This listing shows the d-alpa tocopherol (Vitamin E), after the natural orange flavor. As such it's quantity is minimal as flavors are normally a very small amount of the total formula. Therefore, the purified arctic cod liver oil is overwhelmingly the near total constituent of the formula. As a former pharmaceutical executive of manufacturing of final pharmaceutical products, I believe I have the credentials to provide this opinion. Flavors, vitamins and preservatives normally contribute a very small percentage of the final product. Hope this helps! |

A most and adding more of it than even is naturally found in Cod Liver Oil is good news for me. Maybe that's why the company chose to add. Some companies add the retinyl; others do not. NOW brand has the same two vitamins in the same form, added. |

| Answer: | Hello, Surprisingly Cod Liver oil is not a reliable source of naturally occurring vitamin D or A. The reason consumers believe that it is, is because most cod liver oils sold are not made from cod but instead pollock or haddock. Almost all cod liver oil products on the market are supplemented with added vitamin A or D (natural or synthetic) because many so-called cod liver oil products are not made from cod! Many brands use fish body oil (from species such as pollock or haddock) as a less expensive source of oil, and then add vitamin A and D to mimic cod liver oil. This practice is allowed because the international production of cod liver oil is regulated by only one rule—the final product must match the specific EPA ratio (EPA to DHA) found in cod liver oil. These practices have never been applicable to the Nordic Naturals brand. We’ve always used 100% wild Arctic cod in our CLO formulas, which consequently have low, healthy levels of naturally occurring, fat-soluble vitamin A and almost zero D. We have never used fish body oils or any synthetic additives of any kind in our CLO. This is why you will not see vitamin D listed on our labels as the naturally occurring amount is negligible. The average is 0 (zero) IU's. The naturally occurring vitamin A is also negligible but more measurable which is listed as mcg on the label. The only other major difference is that the Arctic cod liver oil is made from cod and the Ultimate Omega liquid is made with anchovies/sardines.
