| Answer: | It is NOT pine, which is a soft wood. It is some kind of hardwood for the frame and legs and, I think, pine (not plywood as rep said) for the slats. It is finished to a bit like varnished pine or like a light golden oak. They've used some small pieces of hardwood compressed and glued, so that's what the erratic or zigzag colorations are. That saved those small pieces from a landfill somewhere, and that's a good thing. |

The metal legs in the middle of the bed snapped off at the welds, the metal rail then bent, the bed collapsed in the middle, the broken metal supports dug holes in my newly finished hardwood floor. This was 2 months after purchase. Amazon wouldn't extend return. Zinus would not issue refund. Zinus would only send me exact same bed as replacement. I'm out the $100 I paid for assembly, plus my hardwood floor is wrecked. |

| Answer: | Contrary to some the primary reason for fabricating larger panels of solid wood by utilizing the “butcher block” method of gluing smaller pieces together, especially when working with woods such as pine provides protection from warping. That being said, a cross section of the wider panels would reveal the direction of the grain of each block opposite that of the adjoining blocks, especially quarter sawn. This process is far more labor intensive, by man or machine, than just joining long lengths or wider panels. | Answer: | It has to be lengthwise. It's two sets of slats and the support beam needs to be down the middle. IMO I don't recommend these at all. Better off with a cheaper brand because these aren't like the better quality ones they used to sell. These tend to slide all around, slats falling partially down causing support issues. |
