User questions & answers
Question: | Can the snooze feature be turned off |
Answer: | I don't know. I would not recommend any of the Westclox models. I know that I had this one and it was not sturdy at all. It was kept in a suit jacket pocket for one day and started to come apart. I have had a really nice travel alarm clock, similar to this, but Amazon doesn't sell them anymore. It was another major name in clocks (maybe SEIKO) but where the brand name was printed, on the clock, the name has worn off and I can't remember what brand it is. I still have it. I pulled it out, after not seeing it since this coronavirus bull, started, and it has kept perfect time, stashed away in a pocket, for the past three months. You don't want anything where all of the buttons are on the front of the clock - any buttons that need to be pressed should be inside the case, otherwise, if it's not secured, tightly, in your luggage, things will be touching up against those buttons and changing the time and triggering the alarm along with other unintended consequences. There's a Braun travel alarm clock, that is not digital (standard clock face), but which keeps very good time and all of its controls are on the inside of its case so nothing unintended can happen when it's packed away in your luggage. I had a Braun but lost it. Good Luck! There's got to be something decent out there that will work for your needs. |
Question: | Can you turn it of when not using it to preserve battery |
Answer: | No, you have to remove the battery. I do not like having a button type battery in this clock. I don't necessarily always have that particular type battery around and may not be able to obtain one. If the battery goes dead you have to find that type of battery. I cruise a lot and have no way to get that battery in foreign countries. I guess I could always have one on hand but that is difficult and impractical. If the clock were powered by a AAA or AA type battery it would be easy to keep one available. More than you asked, sorry. |
Question: | Is it always lit up or only when you press the button |
Answer: | Only when you press the button. However, I would STRONGLY advise anyone considering buying this clock to reconsider. It's poorly designed. It MIGHT work OK if you never have to put it in your pocket. For me, after three days, the battery (it uses a single watch battery), because of the poor design of the battery compartment and, particularly, the battery compartment door, had repeatedly become dislodged from the battery contacts inside the clock. As a result, you must constantly be resetting this clock and cannot count on it as a time source. If you want something that works without a lot of muss and fuss, I would recommend, instead, the Elgin Clock also sold through Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Elgin-3502E-Travel-Alarm-Clock/dp/B000LSCKPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457798446&sr=8-1&keywords=elgin+travel+alarm+clock ). The Elgin Clock is very reliable. The only times where it has reset or lost time, have been one or two times when I have accidentally dropped the clock. Even considering that fact, that when it has been dropped from a distance of four to five feet onto concrete or hard ground, the only damage, I have been able to determine, other than the expected scuffs and scratches, is that the time was knocked out (I think, to either 12:00 or 1:00 - it has been awhile since that last happened), and it needed to be reset. Other than that, the Elgin clock has kept very precise time (uses a single "AAA" battery) and has caused no unexpected or unwanted distress. The Westclox clock caused me nothing but distress and frustration as it constantly could not be counted on as a time source and constantly needed to be reset. I got rid of the Westclox clock after three days, ordered the Elgin clock, which came a few days later and have never looked back. Forget the Westclox clock and save yourself some frustration and dissatisfaction. Oh, and the Elgin only lights up when you pride its button, but it DOES light up with a very bright and easily readable bright blue light - not a waste of money like the Westclox. |
Question: | can the time display be set to military time |
Answer: | It can be set to 12 hour or 24 hour if that what you are asking. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the alarm loud |
Answer: | The alarm is not particularly loud but it is piercing and it gets me out of bed relatively quickly. |
Question: | Several reviewers complained that the light is worthless. Is the light adequate to see the time in a dark room |
Answer: | The light is not adequate. You must look closely at the time to be able to read it in the dark and this is even worse if you are being awakened by the alarm. |
Question: | How long does the alarm sound before it shuts itself off |
Answer: | I'm sorry but I have no idea. I gave this as a gift to my husband. This is a great clock for several reasons. One reason: It is a small light weight clock but large enough to read from a distance. We had the exact same clock for years until he left it in a hotel room. Never had any problems with our first clock. I would buy another in a minute. |
Question: | is battery included |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with battery. (Not a standard cylindrical battery but one of those little disc-type batteries.) |
Question: | what kind of battery |
Answer: | Type 303/357 battery |
Question: | dimensions |
Answer: | 2.25 High x 2.25 Wide x 1.25 Deep, - 0.0625 inches on each dimension |
Question: | Why would a small plastic clock like this weigh 4.5 lbs. as stated in the description |
Answer: | It might, some way, reach 4.5 pounds with lots of wrapping for shipment!! Mine came with airbag protection in the box holding the product package. The clock weighs only a few ounces, very few ounces! |
Question: | is clock battery operated |
Answer: | By the way, I have had this clock now for several months, if not a year, and I have not had to change its battery even though I press the light button several times a night to see what time it is when I wake up. It's a great little clock and I love it. |
Question: | is it silent? or does it have the dreaded tick tock tick tock sound |
Answer: | Yes, it does have the tick tock sound. You can hear the second hand ticking off each second. We use it for a clock in our bathroom so we don't notice it very much, but if you are using it for travel, then it may annoy you. |
