Answer:	There are 2 metal rods that run on either side the length of the cot. There are 3 hoop type metal bars/feet where each end fits into a hole in the metal rods in a horizontal fashion. These hoops accomplish 2 things: 1) they hold the cot up off the ground; & 2) provide spring tension to keep the sides from coming together when your on it. I do not feel any bars when I'm on the cot because the green material your lying on is suspended by the frame and hoop feet.

Answer:	It folds into thirds so around 26 in across and 4in thick. I wouldn't use it for backpacking but its great for car camping.

Answer:	I found it was more comfortable with a pad than without. It's not super hard, but there isn't much give either. Of course, I use it for car camping, so I have the luxury of extra space. Using the cot is definitely better than just a pad.

Answer:	You don't need any tools. Just attach both halves of the couch with the tool that they give you. It took my son 20 minutes or less. He said most of the time was taken up unpacking the material in the box.

Answer:	Seeing as none of the other reviewers properly answered your question (the number of farts), I will proceed. If you average 2 farts per day x 365 days in a year = normal consumer. Couch can withstand 730 farts until neutral order is not maintained. Now your question can be tweaked based on your entertainment environment. For example, you are very social, you probably get more farts per 365 days than average. But 2 farts per day with no treatment is your baseline.
