13 best fireplace fan

A fireplace fan, also known as a fireplace blower or fireplace insert fan, is a device used to improve the efficiency and heat distribution of a traditional wood-burning or gas fireplace. These fans are designed to enhance the warmth generated by the fireplace by circulating the warm air more effectively throughout the room. Here's what you need to know about fireplace fans:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of a fireplace fan is to distribute the heat produced by the fire more evenly and efficiently throughout the room. This helps in maximizing the heating potential of the fireplace.

  2. Types: There are two main types of fireplace fans: blower fans and stove fans.

    • Blower Fans: These are typically installed inside or near the fireplace or within the firebox. They blow air over the hot surfaces of the fireplace, such as the firebox or the heat exchanger, and then circulate the warm air into the room through vents or ducts. Blower fans are often powered by electricity and can be controlled manually or with a thermostat.

    • Stove Fans: Stove fans, also known as heat-powered stove fans or eco fans, are designed to sit on top of wood-burning or gas stoves. They operate without electricity and are powered solely by the heat generated by the stove. As the stove heats up, the fan blades start to spin, pushing warm air into the room.

  3. Benefits:

    • Increased Efficiency: Fireplace fans help to extract more heat from the fire and distribute it throughout the room, which can lead to increased heating efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

    • Even Heat Distribution: These fans help eliminate hot and cold spots in the room by spreading the warm air more evenly, creating a more comfortable environment.

    • Reduced Energy Costs: By making better use of the heat generated by the fireplace, a fan can potentially reduce the need to rely on other heating sources, thereby lowering energy costs.

  4. Installation: Installing a fireplace fan may require professional assistance, especially for blower fans that involve electrical connections and modifications to the fireplace. Stove fans, on the other hand, are typically placed on the stove's surface and require no special installation.

  5. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep the fan operating efficiently. This may include cleaning the fan blades and ensuring that vents or ducts are clear of debris.

  6. Compatibility: Fireplace fans are not universally compatible with all fireplace types or models. It's essential to check the manufacturer's recommendations and guidelines to ensure compatibility with your specific fireplace.

In summary, a fireplace fan is a valuable accessory for improving the heating efficiency and heat distribution of traditional fireplaces. Whether you opt for a blower fan or a stove fan, they can help you make better use of the heat generated by your fireplace and create a more comfortable and warm living space.

How Does the Stove Fan Work?

The stove fan works by using the heat from your wood stove to drive the stove fan blades making for a simple and elegant solution to your issues with heating. The stove fan makes use of a Thermoelectric Power Generator.

The heat is moved from a hot area to the cold metal fan blades resulting in an electric current. This energy that is produced powers a rotary motor that spin the blades to move air. The stove fan is very reliable and has no need for any other source of energy.

The base of the stove fan heats up, there’s a motor here, which is powered by the heat that’s created from your stove. So the fan sits directly on the top of the stove and as soon as it hits a certain temperature, the motor starts working, the stove fan will spin faster when it’s hotter.

Which type of stove does the stove fan work with?

No matter which stove you have: gas, electric, pellet stove or wood burning stove, catalytic and non-catalytic, stove fans will work well.

User questions & answers

Question: How many CFM's does this develop
Answer: More like cim, cubic inch per minute.
Question: will this work if I put it on the hearth of my fireplace. note it is not a wood burning stove
Answer: Depending on how much heat come out of the hearth area, it should work. I have mine on a gas fireplace and hung on wire to get it front of heat. I've been using it this way for 2 months and I'm very happy with it.
Question: Will this work in my ash catcher to circulate debris
Answer: Probably not.
Question: Could this be used on top of a dyna-glo kerosene heater
Answer: I use it on my dyna-glo and it works perfectly. I took the top of the cage off which was only 2 screws so i could place the fan directly on top of the heater. It blows on high speed and moves air well.

Why do we need to use the stove fan?

Instead of the heat rising vertically with a standard stove, the stove fan uses its blades to divert the warm air horizontally.  The extra movement of air will help warm the whole room, not just the ceiling and the area near the stove.

How is working without batteries or electricity?
Whisper-Quiet and Easy to Install
Attention

Never handle the base of the stove fan, do not set the stove fan down on an unprotected surface when hot. To move or carry the fan, always use the extendable handle while wearing gloves.

