Answer:	There is a fair amount of assembly required. You will need amble space to assemble this cabinet (large parts laid out on the floor and a working assembly area). The instructions are very clear and very easy to follow. There are a number of steps involved, so make sure that you have the space to work that will not have interference in case you need to take a break.
Question:	Can these be retrofitted on an old dresser that did not originally come with drawer slides
Answer:	If you have the required clearance, which I believe to be 1/4 inch on each side. Most dresser drawers don't have a tight fit on the vertical but you may want to check. After confirming the clearances I would recommend these slides with 5 stars.

Answer:	If I understand your question, then yes. There are 4 pieces, 2 that screw onto the cabinet and 2 that screw onto the drawer. They are the "track."

Answer:	I needed 12 but only brought one just to see if it would work. As it turns out I had the same problem. I needed to cut a little more than you but decided against it since it I wasn't sure how it would affect it. Been looking around unsuccessfully for a shorter one.

Answer:	Measure the depth of the cabinet, measure the depth of the drawer. The difference will tell you how close the drawer is to the back of the cabinet. The back end of the these drawer slide must be supported. This is done with "drawer slide brackets". They are between 2 and 3 inches long. The drawer slide length is usually longer than the drawer and with the "Drawer slide Bracket" it must reach the back of the cabinet. I have never installed these drawer slides without the Drawer slide Brackets. Most cabinets are 24" kitchen base cabinets, or 21" vanity cabinets, ore 18" vanity cabinets, or custom made cabinets of varying depth dimensions. Also, nobody has mentioned that drawer side to side measurement must be exactly 1" smaller that the face frame hole it passes through. Good Luck.
