13 best duraflame heaters
Duraflame heaters are a popular brand of electric space heaters designed to provide supplemental heating for homes and offices. These heaters are part of the broader category of electric space heaters, which are used to heat specific areas or rooms rather than an entire home. Here's what you should know about Duraflame heaters:
Types of Heaters: Duraflame offers a range of electric heaters, including infrared quartz heaters, ceramic heaters, and fan-forced heaters. Each type of heater has its own set of features and benefits.
Infrared Heating: Many Duraflame heaters use infrared heating technology. Infrared heaters work by emitting infrared radiation, which heats objects and people directly in its path, rather than heating the air. This makes them an efficient choice for quickly warming up a room.
Ceramic Heaters: Duraflame also manufactures ceramic heaters. Ceramic heaters use a heating element and a ceramic plate to generate heat. They are known for their quick heating capabilities and energy efficiency.
Safety Features: Duraflame heaters typically come with safety features such as tip-over protection and overheating protection. These features automatically shut off the heater if it is knocked over or if it becomes too hot, reducing the risk of accidents and fires.
Remote Control: Some Duraflame heaters come with remote controls, allowing users to adjust the temperature and settings from a distance for added convenience.
Programmable Thermostats: Many models are equipped with programmable thermostats, which allow users to set their desired temperature and maintain it without constant manual adjustments.
Portability: Duraflame heaters are designed to be portable, with lightweight designs and built-in handles. This makes it easy to move the heater from room to room as needed.
Design Variety: Duraflame offers heaters in various styles and finishes to complement different home decors. Some models even feature realistic flame effects for aesthetic appeal, simulating the look of a traditional fireplace without the need for actual flames.
Energy Efficiency: Electric space heaters like Duraflame models can be more energy-efficient than central heating systems for heating specific areas, as they allow users to target the warmth where it's needed most, potentially reducing overall heating costs.
Maintenance: Duraflame heaters generally require minimal maintenance. Cleaning the heater's exterior and ensuring that the heating element is free from dust and debris is usually sufficient to keep it running efficiently.
Cost: The cost of Duraflame heaters varies depending on the model and features. They are available in a range of price points to suit different budgets.
It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when using any space heater, including Duraflame heaters, to ensure safe and efficient operation. Additionally, users should be mindful of energy usage and heating costs when using electric space heaters as a primary or supplementary heating source in their homes.

US Patent No. 9,787,083
Infrared Advantages
Like standing in the rays of the sun, infrared technology produces heat that warms you instantly, even as it heats a large area. Plus, infrared heat helps you create a healthier home environment because its gentle heat maintains natural humidity in the air, rather than drying air out, so your family’s skin and airways don’t dry out either. Infrared heating also reduces static electricity, unlike traditional heaters.
Zone Heating Saves You Money
Zone Heating is a simple way to save money. In many homes, certain rooms, like bedrooms, dens, and basements, are unused much of the day, and don’t need to be as warm at those times. With zone heating, you can use electric heat to warm up the rooms you’re using, and shut off heated air blown in different sections, or zones, so unoccupied space isn’t heated. Turning down your thermostat by 10 – 15 degrees for 8 hours a day can bring you significant savings.*

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the temperature control move the temp up and down? I have a different model and the temp control is only one button that goes from low to high |
Answer: | If you are going to clamp the fan to the metal of the stove, just attach it to one of the screws on the frame of the fan. If you are just setting it under the firebox attach it to one of the bolts that secured the old fan to the fire box. |
Question: | Metal body |
Answer: | Start hooking the wire up from the blower itself. The blower comes with a wire harness that plugs on to the blower and has a green ground wire. The ground wire has a round fitting on the end and should be put under one of the blower screws. Then follow the diagram back to the thermostat and the speed adjustment knob then to the plug. |
Question: | How much does the heater weigh |
Answer: | the 200 is for units with a dedicated wall switch for the blower and it has variable speed control. The 250 is required for units that do not have a dedicated wall switch for the blower but is in essence the same as the 200 with variable speed control. |
Question: | Is there a timer function so you can set it to come on in the morning? Thanks |
Answer: | No, it only turns on when it is plugged in. Usually with these type of fireplaces, there should be duel switch on the wall, one to turn on the fireplace, the other to turn on the blower. One of the plugins under the fireplace should be controlled by the switch on the wall, if it was installed that way. Hopefully this helps answer your question. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the flame feature be turned off for use at night in a bedroom (so the room stays dark |