We do not recommend you to splice or cut any of the wirings to extend it, due to the fact that it will cause damage. If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to us via email. Kind Regards, AC Infinity
Question: When will the t14 and t16 be available again? is their guidance on the recommended cfm per home square footage
Answer: Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to us! I'm sorry but we only make this product in a 10", 12" and 14" size, we do not have them available in a 16" version at this time. Generally you would want to get a fan that matches your fireplace size or the size of the unit that you would be replacing. We do not have any formula to calculate the recommended CFM for different size homes as there are too many variables that come into play for us to be able to provide an accurate CFM. User questions & answers

Question: Will the controller keep the settings if there is a power outage? I don't want to pull out the controller every time the power goes out and reset it
Answer: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us with your question. The AIRBLAZE units will resume the same settings if there should be a power outage in your area. Thank you for your question! Kind regards, The AC Infinity Team
Question: How does one choose between the 10, 12, or 14-inch model? is it based on the size of the fireplace or the square footage of the area
Answer: I would recommend buying the largest one that will fit under your fireplace. I say this because the fan is controllable in 10 speeds. I got the 14" model and although I'm not really disappointed with it, I wish I would have gotten a larger one to move more air when needed.
Question: Somewhat unclear -- is this solely for gas or can it be used with a wood stove/fireplace insert? (Specifically a Morso
Answer: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us with your product question. This fan unit is typically used for gas fireplace inserts, however, if you have a traditional wood-burning fireplace that has a similar design then you may be able to use this fan in that particular application. You would just need to ensure that there is sufficient room for the fan to be mounted, and also ensure that the fan unit is not exposed to direct fire or temperatures exceeding 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Thank you again for your question! Kind regards, The AC Infinity Team
Question: Can the remote also control the fireplace? Don't really want two controllers
Answer: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. The AIRBLAZE T14 controller can not be programmed to control your fireplace. Kind regards, Stephanie H. AC Infinity

User questions & answers

Question: can you really use this with a fireplace as the title in the ad states
Answer: I use this fan on my fireplace insert, which has a metal shelf about 8-9" wide right above the door. The fan begins to spin at 120 degrees or so, and spins fast at 320 degrees. If your stove or metal surface isn't hot enough, it won't work well, but at a reasonable heat, it moves hot air enough that it is uncomfortable to stand in front of it for long. I love the fact that it's quiet, doesn't use electricity, and warms the room.
Question: I have this 4 years. love it. this season, the blades started to wobble and make noise. can i tighten or fix anything
Answer: Probably the housing is becoming worn and play in the shaft Not sure if that’s adjustable
Question: Has anybody used this on a pellet stove at lower temp settings
Answer: The stove fan is designed to use on freestanding stoves with a normal surface temperature between 185° F - 660° F (85° C - 350° C).
Question: I have a nice enamel finish on my stove and don't want to scratch it. Does the bottom of the base have any material on it that would protect the stove
Answer: No it doesn’t have any bumpers or anything like that. Mine is an older stove so it is pretty tough but I haven’t had the fan move around on it’s own or anything so I’m sure if you were careful with putting it on the stove it won’t scratch.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use this in a normal fireplace
Answer: Mine works exceptional. I am using it on top of my mr.heater for hunting/fishing. So to answer the question I think it will NOT WORK! for a standard fireplace because there is a small strip on the bottom of the base that needs to be heated to a minimum of 50°C to start it. It needs to be placed directly on a hot surface such as a wood stove to make it function.

Product features

How does it works without batteries:

It seems impossible, but this fan runs without batteries or electricity. As the base of the fan heats up, the metal in the bottom of the unit warms along with a heat sensitive spring. Meanwhile, the temperature of the different metals in the unit’s top surface is kept down by the fans cooling fins. When the heat sensitive spring reaches a sufficient temperature it tilts the unit forward, bringing the two layers of metal together. This creates the electrical pulse that turns the blade on the fan.

