Then, we moved it to the bathroom and took her there every other hour to see if she would pee. After a while, she knew when to go and would tell us. Eventually she started going on her own. After a couple of months, we got this IKEA seat and a step stool and transitioned her to use the real toilet. Every child is different but this is how we did it and it worked really well for us. One thing to remember is that if you skip the portable potty you still need to get a step stool for him and have to be extra careful he doesn't try to get up by himself. Hope this helps!
