The height of of the shelf compartment (same on each side for a total of 2 compartments)from vey bottom to top is 17.5, but visibly there is 15.5" (due to top facing/facade under main counter/top shelf). Those measurements are with taking out the adjustable shelf. Horizontally the compartment is 25.75" with 25" visible (due to center divider facade), depth is 14". There are 3 levels to place adjustable shelf...starting from middle it can go up or down by 1". In one compartment i didn't use the adjustable shelf so i could fit a tall item that sits on the bottom Of compartment. Hope this helps.

That's if you want a TV to be longer than the shelf, which I personally wouldn't want. 55" would be about exactly the width of this stand.