Answer: | Yes, the moving flame feature can be turned off. The logs maintain a very slight glow, that does not disrupt sleep if you wake up in the middle of the night. It's awesome. |
Question: | What kind of functionality does the remote have? Does it have a timer to turn on |
Answer: | The remote has four function buttons: power; flame setting; temperature; timer. The flame height can be adjusted from 1 to 5; level 1 is lighted embers, level 1 is a low flame, etc. The temperature can be set in increments of 2 degress from 62F to 82F. The remote will allow you to see what the temperature is set at, but you have to adjust it manually from the control panel. The timer can be set to turn the unit off, but not on. It starts at 30 minutes and increases in hourly intervals from 1 hour to 9 hours. Unlike the temperature, the timer can be set with the remote. Your local hardware store might have a timer you could attach to it to turn it on automatically. I don't know that for a fact, but I don't see why it wouldn't operate similarly to any other electrical appliance that can be used with a timer. |
Question: | How much does it cost per hour to run |
Answer: | It's a very good and responsible question, and yes, there is a way to answer it. It requires you check your electric bill and so some math, but you really only have to do this once. You're going to calculate how much you pay per kilowatt hour (kWh) which really is just how much it costs to run any electrical item in your home for each 1,000 watts. STEP 1: Find your most recent electric bill, look for any charges that are based on killowatt hours (kWh). For example... I live in NYC, and my probably outrageous bill had (Supply @9.1811 cents per kWh) + (Delivery @12.0324 cents per kWh) + (Clean Energy Benefit @ 0.6811 per kWh). I also note that Sales Tax is 4.5% and write all these down. STEP 2: Add them all up then apply sales tax. So for my bill, I get (9.1811) + (12.0324) + (0.6811) = 21.8946 cents per kWh. To factor in the Sales Tax of 4.5%, I calculate (21.8946) * (1.045) = 22.87986 cents per kWh. I round this up to 23 cents to make it easy, so that means it costs me 23 cents per hour to run a 1,000 watt appliance. STEP 3: Multiply your hourly cost by this appliance's wattage. The details indicate this is heater is 120 Volts at 12.5 Amps. To calculate watts is just (volts) * (amps). So (120 volts) * (12.5 amps) = **1,500 watts**. NOTE: this is very typical for major appliances such as air conditioners, space heaters and even running a clothes iron. With that in hand, multiply the kWh cost from STEP 2 by the wattage of this heater. So for me, since it costs me 23 cents per kWh to run something, that means at 1,500 watts it would cost me (23 cents * 1.5) = 34.5 cents to run this heater every hour. Yes, I rounded up a bit earlier (my real cost is 34.31979), but I like to overestimate just a little to play it safe. STEP 4: Multiply your cost to run this hourly by how many hours you might run it. This is where it gets very controversial because I think most people do not understand their own energy costs or usage and get a shock (no pun intended) from their electric bill. Let's say I run this heater 6 hours per day in a 30 day month. That's 180 hours * 34.5 cents per kWh = $62.10 just to run this one heater. STEP 5: Think about how you're heating your home. Remember that 1,500 watts is VERY common for major appliances as noted above, and other smaller heaters might be around the same, or possibly 1,000 watts. Let's say you're a family with a space heater in each room to keep people warm. Let's imagine those space heaters were 1,000 watts each. That means at 3,000 watts, you'd be paying DOUBLE in electrical costs instead of just having the family huddle together near this large heater in the living room. Summary: Do some due diligence and check your electric bill charges per kWh, then check the wattage of each heating appliance and do some simple math according to many electrical appliances you are running to heat your home. This exercise seriously shouldn't take too long to do, and you can use this same method to understand what it costs for air conditioning in the summer, and even how much it costs to run giant flat screen TVs or computers. Though for those panels it's far less... my 55" flat screen TV runs at 250 watts max, and my computer about 300 watts with monitor, computer and max gaming settings. Heating and air conditioning are what crush your electric bill, so do this and you'll see how valuable it is to have one large machine doing heating/cooling for a large area rather than multiple individual ones. PS: I haven't even bought this yet, but I wanted to help educate the person who asked the question, because this is a VERY important thing that so many people don't do, and I don't like seeing people throw money away. IMO, this is a very good purchase just for saving on electrical costs. |
Question: | is it noisy |
Answer: | Yes the machine is noisy. When the heat is on there is a low drone which isn't bad and is to be expected. The noise from the heater isnt the problem. It's when the flames and heater are on but the heat kicks off bc the room is at the desired temperature. At this point the flames make a very loud and annoying sound. If you lower the flames to the lowest setting this noise too will go away. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use an led bulb |
Answer: | You will be able to adapt some of the exercises, but many of them won't work. Overall, I wouldn't recommend buying these for use with a bosu ball. Thanks, Kurt Stack 52 |
