If you look on your electric bill, you can find what the rate for electricity is where you live. Let's say it is $.15 /kWh. For every hour the 4 ft. heater is on, it costs you 15 cents. If it's on for a total of 8 hours/day, that's $1.20/day........or about $36/month. One advantage of this heater (hydronic) is that it provides a more uniform level of heat as it cycles on & off. It doesn't cost any more or less to operate that any other electrical heater. It just depends on how long it is on and your electricity rate. |

| Answer: | I have used it almost every night for about 12 hours per day, every day, at the highest heat setting and with the oscillation motor running for over 5 years. It started to make a humming whine a couple days ago, but still functioned normally otherwise. I just took the back cover off for the first time (it's held on by 5 torx screws and two clear plastic stickers) and used a tiny hose/brush attachment on my handheld vacuum (the kind I usually use to clean electronics, like keyboards) and pair of long, bent-tip tweezers (used to apply individual fake eyelashes or thread overlock sewing machines) to clean out all the dust and fur from inside the heater. Especially reach inside the cylindrical fan at the center from the top and bottom cups to pick the clumps out and vacuum brush the curved fins. Be careful not to remove all the grease on the bottom plate, or if you do have to wipe some off to get the dust, you can replace it with your own, fresh machine grease. I put the cover back on and plugged it in. Now, it works like it was brand new, no strange noises, and it's putting out a lot more heat and pushing it further around the room like it used to when it was brand new. I have bought two other space heaters since I bought this one. The Vornado literally melted itself with a few months and the Crane had to be rewired after a couple months, is weak, has no tipover protection, and can only heat a small closet or bathroom. This Lasko is the best space heater I have ever owned or used I would highly recommend it to anyone. |

| Answer: | Pauline - I'm an Energy Conservation Engineer. Electric heaters in general are 100% efficient. In other words, 100% of the power that goes into it is converted to heat - except for what it takes to power the fan and the oscillation of the unit. However, fans like this use an extremely small amount of power for the fan and oscillation. If you use this to reduce the amount of heating from your central heating unit (furnace), then it's extremely "efficient" and can save you a lot of money. A natural gas burning furnace is usually only 80% to 90% efficient. A good portion of heat goes out the roof through the flue pipe (exhausting the products of combustion which can be dangerous). Natural gas is usually cheaper than electricity per unit of heat, however, so many people think gas heat is more efficient than electric heat, but it's the opposite. By now, you're probably sorry you asked... :o) |

| Answer: | No, it would not. From what I’ve seen on Amazon, most inverters on amazon that plug into a car’s cigarette lighter are only capable of delivering 150 Watts. You would have more luck finding a small heater that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter. The issue with generating heat is it takes a lot of power that many batteries aren’t properly equipped to handle. Most can sustain a somewhat decent pull of maybe 100 Watts or so, but space heaters that warm up a room in a couple of minutes rely on the very high power (usually 1500 Watts) that (most of the time) only a proper wall outlet can provide. A small heater would work, but it would also drain the battery without the car running, so it might be a good idea to have an extra source of power. |

It really is good for a small bedroom. I use it to warm the sofa/seating area around the TV but beyond that I'd have to use the house heater.
