window without the tint varied with the outside temperature 90F - 98F. The frame on both windows was 135F. There is not much difference. There is a significant difference in the temperature of the sun hitting the floor between the two windows. The sun hitting the floor through the tinted window is diffused and room temperature. The floor hit by the sun through the untinted window is hot.

Answer:	Hello! What appeared as your question to me was, you have two small windows 22' x 22'. Did you mean 22 FEET X 22 FEET as implied by what I received or 22 INCHES x 22 INCHES? Let us assume that you meant 22 inches x 22 inches, since these would be SMALL windows. Yes, one roll would do you fine with lots left over, since the roll is 3 FEET x 15 FEET. As an example, each roll would provide enough material to cover TWO standard sized patio doors (35"x84").Now, if you really meant 22 feet x 22 feet, this would require some expert installation work as we are talking about absolutely HUGE picture windows. My guess is you meant 22inches x 22inches.You could do two more regular windows (30"x60") with what is left over. I hope that this helped you.

Answer:	No reflection but I couldn't get it to stick to my windows. As soon as it dried it fell off. I had to return it. They were nice.

Answer:	Once the film is installed the only way to remove it is with a razor blade. It scrapes off without too much trouble. It's a lot like the tint on a car window, once it's installed it's really stuck after 24 hours.

Answer:	Hello!! I called gila on this same question. They told me the platinum was designed specifically for the Home Depot chain. And it may be sold other places like amazon or independent sellers. The gila rep told me that the only difference in all heat control film is one blocks like 93 percent of UVA and UVB rays, and the platinum blocks like 95 percent, she said ultimately there is no difference in performance except the platinum because of it'sColor , blocks out a couple more percentage points of sun rays. But I personally recommend the platinum this stuff is so cool! I live in a 2 story condo and my kitchen window faces the parking lot, I like to people watch and see what's going on out there, In the daytime, this stuff is a high gloss silver mirror to those on the outside, and I can stand and gawk and stare out the window at people and nobody knows I'm even looking at them! It's a great color, and provides great heat reduction! I highly recommend it..

Question:	Is it possible to install this tint on top of another tint? Or do I have to remove the old one
Answer:	yes, you can install this over existing film. However, we do not recommend it.
Question:	Will this allow my cat to bird watch without scaring away the birds? The ones sold for that purpose are tiny and impractical and ridiculously expensive ($10 for a 8" by 14" panel
Answer:	This is exactly why I wanted to buy it too. I recently got a birdhouse and about a dozen birds visit, but my cat scares them away. He has become very disappointed they don't visit anymore. Did this work for you?
Question:	Do you have any installation instruction available? Does 5% pass 5% of the light or reflect/reject 5% of the light

Answer:	It VERY clearly describes this in the product description. During day: you see out. They don't see in. During night: They see in. You don't see out. Pulled straight from the description: "As mentioned above, the side with the most amount of light will become the “mirror”! Therefore, the effect of any reflective, privacy enhancing window film will greatly depend on the lighting conditions. This is why the privacy-effect works so well during the day, and almost not at all at night since the sun usually makes the exterior of your building much, much brighter than the interior."
