Answer:	Hi Susie in SF, yes they have a flat bottom, I've just examined mine, and it will stand up on the floor by itself. They are a bit small, about the size of a soup can. There's also a small arm coming out the top, about 1" long by 1/2" where the unit fixes to the wall, I guess it will look ok if you turn it around to face the wall. The metal casing is very well made, unlike other toilet brush holders made of sheet metal, so I expect this will last. THere's a glass liner which goes into the metal tube, so that can be cleaned easily. They look pretty smart!. dave.
