Answer:	I used it between HardiPlank siding and bib, can't see why vinyl might be different. HardiPlank might be even more difficult since it does not seem to hold screws well, crumbles easily. The plate does have some thickness to it, so need at least a little "play" in your line to slide between siding and bib, i.e., it pulls the bib out maybe a quarter inch. My bib was backed with pvc piping so had that play. Metal piping may not have that much give.
