Keep in mind that the seat width reduces it's width as it extends toward the base of the back to about 12". Width of the back at its peak is about 17.5"

Answer:	To be honest, I put the small round felt pads on the bottom of ours before we even used them. So I guess that they could possibly scratch if precaution is not taken. With the felt pads, we have had no scratches what so ever.

Answer:	The chair base is made out of strong metal, so my opinion would be that with a little ingenuity someone could mount wheels/casters to this chair. However, since this chair is taller than wide, if it were on wheels, it would constantly tip over when getting on or off the chair. The base is just not wide enough diameter to create a stable wheeled platform.
