Answer:	No, because the bottom end of the vertical post is not threaded. It is held in place with a set screw from the side. Cut that end of the vertical to set your height with no problem.

It was not relevant in my situation as one long side of my tub is flush with the wall and I used an extra long shower curtain with about 32 shower curtain rings and arranged the curtain gap opposite the wall.
