Answer:	I just received the Sunrise Clock and it IS possible to turn the time display all the way off. It has NORMAL, DIM and OFF settings. It is controlled by a button on the right side of the clock. When all the lights are in the OFF position you might think the unit is not plugged in. That is how completely, 100% dark it gets.

Answer:	I have had the same problem. It does not seem to light automatically in the dark room, which is what I wanted. If I push the top right "Button" it lights for a few seconds but that is all.

When you do this, you will be able to see the display, but it is not bright enough to be a nightlight. When you hit the snooze button on the top it does light up quite brightly, but that only stays on for 10 seconds.

Also, I thought the colors could be changed daily to be kept on until the next day. There is a warning in the instructions that if you keep the lights on it will quickly drain the batteries. I'm adult and I shut down. I couldn't imagine giving this to a child. Hope this helps.
