Answer:	Each side of the frame is solid wood. It appears to be a soft wood, which has a stain finish. I do not know when this product appeared on Amazon. Please note that Burnes of Boston was purchased by another company, so you will not receive a Burnes of Boston product.

Answer:	It sounds like you would need a 12" x 18" frame. These frames are not suited to hold stretched canvas.