Question: | where is stove made |
Answer: | Hello HiSunshine,The cards are the same size as poker playing cards. The smallest font is 10 point which is the same as many printed fonts in books. If you need glasses to read most books, you will need glasses to read these. Ideally, you will not need to read the cards every time. You can start by learning a few exercises, reading those cards, watching the videos and doing them. Add a few more cards at your own pace. Soon, you will see the card and know the exercise.Sincerely,Kurt |
Question: | Can this be used outside |
Answer: | Feels and smells like real leather. The stitching and weight are really great! |
Question: | I can't find any where the measurements. Can someone help me with that |
Answer: | I'm sorry, I can't remember the specific text. It's a very basic goodnight story for babies to 1-year olds. Got it for my great niece, along with one of the little pea-pod dolls they sell. Wasn't very impressed with the book, but the doll was absolutely adorable, and was my niece's favorite gift (1 year old). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it normal for the plug to be hot |
Answer: | I noticed mine was getting really hot. The instructions says not to use and extension cord but I HAD to so I ended up getting a heavy duty appliance extension cord. The plug only gets warm now, not super hot like before. Even if you’re not using an extension cord and gets hot make sure it’s plugged into a GFI outlet and that will solve the problem. |
Question: | I know that infered heats a bigger room and gets hot faster, is there a difference otherwise? Pros and cons of each please. I don't know what infered |
Answer: | From my understanding, infrared is 40% more efficient and heats faster (covering more sf as a result). However, the heat is direct and thus dissipates just as fast. Conventional heats the air unlike infrared and is supposed to last longer after the heater is off. Conventional also dehumidifies as a result. Not sure the extent to which all that is true with this specific product... I have the conventional one but not this one so can't compare. |
Question: | Does this insert make a crackling sound |
Answer: | This model does not make a crackling sound. |
Question: | what side does the power cord come out on if your facing the fireplace |
Answer: | it comes out the back. the unit is a superb heating unit. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | It should. It just plugs into the AC outlet in the bottom area below fire box. We sure love the way it heats the great room and kitchen! |
Question: | Why are there no reviews on this item |
Answer: | not sure what you mean by "kit" but it includes the fan and wiring. I had mine installed last week and it works great. |
Question: | I have an older home will the power draw cause a problem for me i.e. hot wiring etc. I heard it draws energy equivalent to a 100 watt light bulb yes |
Answer: | No. The thermal switch is the control for the automatic on-off feature. Even though your fireplace may feel cool to the touch outside, the location of the thermal switch is likely still warm enough to leave the fan running and circulating. It's working as intended. |
Question: | Does the DFI 8511 have an adjustable thermostat |
Answer: | If I remember correctly it is on ball bearings, I am really happy with mine, it works great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | An you use extension cord |
Answer: | The wattage is 1500w, you should be able to use any extension cord you would use with a 1500w hair dryer. Because you will be using it for a much longer period of time than a hair dryer you may want to consider an extension cord of 14 gauge run the unit with full power for 15+ minutes and see if the cord gets hot. If it does go to a 12 gauge cord. Remember it uses very little power when used with the flame and sound, it uses the 1500 when you turn on the heat portion. |
Question: | How many btu's is it |
Answer: | I’m not sure about BTU’s but it is 120VAC, 12.5 Amps and 1500 Watts |
Question: | Can it be used free standing if you don’t have a fireplace |
Answer: | I wouldn't try it. It needs to be on a VERY SAFE spot for the heater. Away from drapes, furniture, etc. |
Question: | What is the difference between this unit and the duraflame electric dfi030aru with the same specs, aside from the sound |
Answer: | Aside from what the other person stated I believe another difference is that this one has heat regulation whereas the other one does not, however, both appear to have regulation of the flames. |

Question: | How noisy is this heater? I have Dr. Heater and it is quite noisy. just wanted to compare. thanks |
Answer: | Less than 60 decibels. At the present time it is nestled under dining room credenza with 2 inches to spare (top and sides) and is very quiet. I would highly recommend and corner of a room nestled under a piece of furniture at a 45 degree angle so you do not block air intake and front sticking out about 2 or 3 inches so so it is not blowing any 120 to 150 heat on furniture. Front of heater must be at least four(4) feet away from any flammable items. Go to Home depot and get a pistol grip style Infrared thermometer with a laser that measures accurate heat on all objects. The home depot model is Ryobi model IR001, Store SKU #699814. Look it up on Home Depot web site. WARNING, DO NOT POINT LASER AT ANYBODY AND DO NOT LET CHILDREN PLAY WITH IT. Also, keep heater intake rear filter clean. Expect your electric bill to go UP. |
