| Answer: | My understanding is that the fan needs to be plugged into a grounded wall outlet and not into an extension cord. Both the fan's cord and the wall outlet "trip" occasionally in bad weather or when we have a momentary blackout/brownout from summer heat and they have to be reset with the buttons on the fan plug and the wall outlet (like on a hairdrier cord.) If my fan plug had not fit I would have tried to remove the outlet cover (which closes by a spring.) If I had been unable to do that, I would have used a grounded wet rated outdoor cord with a surge protector. Ive had the fan about 2 years. Unfortunately I went out of town for ten days and when I got back, the fan had "tripped." I turned it on and after struggling for a minute, I smelled burning rubber so I unplugged it. I'm pretty sure it's dead or dangerous. Going to track down the warranty papers and see if the company will fix it under the 3 year warranty. |
