Works great and basically use it as a balance point as we both like to move around on the plate, facing the front and also right and left. You do not really need it but if sure make it more comfortable to have it as a balance point if you want to move around on the plate while it is running. Typically use in manual with all functions running at the same time and work up to top speed rather quickly. Just resting a finger on it helps with any fear of falling off it.
