13 best installing a pellet stoves
Installing a pellet stove is a popular choice for homeowners looking for an efficient and eco-friendly heating option. Pellet stoves burn compressed wood pellets to produce heat.Proper installation is crucial to ensure safety and efficiency. Here are the basic steps involved in installing a pellet stove:
Choose the Location:
- Select a suitable location for the pellet stove. It should be near an exterior wall for venting and have access to a power outlet.
- Ensure there is adequate clearance from combustible materials like walls, furniture, and curtains. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for clearance distances.
Prepare the Hearth and Floor Protection:
- Install a non-combustible hearth or floor protection in the area where the pellet stove will be placed. This protects the floor from heat and potential ember spills.
- The required size and type of floor protection may vary based on local building codes and the stove's specifications.
Install the Venting System:
- Pellet stoves require proper venting to expel combustion gases. The type of venting system will depend on your specific stove and local regulations.
- Common venting options include a horizontal or vertical vent pipe that terminates outside the house.
- Ensure that the venting system is properly sealed to prevent leaks.
Position the Pellet Stove:
- Carefully position the pellet stove on the hearth or floor protection, ensuring it's level.
- Connect the stove's air intake and exhaust vent to the corresponding openings in the venting system.
Connect to Electricity:
- Most pellet stoves require electricity to operate. Plug the stove into a dedicated power outlet or have an electrician install one if needed.
Vent Termination:
- Install the vent termination cap on the exterior wall or roof as per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Ensure that the vent termination is at the appropriate height and distance from windows, doors, and other openings.
Connect the Fuel Source:
- Pellet stoves are fed with wood pellets from a hopper. Connect the hopper to the stove according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Fill the hopper with wood pellets.
Start and Test the Stove:
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions to start the pellet stove.
- Test the stove's operation to ensure it's heating properly and that there are no issues with combustion or venting.
Install Safety Features:
- Consider installing carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms near the pellet stove for added safety.
Regular Maintenance:
- Pellet stoves require regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure efficient and safe operation. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning the burn pot, venting system, and other components.
Compliance with Local Codes:
- Always check and comply with local building codes and regulations when installing a pellet stove. Permits may be required, and it's essential to ensure the installation meets safety standards.
Keep in mind that the specific steps and requirements for installing a pellet stove can vary based on the stove model, local regulations, and other factors. It's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions and consult with a professional installer if you're not confident in your DIY skills. Improper installation can lead to safety hazards and reduced efficiency.

Question: | Is it possible to use this stove with an existing 8” class A chimney? Or do I need to get an insert to drop the size down to |
Answer: | This is only meant to be used with 3-4 inch pellet pipe or with 6 inch Class A stove pipe. |
Question: | Could this be bricked in to retain more heat |
Answer: | I actually dud put fire bricks on the unit to try to retain heat, the result was, this unit, unlike a rocket stove; is trimmed down a bit to heat up ro about 800-900 degrees at the most and my feeling was that the fire bricks. While effective, also seemed to kind of rob the stove of it's heat at the same time, and since the unit runs on the draft it creates with it's own heat, it tended to mess with the draft a little bit. However, I did not use soapstone, which I'm feeling would be the perfect add-on to one of these stove. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this an official Harman Accentra part or is this an aftermarket part |
Answer: | Hi, if it doesn’t say OEM in description then it is a aftermarket. I paid close to 300.00 for my OEM part. Hope this answers your question. |
Question: | My stove is making a horrible sound, its not the exhaust fan motor. Is this the same thing you guys experienced |
Answer: | Shannon, Happy to assist and get to the root of the issue. Have you been able to pin point where the noise is coming from? Your distribution fan here won't kick on until the stove get's warm enough unless you turn your feed adjuster to test mode; Is the noise something you hear right away on start-up or is it something you hear right when the distribution fan kicks on? We have a wealth of experience with Harman and we are confident we can help you figure out where the problem is. Thanks, Taylor-ESESstoves |
Question: | Is this an official Harman Accentra part or is this an aftermarket part |

Question: | Is this an oem replacement part or an aftermarket part? also, is there any wire connections required or is it "plug & play"? thanks |
Answer: | This is a replacement part-very good price after checking other places. I am not sure about the connections as I paid a stove company to install if for me and they charged $75.00. |

Question: | what are the dimesions |
Answer: | It should say? |
Question: | Will it fit for an old Englander from |
Answer: | I can't say for sure but I had to modify two of them slightly for use on my '91' model. I had to bend one edge 90 degrees for mounting, I just stuck it in a vise to get the initial bend and adjusted it further with a Crescent wrench. So yes, depending on the differences are. I've had Whitfields and the majority of fans are somewhat universal, with minor adjustments needed to the wiring termination or mounting flange. |
Question: | Will this fit a 2014 25pdvc eglander stove |
Answer: | Yes. That's the model I have and it fits. Be aware the wires are too short to fit the control board. I had to splice in some extra length. |
Question: | Will this fit a englander 25 pdvc |
Answer: | I have the same model and it fit just fine. The only issue I had was the wires that come on this motor are too short to reach the control board. I had to splice in some extra length from the old motor before I scrapped it. |