User questions & answers

Question: Can these be mounted under a fireplace mantle to redirect heat from ventless gas logs
Answer: I believe these fans are meant to be sat on the top of a wood stove as the heat generates from the bottom og the fan. They generate electricity that runs the fan blades because of the little metalic plate on the bottom. I think the blades start when the heat on the bottom of the fan reaches 280 degrees.
Question: Is there any possibility of side mounting
Answer: You might be able to side mount your fan by attaching a fairly strong magnet to the base of the fan but keep in mind heat rises and you won’t get as much heat movement

User questions & answers

Question: How much air can this fan move at maximum and/or typical operation? other fans list 125 or 240 cfm (ft3/minute), for example
Answer: I can't tell you the cfm, but I can tell you it has to be pretty small. It does move some air, but these fans are more decorative than functional. I have two of them on my wood stove, and was hoping to shut off the fan attached to the rear of the stove. No way do these two replace the air moved by that 110v fan on the stove.
Question: Will this work for a pellet stove, we have an old Englander model 25pfs that gets pretty warm near the chimney area
Answer: The stove fan is designed for usage on freestanding stoves with a normal surface temperature between 185° F - 660° F (85° C - 350° C).
Question: How deep is the unit
Answer: The depth of the unit is 12.5cm.
Question: can this be used for a wood burning fireplace
Answer: It relies on heat to spin the blades, so it needs to be in contact with the top of the wood burning stove.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this fan integrate with the kozy heat model del-36s
Answer: The OEM kit for the DEL36S is #NCL-028, which is close to our GFK4 kit. However, the mounting is slightly different and so are the size of the blowers. Assuming you have enough room below the fireplace, I don't technically see why the GFK4 couldn't work as a universal replacement kit, but you'll want to confirm this with before purchasing. Regards, Jason
Question: Is this correct for the Heatilator nb4842 model
Answer: Yes, the GFK4 is the correct blower kit for the NB4842 model! Regards, Jason
Question: i have a lopi berkshire gas stove. i would like to install a fan. will this unit gfk4 fit in my stove? how many sones??? thank you
Answer: Bob, if you have 3.5 inches of clearance between the bottom of the lower opening and the top of that same opening you should be able to get this in. You will have to remove anything that is in the bottom of the stove except the gas valve itself. That means the electrial unit that is there and the gas line that feeds the burner unit. Not too bad if you are comfortable with doing it, but if you are uncomfortable with removing gas lines, etc. someone else should do this for you. It takes about 45 minutes from start to finish.
Question: Heatilator told me that i need the GFK4B model. This one does not say B. Do you have the B
Answer: Hi Mike, great question. Our GFK4 is essentially the same thing as the GFK4A or GFK4B. The "A" stood for automatic, which meant the kit included a thermostat. The "B" was used by some brands to indicate that a timer feature was added to the kit, but most manufacturers use "A" and "B" synonymously to mean that the blower kit is automatic. Our GFK4 covers all examples, so if Heatilator recommended the GFK4B, our GFK4 will work wonderfully. If you have any additional questions, just let us know.

CXhome

Based on 288 reviews Check latest price
  • Fan for stove works without batteries, ropes or electricity and is environmentally friendly. It generates its own energy thanks to the heat released by the surface of the stove. The base of the fan transmits the heat to the units of production of electricity and the units of electricity production convert the heat energy into kinetic energy. The energy necessary to drive the motor, then the blades turn.
  • Upgrade 4 blades and dispense warm air throughout the room. Simply place the stove fan on a flat, smooth surface on the top of your stove, near the side or back of the stovepipe. You must place the stove fan at least 4 inches from the stovepipe. This will work when the stove surface is hot.
  • Operating temperature: 40°C -340°C (644°F): The fan rotates when the temperature reaches 40 ° C. The warmer the base of the fan, the faster the fan rotates, and the more the fan circulates in the room . It will slow down and stop while the stove is cooling down.
  • Anodized aluminum material: The fan assembly is made of anodised aluminum, which will not rust and corrode if the fan overheats. A bimetallic safety device is installed at the base of the fan. If the surface temperature exceeds 300°C, the safety device gently raises the front of the fan to protect the TEG and the motor.
  • Quiet work, no more airflow. Features with the unique design of the blade, the oven blower can drive more warm air with quiet operation. No noise. You will enjoy the warm air in a calm and comfortable environment.
