Living in Florida, we don't get much cold weather but some of us still want a fireplace, even if it's only for aesthetics. This unit checks off boxes: beautiful, functional, and warms a rather large living space. I built a custom surround that I literally just finished. Since posting photos on social media chronicling the process and end result, I've been asked to build others. Rather than say no, I forwarded links to this fireplace insert and instructions I used to build the surround.

Very pleased. It looks great, was easy to install and puts out a good amount of heat. I read other reviews about the noise and remote not working but this was not the case for me. Its quiet and the remote works, you just have to push pretty hard on the buttons. The flame is satisfying as far as how real it looks

I bought this unit for one of my customers that I did a built-in bookcase fireplace combination I was a little concerned about how good the quality. wow what a great solid unit this was my only concern is if they lost the remote control there would be no way to turn it on or off it only came with one about the size of a book of matches hopefully it will work well into the future other than the remote control great unit I'm really happy

We bought this to heat up a drafty living room. Our fireplace doesn’t work, but the inside of it is painted black. We put this unit inside the fireplace and with its black frame, it looks great, and produces enough heat to take the chill off (we live in Southern California, it really is just the chill of a 50 degree evening, not a snow storm). We originally plugged it into a surge protector that had several other things in it and we blew a fuse. We plugged it in it’s own surge protector and outlet and haven’t had that issue again.

Answer:	If by top you mean what is behind the top lip that is usually (in my case it is) covered by the credenza to which it was inserted. This is not meant to be a stand alone heater but is to be inserted into a cabinet. Any other area I would definitely not paint due to heat.

Answer:	Since the insert has a heating option you do need to ensure the wall is properly ventilated and insulated with heat-resistant insulation to prevent heat buildup from the heater and the cabinet getting too hot, which could cause the unit to "burn out" or cause a fire. As with the range top for a stove, you should have some type of vent installed above the unit to allow any heat from the unit to escape the wall.

Answer:	I recessed mine in a stone surround. I live in Florida, so don't really use it for heating.
Question:	Can you recess this fireplace in to cabinetry
Answer:	The framing opening size is the opening you wish to install the insert into. A fireplace is constructed in two ways. The old traditional way is the hearth (the inside of the fireplace) is made of all brick where air is taken from the room and sent up the chimney with the ash and smoke. The other way is like mine and that is there is a 1/8th inch thick steel insert inside the fireplace that covers all the walls with the special fire bricks installed for the floor. It also requires vents for airflow in the brick facing of the fireplace that would have to be filled in if you use the insert to prevent loss of room air up the chimney. Some people wish to install the insert inside an existing wall and build a mantle around the insert. You must measure you opening correctly or you will get the wrong model insert and have to return it for the correct one, which takes additional time from the final result. Some hearths are even with the floor or raised ledge (because some fireplaces are set a foot or so above the main floor) while some hearths, like mine, has a 1" or 2" inch ledge (difference) between the surface to the front of the fireplace and the actual floor of the hearth. My insert fit perfectly from the ledge built in front of my fireplace to the top of the opening with no gap while I had a 2" inch gap to each side of the insert. I drilled into the brick, used 3 1/2" inch concrete screws, cut a recess hole in the wood so the screws would not protrude from the wood, and screwed the wood to the brick on each side and the bottom (to fill that 2" inch drop to the hearth floor), and then used door/window caulking to fill in all gaps between the wood and the surrounding surface. I then purchased the special insulation used for a fireplace in case the cabinet to the insert gets hot while using the heater and installed it on all corners so when I pushed the insert in the insulation rested against the back of the cabinet facing thereby insulating the gap around the cabinet. The 2x4 I installed to fill the lip between the hearth floor and the ledge permitted the base of the cabinet to rest on a solid surface. Before I installed that 2x4 I inserted the insert and the cabinet base would tilt slightly outward because there was not a flat surface for the base to rest on. I also removed the handles so I would not have any unnecessary gap to each side of the cabinet. Further, since I have an electrical outlet 5 feet to the left of my fireplace, I cut out the wall, drilled through the wood, brick, cement, and steel, installed an electrical wire, and installed an outlet to the upper rear of the hearth so the cabinet would not be obstructed when I inserted it and I could plug in the unit to hid the cord. You do not need any mounting brackets, screws, or other material to secure or mount the cabinet into an opening whether it is a fireplace or a wall as long as the opening is square and level.

Answer:	The glass in the back is mirrored near the wood area and fades to black near the top. It has a real appearance. I’m very happy with the product.
Question:	can anyone tell me how many logs are in the DF12310 model and size of logs are they really tiny logs or realistic
Answer:	No they aren't tiny logs. The thing that I noticed was not the size of the logs, but the way they make them look more realistic is by using a mirror behind the logs which creates a 3D effect.I While it does look more realistic, It detracts from the realism to see a that there is a mirror behind the logs. I resolved this by putting up black mesh curtains in front of the unit. I also know that Dimplex makes a front piece (not cheap) that would look even better. Check it out. Even having stated some problems, I appreciate having the visual of burning logs.
Question:	How wide is this
Answer:	Just fits in my 28" wide fireplace, but the dimensions must be online. It is so realistic that people actually think we have a fire going. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem to put out a lot of heat but is a good backup for our regular heat.

Answer:	Very simple fix. Unplug first! Take the front facia plate off (4 Philips screws). Pull out the log insert and disconnect the connector so you can take it out completely. Inside you will see the reflecting bar with a bunch of little chrome tabs. When these rotate it's what makes the flame random. That bar is easily bent and causes a hump in the middle that makes the tabs hit the bottom when it rotates, thus the noise. There really no way to straighten it completely because of the way it goes in. Plus to replace the bulbs you have to move the bar, which will bend it anyway. You could trim the tabs but I found it easier to just bend them about an 1/8 of an inch. Honestly I did this on my dining room table with it plugged it. Its safe as long as you disconnect the log wire while it's plugged in. Then you can bend a few tabs, turn it on, see if any are still hitting and rinse/repeat as needed. The bonus is I find the flicker is even more realistic after bending them. Hope this helps.