As a pellet stove repair technician I’ve replaced hundreds of auger motors in more than 10 years and I can promise you this is the best auger motor you can put in your stove. It’s quieter than any other motor you can buy and lasts longer. 15-20 Year Lifespan. starts off by packaging the motor in a high strength metal casing for durability. Then they add a powerful copper wound transformer to drive the motor. Inside there are the highest quality components. The gear sets and bearings are manufactured with tolerances so small they can only be measured using a microscope. This motor is calibrated for high stress, high temperature operation so it stays cooler and last longer while effectively breaking through pellet fuel pile ups. Wiring - Your new motor may have a electrical plug that is different from you old motor. Cut the new plug off and splice the wires to the old wiring using your choice of electrical connector. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which as long as they are connected.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you program just the fan mode |
Answer: | Hi there, this unit REQUIRES an internet connection, based on a WiFi (wireless) connection. Once the device establishes an internet connection to the Honeywell cloud (which is cool!) you can effectively control the thermoostat from anywhere you have an internet connection.... even your smartphone. Enjoy! |
Question: | Is it smart enough to decide whether to run the heater or cooler to keep the temperature fixed |
Answer: | The WiFi setup requires you to create an account on mytotalconnectcomfort.com. It’s not that hard. The biggest problem with this thermostat is the unreliable remote connectivity ever since Honeywell spun off their thermostat division 6 months ago. Now it’s frequent periods of time where the thermostat will not respond to remote commands. It’s maddening |
Question: | What if i have a C wire |
Answer: | When you put it on circulate, the fan comes on for about 10 minutes every 20 minutes or so. The owners manual says it runs about 35% of the time. I used this feature this Fall with the system off (no heat or a/c) just to circulate the air through my Filtrete filters. |
Question: | Can you create a fan schedule? I’d like the fan to always run from 10pm until 6am |
Answer: | These thermostats are not the same. Even the screen is different. The RTH9580 doesn't have the 3D look of the 9300 series. |

Answer: | Hi, I have an Accentra pellet stove insert, bought new in 2007. I don't know when they started making the Accentra 2, but my stove had the older igniter with 13 fins and the new one with 15 fins fit in with no problems. You have to bend a metal tab to open the cradle once you remove it with the 2 screws, and the old part slips out and the new one slips right in. |
Question: | My current igniter has 13 fins and the tray only has a gap of 2.5” for all the fins to fit. Is this new 15 fin less than 2.5”? Thanks |

Question: | ihave whitfield pellet stove, the auger stopped working ..the model is 734 . will the motor work |
Answer: | If your motor is 1 rpm it should work fine, you can change the rotation of the motor if it turns the wrong way. not familiar with a model 734 is that the stove model or the auger motor? You can also disconnect the auger motor use a old extention cord with two 1/4 spade terminals and hook it up plug it into 110 and see if it turns. If it doesn't it s probably not the auger motor. Check so see if pellets are jammed in auger. |

Answer: | if your existing rope is 3/8" , then it will work. There are several different size rope gaskets made, it should list the size for your stove in the owners manual. |
Question: | what is the width of the gasket |
Answer: | Hi- The thickness is whatever the package says it is. Usual thicjnesses ae 5/16", 3/8". 7/16", 1/2"...whatever the package says. The gasket may look toioi thick but it will compress depending on how you use it. |
Question: | I need the window gasket for the Lopi Answer wood heater |
Answer: | I don't know! What is the diameter of the current door glass? You have to replace it with the same size gasket. It should be in the manual that came with the stove??? You can also go online and google Lopi 380 door glass gasket and something should turn up. Good luck! |
Question: | What is the heat rating on the adhesive |
Answer: | Well Jenna, Hard to say, the difference between the Most gap & Least gap is the question. The gasket does compress some, so it will compress in the smaller area, but will it then be thick enough to seal the larger area? If you installed it & get a door imprint all the way around that would show success. They do make a 1/2 inch diameter which may make more difference in these clearances. Note up front: the glue is tricky to work with & hardens quickly, I suggest having some toss away pressing/placing type tools (like Chopsticks) before you start, to position, hold & sometimes stretch the rope keeping in mind: the most space will be removed when the rope is NOT stretched but pushed closer together on itself & least when the rope is stretched. Test: Take some clay or bubble gum and place a wad in the largest opening & the smallest opening, then check the difference, if the Difference is Less than 3/8 you should be ok, if it's more you may experience some leakage which may Not be a big problem keeping in mind that you must allow air to enter the stove to burn, you may negate the air leaking by with the closing of the air vents, however if there's too much air flow you may Not be able to control the fire, be careful there, to test this: after installing the gasket get a fire going well & with the air supply vents closed completely close the door and see if the fire dies down, if so you should be good if not you probably won't be able to control a larger fire. |
