Answer:	I guess you can, however, shelve actually screws into the legs. Each leg has a cutout opening and for shelves to be screwed into. If you omit the shelve you will see that opening. Another reason to leave the shelve attached is for stability. This is a beautiful, sturdy, well-constructed piece of furniture. Well worth the price.
Question:	Can the table be used without the lower shelf? I want to put a computer under it and it sits on the floor instead of the shelf
Answer:	You could just leave the lower shelf off when you're putting it together, it would still be really solid. Used as a desk, there wouldn't be that much weight where you would need to worry about its ability to support weight. I'm using it as an aquarium stand so I definitely needed the lower shelf for stability.
